We see that the boy mayor of Minneapolis has been booed off the stage. Jacob Frey was elected two years ago on promises to fix the police. That was so two years ago. Not Good Enough Any More.
Mayor Frey retreated on Saturday [06-06-2020] through a sea of protesters yelling, “Go home, Jacob, go home!” and “Shame! Shame!” after he refused to commit to defunding the Police Department. — the New York Times reports.
Memorial to police killed in line of duty on Madison’s Capitol grounds
Madison’s mayor wants to avoid that fate. That is why she took the bleach bit to a video praising the police, intended for their eyes only. Wanted to forestall their vote of no confidence.
Madison city government is inching ever closer to defunding the police. That and other “demands” of the George Floyd anarchists is actually on the agenda of the city’s Public Safety Review Committee at 5 p.m. this Wednesday, June 10. (The committee is advisory to the Common Council.) From that agenda:
- Defund Police — seize and abolish police force powers and acknowledge safety structures that are pro-Black, pro-woman and girls, pro-youth, pro-LGBTQI, pro-disabled, pro-immigrant, and refugee community.
- Invest in life-affirming infrastructure for Black people. Fund pro-Black and anti-oppression community-led projects and services.
- Free all incarcerated people and stop all projects to rebuild or renew the jail.
- Drop all charges against people, including protesters and freedomfighters.
- Suspend all probation holds.
“Stop murdering black people, and your glass will be safe,” Monica Adams, co-executive director for Freedom Inc.
The race-based Progressive Dane agenda

Who chairs said Public Safety Review Committee? Brenda Konkel, the former alder who was so anti-cop the police union put up billboards urging her defeat for re-election several years ago. She chairs Progressive Dane, whose platform is Cops out of Schools and Derail the Jail. Appointed by Mayor Satya Rhodes Conway, also Progressive Dane. As are two more members of Konkel’s committee: Alds. Patrick Heck and Christian Albouras.
But wait, there’s more! Also on the committee agenda: “Answers to questions raised from Alder Kemble (Progressive Dane) and others in their letter to the chief.” Death by a thousand paper cuts.
A riot of identity politics
Greased for likely passage is another agenda item: MPD Civilian Oversight Board. (The proposal in full.) Even though Madison already has a Police & Fire Commission. Which civilians would oversee the police?
African-American, Asian, Latino, Native American and LGBTQ communities as well as a diversity of ages, socio-economic status, work experiences, gender, geographic residence, and organizations in the fields of mental health, youth advocacy and AODA, and including individuals with arrest or conviction records. A majority of the members of the board shall be nominated by a designated set of community-based organizations that have an interest in civil rights, immigrant rights, disability rights/mental health, racial equity, and social justice, and that also have an interest in the safety of the city.
They will decide membership on police oversight committee
Expect the approved “community-based orgs” allowed to vet the appointees to include Freedom Inc., Urban Triage, and the Party of Socialism and Liberation — leaders of last week’s protests and condoners of the riots.
Appoint the cop haters
Additionally, 25% to 40% of the Board shall be composed of members with lived experience with homelessness, mental health, substance abuse and/or arrest or conviction records. The composition of the Board shall be run through the City’s Racial Equity and Social Justice Initiative process to ensure equity and inclusion.
Blaska’s Bottom Line: In other words, no Republicans.

Please allow me to revise and extend my comment.
Abolish the police? Yep, that’s exactly what Lefties want to do. You can’t make this stuff up. It goes way beyond parody. Just two weeks ago, failed bankrupt Democrat-run states were warning that unless we bailed them out. they’d have to lay off law enforcement personnel, … and you certainly wouldn’t want to do that, would you? Now, Democrats deliberately plan to defund police departments and give that money to some black communities for “social justice” and “race reparations”. It just goes to show you that there IS some consistency in Lefty’s Little La-La bubble word, … they’re consistently wrong.
Yes, there’s some bad cops, just as there are some bad pastors, teachers, doctors, accountants and clerks. To paint with a brush any broader than that, and to depict an entire profession as systemically corrupt, is to deny the primacy of the individual moral agency that is central to our human condition.
Full disclosure: I’ve a friend who was a MPD patrol cop. He told me that he couldn’t count how many illegal guns he took off the street, how many wanted suspects he arrested on warrants, how much dope he kept from poisoning the youths in the area, or how many other crimes he prevented by aggressive patrolling. He was doing nothing more than chasing the criminals away, and doing his job. It sent a message to criminals that the police were awake and watching the neighborhood. He was protecting and serving the other black residents from the black predators who intended to victimize them.
Was he “profiling”? You bet your sweet bippy he was.
Conscious, methodical, and very logical profiling, AKA: good community policing. Did he ever stop a black person who was innocent of any crime ? Yes, he did, but he always had a legitimate reason for when he did it, a traffic or vehicle equipment violation committed by the driver. It’s called “probable cause”, which he would need in order to justify his arrest for the drive-by-shooting he just stopped, the guns and drugs he took off the street, the stolen car he prevented, and all the other crimes he stopped because he gave a damn about the citizens he was protecting and serving.
We’ve all heard during anti-police protests how blacks are stopped more often than white people. Likely true, since many black people live in predominantly black areas in cities across the country, which means more blacks will be stopped in those areas. But, one can’t point out logic when emotions are running high. Statistically there’s also more white cops than black cops. Which logically means more black citizen/white officer interactions. It’s simple mathematics.
What isn’t accounted for are crime statistics; blacks only make up 13% of the population, but are responsible for 86% of all violent crime. But then again, one could write that fact off as “institutionalized” or “systemic” criminal activity of the black community.
And what’s been the Makistani Left’s answer to this blatant disparity?, … “Let’s not arrest or punish black perps anymore. That’ll even out those stats.”
How’s that been working out? Democrats demonizing and denouncing all police officers hurt the very communities they say they’re trying to protect. When you talk to regular, normal law-abiding citizens in those troubled communities, they say they want MORE uniformed police presence, not less.

Here is an idea. Let’s not have any, as in zikch,nada, response and presence, regardless of what has or is occurring, in two neighborhoods. Say, the Villas and Allied Drive. Just as an experiment for 6 months. If the Utopia liberal dream occurs then do it for the rest of the city. Most likely, after 2 weeks Villas neighborhood will be demanding the experiment end. That if there still alive and such.

If you are going to defund the police, take all of the warning labels off everything and just kind of let it work itself out. However, every one in authority should take full responsibility for the results. Mayor, City Council, and any Committee that sets up this disaster.

My understanding of defunding the police is shifting resources to social services, and a host of other programs designed to give disadvantaged black folk a leg up and as compensation for an inherently unfair system.
Sounds reasonable but in reality it is code for more tax money to be diverted into the black community because so many of them are unable to self-regulate on multiple levels. Unless the black community and black leaders are willing to prioritize the scorching out of wedlock birthrate and fatherless problem no amount of resources will make a difference. The best intentioned government services/programs cannot replace what a decent two parent nuclear family provides no matter what lefty grifters tell you. History proves this.
Seems to be little interest in that conversation however. Now why is that?
