This blog is a sticky mess

not of pottage but odds & ends.

Showers again today in southern Wisconsin. Hope they continue in Milwaukee’s ballpark. Andrew Vaughn knows how to take a Gatorade shower, cups and all. Well deserved after clubbing that grand slam home run to put the Brewers up 9 to 3 over the Chicago Cubs Tuesday. Vaughn is a run producer: 21 RBIs in 15 games since joining the Brewers on July 7. Wasn’t good enough to play on the American League’s worst team, the White Sox. Maybe it’s the Milwaukee beer. FB friend Rick Braun says Rhys Hoskins is reading about Wally Pipp. (Baseball fans will get the reference.)

The Brewers’ RBI machine is in his cups!

 Can’t they all get along?

“Concern grows over Madison Civil Rights Department complaints,” The Capital Times reports. If there is going to be discord in government it’s going to bubble up in civil rights bureaucracy, doesn’t it seem! Is it the type of people who go into that work? Are they disputatious by nature? Grievance sponges easily triggered?

Maybe Republicans had to pass the Big Beautiful Bill before we found out what was in it. Appears there will be tax deductions for automobile loans (if the vehicle is made in America). Democrats say we’re all going to die from the BBB but at least we’ll have our car loans paid off.

Is the legacy media sitting on the Comey-Brennan-Clapper-McCabe conspiracy to frame Donald Trump the same way they did Hunter’s laptop? Jonathan Turley makes the case.

Scott Walker teased about running for governor again. Once you’ve been bit … But he’s not going to walk away from the $840,521 he makes as president of Young Americans for Freedom. WI governor gets $165,568. Which is way underpaid. (I know, they get a nice house on the lake but …) New York pays the most: $250,000; Maine pays the least: $70,000. (Source here)

Many of us remember when Jeff Waksman was that Young Republican whiz kid at UW-Madison. Now he is Acting Assistant Secretary of the Army for Installations, Energy and Environment. Spoke to the National Press Club on [07-23-25] to discuss nuclear power.

We agree with Jonah Goldberg that “climate change is real and a problem — even if … it is also overhyped and used to justify a political and economic agenda that is not entirely about dealing with the problem.” Although we would say climate change is less of a “problem” and more of an “issue.” A feature more than a bug.

Goldberg cites the British medical journal Lancet that cold weather kills 8.3 times more people in Europe than hot. “It’s not unreasonable to assume that climate change could save more lives than it costs,” he concludes

 The last place they look

Democrats keep talking about a way forward. They know it’s out there. They just can’t find it.

Democrats’ cultural agenda is still unaltered and too radical. … What issue have Democrats moderated on since the election? Immigration? Trans issues? Crime? Climate change? Answer: none of the above. Democrats may have put their most distasteful rhetoric and ideas on ice, but with the exception of a few party renegades, they haven’t really cast any votes that show cultural adaptation or offered any truly moderate approaches on social issues. — John Halpin, The Liberal Patriot

Blaska’s Bottom Line: The Allies did not feed the people of Berlin and Tokyo during WW2 until Hitler was dead and Hiroshima, Nagasaki, and Dresden were obliterated — “innocent” lives and all. The Allies could not countenance a bit of Hitler or some Tojo. Hamas — no one else — is starving Gaza.

Is Vaughn the Brewers’ Hurricane Hazle?

Dem’s do have an agenda, but nobody listens. Everything is drowned out by Dementia Don and his merry band of spineless sheep. In 6 months the GOP will have their nuts pinched because of your BBB cuts to healthcare, food assistance, etc. Biden got drug prices down, capped insulin, now a 15% tariff on ALL drugs coming from the EU. No police funding for blue states? And you claim to be the law-and-order party? Where are the townhalls? GOP is in hiding. Come out and face your voters COWARDS.

Your poor numbers are no mirage. You know Democrats alert their cadres to shout down congress members.

Liesack’s record is impressive: wrong on EVERY issue. Amazing!
