Sorry to ruin your Christmas but …
“Kamala Cat Lady” yard signs are still stuck in the permafrost of Madison WI this cold winter’s day (in a deep and dark December). So why is Blaska nattering about candidates, campaigns, and elections?! Kick the habit!
But an election looms on April 1 that will determine whether the state supreme court remains 4 to 3 progressive or switches back to conservative, as it was before Janet (spell it with us) Protasiecwicz was elected on a nakedly partisan agenda to enshrine abortion, derail Act 10, and gerrymander Wisconsin blue. Fortunately, we have an excellent candidate in Brad Schimel, former WI attorney general. Currently a circuit judge in Waukesha County.
→ We pause here to remember Dave Prosser, a true gentleman. A quiet force for decency. RIP, Justice Prosser.
If April 1, 2025 seems a leap into infinity and beyond, consider that the deadline to file nomination papers is 5 p.m Tuesday, January 7. One month from the here and now.
Vote out Woke
On the same, officially nonpartisan (wink, wink) statewide ballot looms the superintendent of public instruction, held by Doctor Jill Underly. Sure as teachers no longer get little green apples on their desks, the WI Democrat(ic) Party has endorsed Doctor Jill for re-election. (Remind anyone of Jill Biden?)
Her Department of Public Instruction has been pumping critical race theory into our K-12 schools on the QT. (“DPI teaches race and disproportionality”) Jill Underhandedly declared what amounts to a Day of Mourning when a jury acquitted Kyle Rittenhouse for defending himself and Kenosha against the Woke mob that torched the city on behalf of a criminal.
Who’s out there? We’re going to throw a little long and suggest Scarlett Johnson, a parental rights advocate out of Mequon/Thiensville. She’s Moms for Liberty, which fights critical race theory and transgender advocacy in our K-12 schools. She’s good on talk radio. We got to think she would reverse the dumbing down of school performance standards under Underly. Bonus: no doctorate in education!
Common sense in Madison WI?
The City of Madison will elect alders — all 20. How about some help for alders Ike Knox and Barbara Harrington-McKinney? Someone who pledges to zero out the Police Civilian Oversight Board and the Independent Police Monitor! Approve cop body-worn cameras. A winning message!
Madison will elect three of the seven school board members, seats currently held by Laura Simkin (seat 3), Ali Muldrow (seat 4), and Nichelle Nichols (seat 5). Uniquely in the entire state, candidates run district wide but must specify which seat. Three-year terms, also an oddity.
We’ve been trying to get former Madison mayor, bike nut, and unsuccessful deer stalker Dave Cieslewicz to run. Someone who has accomplished something great in life and isn’t hostage to DEI’s cult of victimology. Repeal Jennifer Cheatham’s behavior education plan and put teachers back in control of their classrooms. Return school resource police officers. Another winning message!

For governor in ’26?
Mr. Dane County Republican, Roger Stauter, asked the Head Groundskeeper for Republican names who might run for governor two years hence. As if inspired by Providence, the name of Samantha Kerkman sprung to mind. The lady is county executive of once-blue, populous, and growing Kenosha county. Former Republican state legislator, camera friendly, age 50.
Blaska’s Bottom Line: Please, no more “out of state” millionaires! Wisconsin wants authenticity, their votes can’t be bought. Republicans can make up for spurning Becky Kleefisch (who, apparently, is not interested in trying again) and elect our first female governor — a Republican! We’re guessing Tony Evers, Mr. Excitement, won’t seek a third four-year term.
Candidates have been able to circulate nomination papers for the April election since Sunday 12-01-24. The clock is Tik-Tokking.

You guys should have dump pick your candidates. He’s having such good luck with the grifters and drunks he has put forward so far.
Unless Brad, suddenly self identifies as xx , he will lose in a landslide
?
I question your question?
Will Mandela (I need a private limousine driver for all my needs) Barnes offer his name again?
We can always hope.

Great idea Blaska! Even though Dave Cieslewicz and I disagree on some things, if I actually lived in Madison School district I’d vote for Dave Cieslewicz for school board.
“Even though Dave Cieslewicz and I disagree on some things”
Heh! Manfully conceded.
“I’d vote for Dave Cieslewicz for school board.”
Same here; all else aside, he’s made it abundantly clear that he believes the direction of MMSD is locked in a nose-dive.
The Gotch
Sauk Prairie school district superintendent Jeff Wagner announces he’s running for WI superintendent of public instruction. Hold your applause. He’s a Democrat and is endorsed by political action committee of the statewide teachers union. (More here.)
Rest assured you’ll still be seeing those Kamala yard signs when the permafrost melts in spring. It’s a matter of honor with Madison progressives to flaunt their progressive credentials (are there any other kind?) as long as humanly possible. Heck, every once in a while I still see the odd Russ Feingold bumper sticker on cars (usually antiquated Volvo station wagons) around town.
Why so twisted about who runs the schools? tRump has picked Linda McMahon as head of the Dept of Education. No education, no experience and tangled up in a sex scandal. No problem there; why here? GABLEMAN FOR GOVENOR!!!!!
