The Tragedy of Black education

This article by Walter Williams in the Daily Signal is dated 12-02-20, the day professor Williams died after teaching a class at George Mason University.

In 13 of Baltimore’s 39 high schools, not a single student scored proficient in math. In five Baltimore City high schools, not a single student scored proficient in math or reading. Despite these academic deficiencies, about 70% of the students graduate and are conferred a high school diploma. …

In two [Milwaukee] high schools, only one student tested proficient in math and none are proficient in English. Yet, the schools spent a full week learning about “systemic racism” and “Black Lives Matter activism.” …

I wonder when the black community will demand an end to an educational environment that condemns so many youngsters to mediocrity.

The school climate, seldom discussed, plays a very important role in education. Aside from violence, there are many instances of outright disrespect for teachers. First- and second-graders telling teachers to “Shut the f— up” and calling teachers “b—h.”

Years ago, much of the behavior of young people that we see today would have never been tolerated.  … Today, unfortunately, we have replaced practices that worked with practices that sound good and caring. And we are witnessing the results.

If a white person objects to consigning kids of color to awful life outcomes by deprivation of a decent education, s/he is excoriated as racist. If a person of color does so, s/he is attacked as a Tom or Oreo. The (white) Prog/Libs have rigged the game to be sure their plantation keeps well stocked with aggrieved victims

In Milwaukee, at least, Wisconsin state government ensures that black and Hispanic families have a real choice to bolt from MPS and go, for example, to the Jesuit-run Cristo Rey High School. Then, at least the child has a fighting chance for upward mobility.

The rewards of a good education will only come to those individuals who VALUE education. It’s the old “leading a horse …” thing. You can supply all the water that you want, but first you need a thirsty horse. The key is demonstrating the relevance of subject matter to their lives. Drill a kid in “systemic racism studies”, and they will gladly be “triggered” by “microaggressions’ (drawing welcomed attention to themselves), and “cancelling” people they don’t like. But the same child makes no connection between learning math and going to the grocery store.

For most minority kids, education is perhaps the only chance they have to escape the proglibocrat plantation porch, poverty and generational dependence. That’s why it’s so despicable for DemonRats denying an equal opportunity education for minoroties. They fight tooth and nail against any school choice, charter schools and STEM academies.

Democrats tried denying minority students equal education before. Gov. George Wallace and his fire hoses, Bull Connor and his police dogs and Lester “Ax Handle” Maddox and his thugbuggerists, … “good” Demorats all, … stood in the schoolhouse doorways blocking the entrance. Today, the same racist Democrats and their willing accomplices in the teacher’s unions are standing in the same school doorways, only this time they’re denying minority sstudents a chance to exit toward an equal education opportunity.

I’m pleased you’ve repeated it………..though I doubt it will make any difference to the Cheatham acolytes in Madison.

Would it be too harsh to suggest that we go back to segregated schools for a few years? With all black student bodies, teachers and administrators on the one hand, and all white schools on the other, we could then see if there is any correlation between races and success rates. Of course, applying “white” standards of competence in determining success is the real problem, isn’t it? If the black community is satisfied with the results (or lack thereof), I’m OK with that. But then they will need to stop complaining.

A-P-of-One: It appears that several college campuses (and their attendant minorities) espouse that same concept. Yer correct: “Of course, applying “white” standards of competence in determining success is the real problem, isn’t it? If the black community is satisfied with the results (or lack thereof), I’m OK with that. But then they will need to stop complaining.”

Seems there’s no easy way, other than actually providing teaching (not victim-hood) from teachers AND students learning from their teachers, instead of SJWS & BLM. SMH.

[Not about race however, more about culture and family structure.]

The time has come to return to *separate but equal* in Lefty locales where the big mouth bully SJWs are the most fervent but have it be voluntary meaning that black kids can attend the all white schools but no white kids allowed in the all black schools.
What a revealing five year experiment that would be.
