Mainstream news media pivots from Russian collusion to ‘Trump is a racist’

Advocates and the media deemed Mr. Trump’s non-racial denunciation of Baltimore’s leadership racist. Never mind that the victims of the city’s almost daily drive-by shootings are black. Race shields minority politicians from criticism. — Heather Mac Donald

It’s the page one story in today’s (08-19-19) New York Times:

“What the reactionary politics of 2019
owe to the politics of slavery.”

“America holds onto an undemocratic assumption from its founding: that some people deserve more power than others.”

Get used to it. America’s newspaper of record has pivoted from Trump colluded with Russia to Trump is a Racist who, in any case, must be denounced, delegitimized, and defeated.

A newsroom revolt over an unintentionally pro-Trump headline after the El Paso mass shootings brought the Times’ shift in tactics out into the open. The rest of the liberal-progressive-socialist media is clambering on board. The offending headline, “Trump urges unity vs. racism,” was quickly scrapped for wording more hostile to the President.

To quell its restive scribblers, Times editor Dean Baquet did some fancy footwork. According to a leaked transcript:

This is a really hard story … it went from being a story about whether the Trump campaign had colluded with Russia and obstruction of justice to being a more head-on story about the president’s character. We built our newsroom to cover one story, and we did it truly well. Now we have to regroup, and shift resources and emphasis to take on a different story. … It is a story that requires deep investigation into people who peddle hatred, but it is also a story that requires imaginative use of all our muscles to write about race and class in a deeper way than we have in years….

‘That “one story” was Russian collusion.

Holy shit!

The day Bob Mueller walked off that witness stand    Our readers who want Donald Trump to go away suddenly thought, “Holy shit, Bob Mueller is not going to do it.”

Byron York writes in the Washington Examiner:

Baquet used the gentlest terms possible — “the story changed” — but the fact is, the conspiracy-coordination allegation the Times had devoted itself to pursuing turned out to be false. Beyond that, Democrats on Capitol Hill struggled to press an obstruction case against the president. The Trump-Russia hole came up dry.

One Times staffer captured the consensus of the newsroom this way: “I just feel like racism is in everything. It should be considered in our science reporting, in our culture reporting, in our national reporting.”

Blaska has skin in this game (offensively white though that skin be). He was labeled a white supremacist for demanding a return to discipline in the classroom because “everybody knows” that:

  1. that minority race students act out disproportionately (but only because of 400 years of oppression) or if they don’t it’s because
  2. racist teachers, police and society unfairly single them out while ignoring white kids brawling in the cafeteria and shooting up the school bus. Really!

If you can hear the dog whistle …

… you’re the dog! When Elizabeth Warren can mischaracterize Michael Brown’s shooting in Ferguson MO as “murder” …

The essential Heather Mac Donald in the Wall Street Journal, offers this corrective:

Trump isn’t the one dividing us by race.

Comment BlackMr. Trump rarely uses racial categories in his speech or his tweets. It is the media and Democratic leaders who routinely characterize individuals and groups by race and issue race-based denunciations of large parts of the American polity.

Some examples: “As race dominates the political conversation, 10 white Democratic candidates will take the stage” (the Washington Post); Mr. Trump’s rally audiences are “overwhelmingly white” (multiple sources); your son’s “whiteness is what protects him from not [sic] being shot” by the police ( Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand );

Identity politics, now a driving force in the Democratic Party, celebrates the racial and ethnic identities of designated victim groups while consigning whites — especially heterosexual white men — to scapegoat status.

More Heather Mac Donald:

Susan Rice, President Obama’s national security adviser, recently denounced Mr. Trump’s “almost daily attacks on black and brown people.” But … Trump’s attacks on his fellow 2016 candidates — and on more-recent adversaries as homogeneous as Robert Mueller, Rep. Adam Schiff, Joe Biden and Ms. Warren — were as nasty as anything he’s directed at Rep. Elijah Cummings or Rep. Ilhan Omar.

Blaska’s Bottom LineThe truth is, Donald Trump is a mean-spirited but equal opportunity insult artist — Don Rickles without the punch line. Waiting for that first Democrat to declare, “Enough of the race-baiting. It’s time to judge people by their actions.”

    In other words…LIE!

The NYT is a joke, and not a funny ha-ha one.

And Dean Baquet, where have I heard that name before?

OH YEAH, in that hilariously devastating beatdown (a MUST read!) provided by former employee Michael Cieply mere days (11/10/2016) after Hillarity was supposed to have won in a landslide of epic proportions, and as Lefty Inc was gearing up for a non-stop, never-ending, full-throated, freaking out, melt-down.

Lefty continually forgets, to their eternal peril, that REALITY_BATS_LAST!

An integrity acknowledging editorial dynamic? The NYT don’t need no such a thing; they’re News Makers!

To wit: “We were occasionally asked to map a narrative for our various beats a year in advance, square the plan with editors, then generate stories that fit the pre-designated line.”

And editors in a Page One meeting hubristically slobbering: “We Set The Agenda For The Country In That Room.”

Small wonder the red ink hemorrhaging Gray Lady awaits transfer to an Alzheimers unit.

Gotch, Ha! Once again, ya provide a thrill. I had missed that article! To wit: ““We’ve got to do a much better job of being on the road, out in the country, talking to different kinds of people than we talk to — especially if you happen to be a New York-based news organization — and remind ourselves that New York is not the real world,” Baquet said.” As you made clear, they have learned NOTHING. Lotsa “spittle-fleckin” in the future as they try to hold on to relevance. I’m still chucklin’…..

You are not going to hear such a phrase coming from the lips of a Democrat in our lifetime, they have way too much political investment in their racist mantra to give it up. They will continue to divide people in their efforts to acquire political power until people are killing each other and then they’ll blame the Conservative politicians for the blood shed, oh yeah, they’re already doing that.

The political left is spending their political clout like ship full of drunken sailors that haven’t been to port in a year. Their constituents are too damn ignorant and lazy to figure out that they’re being taken for a ride on the Constitution busting train that will strip them of their rights.

It’s been said here before and there is real truth in the statement; the political left IS the very evil that they profess to be against. I think the United States is politically and socially irretrievably broken.

I agree except for the last line. It is exactly what a NYT TDS sufferer would say. If you live in a Blue Bubble the anxiety is everywhere but get out of the bubble and you’ll realize that life is good and there is nothing new under the sun.

David, True Dat! Racism trumps all, no pun intended. Seems like eye sight is the bigger issue: folks cannot/ will not read available facts/stats. In the main, Black-on-Black crime tops all for being “unseen” and un-noticed. Decades now.

Further, How can THAT be laid on ONE person/party? Can’t be -unless ya just don’t read local, regional or national news. Or you have an agenda in mind, like Al Sharpton’s & ilk over-the-top perspective, the “Reparations” idea and the countless other Dem/dumb MAGICAL solutions. How can a huge problem be solved that is ID’d 180 degrees from the reality? Guess divisiveness sells more papers, solutions be damned….

Yet reasonable and caring folks ARE scapegoats one way or t’other in this blame race. Blame fixes nuthin’. Whereas a real family, a supportive family, a family that teaches responsibility and encourages personal growth, would overcome this. Might take some time but this dilemma took some time. But the folks who can help the most? Not at all interested. Not attractive to newspapers and their spawn who sell their souls by the number of resultant “clicks”…

Actually, the first sentence quoted by our gracious host, “America holds on to an undemocratic assumption…..” (etc.) is dead-nuts correct as I maintain elsewhere.

    The term here is “projection.”
