Why Mark Pocan, D-Madison, voted against the debt limit deal
“Forget the debt ceiling. The Biden-McCarthy compromise is a big deal because it is a spending compromise. An important provision of the deal is that if, by the end of the year, the House and Senate haven’t passed 12 appropriations bills (the long-forgotten way budgeting is supposed to work), all discretionary spending would become subject to an automatic 1% cut. This is what is known as a “sequester.” A sequester is to Democrats what garlic is to vampires. …
“The truth today is this: The modern Democratic Party — the party of Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and the House Squad — won’t cut or slow spending for any existing federal program, ever. Now, Mr. McCarthy’s negotiators have managed to create a wedge against the left’s massive opposition to spending reforms.”

11 killed, 46 wounded Memorial Day in Chicago
Deadliest Memorial Day weekend there in eight years.
It is to laugh
“Clarence Thomas, resign or be impeached”
Like Kevin McCarthy’s House of Reps is going to impeach Justice Thomas! (!!!) 😛

Question of the Day
What ‘Deep State’?
Rachael Rollins, the US attorney for Massachusetts, leaked sensitive Justice Department information to a journalist in an effort to influence a local election, lied to investigators and improperly attended a fundraiser with Jill Biden, according to two critical federal reports released Wednesday. (More here.)
How can anyone take them seriously?
Charles C.W. Cooke asks at National Review.
“Rachel Maddow made a career out of spreading lunatic conspiracy theories on MSNBC, as did Chris Hayes and Nicolle Wallace (who is still, today, rejecting all evidence that contradicts her fever dream). Adam Schiff lied relentlessly from his official perch on the United States House Committee on Foreign Affairs, and is now gearing up to run for the Senate.”

Crime is on the ballot
‘Where’s Nancy?‘ We are guessing that even Chesa Boudin, the soft-on-crime district attorney that San Francisco voters recalled from office — would have prosecuted the Election Denying nutcase who attacked Nancy Pelosi’s husband. In his home! In the middle of … Continue reading
San Francisco says NO to ‘restorative justice’
When will Madison get restored! Last we checked, John Nichols has not been run out of Mayberry for hawking the progressive snake oil of “restorative justice.” Neither has he folded his tent. “Restorative justice” is the hair of the dog … Continue reading
San Francisco was a wake-up call for the Woke folk
The canary in the coal mine just keeled over! The first duty of government is to protect its citizens. Was the shocking failure to do so in Uvalde TX fallout from the nation’s war on cops? The Federalist poses this unique … Continue reading
Will another soft-on-crime D.A. go down?
Won’t read this in The Nation! America is emerging from the mythology of Hands Up, Don’t Shoot, the urban myth debunked when petty criminal Michael Brown was found to have attacked the police officer eight years ago in Ferguson MO. … Continue reading
Madison brawlers are ‘expressing themselves’
‘… So they act out.’ And then there was one. The only candidate left standing to be the City of Madison’s first independent police monitor is more Woke than the taste tester at Maxwell House. A second finalist dropped out, … Continue reading
Progressives blamed the gun, now they blame the car
The mother of all SUVs! Defendants in criminal trials are permitted to offer alternative theories to the crime. Maybe the public defenders for Darrell Brooks will blame Elon Musk and his self-driving software for the carnage in Waukesha. For awhile, … Continue reading
