‘Victimhood is not liberation’

Guilty white progressives teach blame, not phonics.

Monday, January 19, we honor America’s historic struggle for civil rights and human dignity. We do so in the name of Martin Luther King Jr. Blaska admires the guy for his courage as much as for his noble cause. (Great wordsmith, too!) History records many allies — some white, like Wisconsin’s own Col. Hans Christian Heg, the Civil War abolitionist. But all the BLM mob knew or cared was that he was a white male, likely cis-gendered.

The civil rights movement, as the Rev. King knew it, has been decapitated like Heg’s statue. Scam artists like Al Sharpton and Robin DiAngelo hijacked the righteous cause to milk their guilty white marks for Benjamins and ratings. Because the actual toxin is almost extirpated, the supposed racism whitey suffers, they hold, is unconscious — the legacy of 1619, found in the unlikeliest places, even a 42-ton glacial boulder!

Behavior, not race?

Someone tell the UniParty Capital Times that Bull Connors isn’t our sheriff. The voice of progressivism could not report the arrest of two influential and prosperous black women without sounding the klaxon of racism. Forty (40) percent of people booked on disorderly conduct in the county jail are black, the progressive outlet scolded, disproportionate to their population. The scurrilous implication being that Madison police are racist. In a metro area with a disproportionate (we can use that word, too!) number of minority-race police, district attorneys, alders, supervisors, legislators, and school superintendents? After 60 years of civil rights legislation, affirmative action (voluntary or not), and countless sensitivity seminars?

Critical race theory is still taught at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where a sociology class concluded that Madison parents are practicing White Flight! “White students more likely to exit Madison schools via open enrollment,” The Capital Times lamented. The course title gives away the game: “Research to Enhance Equity in Education.” (How about enhancing, instead, READING!) The class found:

Nearly 1,600 middle and high school students open enrolled out of Madison schools into another public school district over the last three years — with white families being the most likely to leave. … About 900 white students enrolled out of Madison middle and high schools over a three-year period, compared to just under 200 Black students.

Updated to show district-wide demographics from Nat’l Center for Educational Statistics

Maybe because the Madison school district is 71% white and only 7% black? The study itself reports that 56% of students opting out of Madison public schools were white, 12% were black, whichmeans black families are disproportionately (AGAIN!) fleeing Madison schools for a better education in surrounding school districts. Hispanic families, too, are opting out at a rate nearly double their 9% share of the population. That’s good news, people! They’re fleeing a district that blames academic failure on racism.

Quit whining

No one is hiring your illiterate kid’s dumb ass or posting his bail, no matter race. Teachers can teach but only students themselves can learn. Progressives like Ali, Brandi, and Shadayra need new alibis for the failure of progressivism. Madison should listen instead to the likes of Robert L. Woodson:

Black America must declare a one-year moratorium on whining about racism. Not because racism has disappeared, and not to soothe the sensitivities of white America — but because grievance has become a shield protecting predators within our own communities. Accusations of racism are routinely weaponized to silence accountability, excuse corruption, and reward moral cowardice. …

Robert L Woodson

The civil rights movement dismantled segregation and expanded opportunity — an extraordinary achievement. But over time, leadership shifted from moral suasion to political patronage. Welfare replaced mutual aid. Bureaucrats replaced neighbors. Racial grievance replaced dignity. Poor blacks were told they could be redeemed only by outsiders, while a growing civil-rights industry prospered by managing their despair.

When accountability dies, predators prosper. … Victimhood is not liberation. — Robert L. Woodson

Blaska’s Bottom Line: It is a perverted progressive pantheon that replaces the Reverend King and role models like Sen. Tim Scott and educator Kaleem Caire with petty criminals like Kenosha’s Jacob Blake, Madison’s Tony Robinson Jr., and Minneapolis’ George Floyd.

Dr. King or Rodney King?

Excellent post! I read the Cap Times article and, like you, noticed that they did not report, and/or the “study” did not determine, per capita exits from the Madison Schools. Thanks for pointing out a greater percentage of racial minorities are trying to leave! I thought you would pounce on this one and you did!

Excellent comment for this day. I believe a huge irony here is that the race hustlers like Sharpton or Jasmine Crockett, Cori Bush, Ibram X. Kendi, etc.,
have been imposed on us all as the chosen Black leaders of this era mainly by white liberals, who get to feel superior to other (supposedly racist) whites cheaply without any real sacrifice at all. Meanwhile, people like Woodson, or Shelby and his son Eli Steele, Coleman Hughes, Tim Scott, Thomas Sowell, etc., go largely underappreciated and sidelined even though they are the true heirs of Martin Luther King’s vision.

Very good David, and you didn’t mention January 6th even once. I think president Trump would agree with you even though you don’t agree with him. The 2020 election was stolen by a corrupt democratic controlled election system empowered by covid mania.

Did the Cap Times seriously believe that no one would notice the skewed perspective in that article? Or did they count on Madison progressives reflexively concluding that white students are fleeing MMSD because of …. (drum roll) systemic racism? At least it confirmed my bias that any article that privileges “equity” over “equality” is worthy only of wrapping fish in. Meanwhile, the toxic blight known as DEI continues to spread at UW-Madison. Why isn’t there an academic equivalent of ICE?

Really sucks to be a rich white guy these days. Your constant life of victimhood must be torturous to endure.

Just a technical note: evaluation of the ethnic distribution of students who opt out of MMSD should not be based on the general City of Madison population (NB: MMSD also includes adjacent suburbs). The proper comparison is the ethnic make up of current MMSD students. With that correction made, the exit of white students is disproportionately larger while Black and Latino students are less likely to opt out of MMSD. This obvious correction undermines the basic evidentiary thrust of the original post (and the customary parade of predictably ideological comments).

We just now did find a source for school district demographics at the National Center for Education Statistics. The only number that changed was the percentage of white residents — to 71% from the 70% previously reported from the city of Madison only.

I saw something on X last week. Person was saying most “liberated women” have just traded being dependent on a husband to being dependent on an employer who is often a male. I think most of the time liberation is not liberation. But it’s oh so seductive.

What about a male working for a female? Is he just a gigolo?

A gainfully employed female who has a male supervisor is not exhibiting dependent tendencies. But she does have an honest job.

Your post is nonsensical and out-of-touch, One Eye.
