Madison mayor wants to gut Police Monitor/Oversight Board

Is this the Rapture?

Even atheists get religion in a foxhole. The corollary is that nothing induces good government like an empty cash register.

Her backside pressed up against the fiscal wall, Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes Conway proposes to eliminate the Police Monitor/Civilian Oversight Board if her $22 million spending referendum crashes and burns. The real shocker is that she’ll cut the do-nothing  agency by $195,000 even if voters do approve the referendum! It’s budgeted at $509,000 annually.

Good for her but Mayor Satya seems unaware that she just created an even more compelling reason to vote No in the election that ends November 5.

Why wound the monster when you can kill it off, entirely?

Defund the police by other means

The Police Monitor/Civilian Oversight Board was always a ransom taxpayers paid to Woke racial arsonists in the super-heated atmosphere of a black man’s suicide by cop. The City shelled out $360,000 to a Berkeley CA boutique to recycle Plan B to create this do-nothing tribunal. It has no power to hire, fire, or discipline. In its four years, this clanking contraption has yet to entertain a single complaint about Madison’s supposedly racist police. Hasn’t managed to write up a complaint form!

The ordinance creating the Oversight Board illegally demanded appointment by race (we won our lawsuit to get that rescinded). It first offered the job of director to someone found to have sexually harassed. Its first order of business was to establish its pronouns. Its board chairman thinks white supremacists are out to kill her. Now that member is accused of using her paid city position to threaten police with retaliation if they arrested her daughter. (“Do you know who I am?”)

→ Zero out the Police Civilian Oversight Board we said back when.

→ Mayor Satya’s budget proposal.

Blaska’s Bottom Line: We can live with the demise of free wood chips but the Police Monitor/Oversight Board is symbolic of the unproductive bureaucracy that social justice warriors have imposed, via guilt tripping and outright harassment, on all levels of government, academia, and big bidness. Scratch unproductive! the damn thing is destructive!

The Werkes is asking alders to commit to Mayor Satya’s plan or, better, zero out the Monitor/Oversight Board entirely, regardless of the results of November 5. You can do so here.

What are you waiting for?

“Her backside pressed up against the fiscal wall”

    Oh that poor fiscal wall!

“Scratch unproductive! the damn thing is destructive!”

I would include changing the speed limit on Whitney Way under this umbrella. If the city has the resources to do crap like that then they have too many resources.

    Vote No.

Here’s one example of the expensive boondoggles this city specializes in. I used to live near Starkweather Creek and the greenspace surrounding it just off Atwood. This area was a refuge for every kind of wildlife (some cuddlier than others, but still). Then the city decided to put a bike trail through this area–not that anyone had asked for it. After it was built, and the habitat it provided permanently compromised, a neighbor took it upon herself to monitor the traffic–which turned out to be non-existent. If this is an example of the city’s priorities, then it deserves to have considerably more than $22 million cut from its budget.

Everyone knows that was a scam used to hide the fact that FEMA could secretly seize that land. As they were building the bike path, they buried their weather machines. They use those machines to create the mild winters that we are experiencing. This saves the Dems money in snow and ice removal. The money saved is then funneled into their other nefarious programs such as space lasers that over-ride voting machines. That’s how the Dems keep winning in Dane county.

You should write for the Babylon Bee!

The Babylon Bee features deftly brilliant satire, not imbecilically half-witted gibberish.

No yelling FIRE in a crowded theater.

That, too, is protected…WELCOMED even…speech…provided the theatre is on fire…
