School-to-prison pipeline is back in session
Large-scale lunch-hour brawl near East High School
12:10 p.m. 9-18-19 — Officers observed and responded to an active fight in the intersection of 4th and Johnson Streets. A large crowd (75-100) of adolescents gathered at the intersection. An officer deployed OC due physical confrontations in the crowd. MFD responded to provide aftercare. An officer sprained her ankle during the incident and another officer was slapped on the arm by one of the youths. Video evidence is being reviewed. Citations will be issued to those adolescents involved/identified. This incident reported late due to the fact that the reporting officer was injured and sought medical treatment.
Take the money, leave the backpack11:12 a.m. 9-18-19 — Officers met with a victim (16-year-old AAM) who reported being approached by two AAMs (one of whom was armed with a handgun) in the Darbo neighborhood.The suspects stole the victim’s backpack and money. The backpack was returned to the victim (the suspects fled with the cash). The incident reportedly occurred on 9/18 but was not reported until 9/19. Investigation continuing.
Combatting the vaping hysteria
Vicki McKenna will testify in defense of vaping before the House Committee on Oversight and Reform this Tuesday 09-24-19. She has editorial support from Rich Lowry, National Review, who writes, “Never before has a boon to public health been met with such hysteria and ingratitude.
“Vaping is almost all upside in comparison with traditional smoking, a wanton destroyer of health and lives, and yet the nation is in the grips of a panic about e-cigarettes.”
NY Times buried evidence exonerating Kavanaugh
The New York times had blockbuster new evidence exonerating Kavanaugh but instead emphasized a flimsy allegation. David French in National Review.
