Blaska Policy Werkes

"Get those puppies organized." — basketball commentator Bill Raftery

  • Give it up, people!

GOP’s kooks in the crawlspace hurt the brand! They’re still at it! You’ll never guess who was responsible for the insurrection that attempted to overturn the 2020 presidential election. Not the peace-in-the valley Proud Boys nor the kumbaya Oath Keepers. Not even Mike Pence for “failing to do the right thing.” No, the villain of 01-06-21 was — are you ready for this? That wily 4-D chess grandmaster, Nancy Pelosi! Who sez? The noisy coterie of Election Deniers who continue to beclown my Republican party, is who sez. How is the former Speaker to blame? By not calling out the…

  • Hope struck out

Are we doomed to disappointment? Couldn’t bear to watch more than the top of the first inning. Brewers second baseman Brice Turang worked a walk against the improbable Shohei Ohtani. The cheap seats at Stately Blaska Manor thought this was the Milwaukee team we were accustomed to seeing — the team that created basepath havoc to ring up baseball’s best record in the regular season. There followed the so-called Meat of the Order. Jackson Chourio, so devastating in the winning series against the hated Cubs. But he struck out. Christian Yelich, the team’s leading run producer, whiffed. Followed by…

  • Brave voices are stirring

But courage is needed. It is only a small generalization to say that elected government in Madison and surrounding Dane County wallows in guilt, apologizes for success, cultivates grievance, and celebrates victimhood. Now Mayor Satya wants to fly the Ho Chunk flag at city hall at equal height with the U.S. flag. The stolen land thing, doncha know. Much of this lovely city’s nonsense emanates out of our major university, which employed a DEI czar who gave himself a $50,000 raise, resulting in a salary twice that of the governor to feed in the trough of the UW’s $21.8…

  • Defund the police is not dead

Just more clever! Like we were saying in the last thrilling episode, the first impulse of the ruling UniParty here in Dane County is to slash law enforcement. After years of dithering over replacing an outdated and unsafe jail, our elected officials decided to build a new — but smaller — lock-up in Wisconsin’s fastest-growing county. We’ve lost track of the county’s decarceration initiatives. Now some county supervisors want to shrink the number of sheriff deputies and give the savings to the homeless. A county board committee will consider three different proposals tonight. The first would cut 16 deputy…

  • Is Madison ready to quit the crazy?

We hear things! Ran into Mike Verveer at Bob Keller’s funeral a week ago at Bethel Lutheran Church. Mike is by far Madison’s longest-serving alder — 30 years! We asked if the Council would finally pull the plug on the do-nothing Independent Police Monitor and its anti-cop Police Civilian Oversight Board. He thought maybe one of the 20 alders might but did not vow to do so him himself, despite his leadership role. Which is beyond frustrating, given the open window provided by the over-paid police monitor himself — s/he just resigned after three years of doing zero monitoring…

  • Prosecute your enemies

Pay nothing unless you win! If Donald Trump can bring peace to the Middle East maybe the strum und drang of this presidency will have been worth it. (Norway should worry how he’ll react to the Nobel Peace Prize sleight.) Now maybe the President can bring peace to these shores! This 33-year dues-paying RINO experiences a fair amount of borborygmus as the President forces his political enemies to do the perp walk. It’s historic, this Presidential dragnet. Jefferson tried former vice president Aaron Burr for treason in 1807. Trump to Founder Tom: hold my high-fructose soda. Trump’s goons raided John…

Imagine a president going to the Supreme Court oral arguments on birthright citizenship and sitting in the audience to stare down the justices who may rule against his government’s case. … It has never happened before in all U.S. history. And surely, it will prove a miscalculation. That court is not going to be afraid of his glowering visage. — Peggy Noonan
