Dane County supervisors will entertain public comment tonight beginning at 6 p.m. on next year’s annual budget, which would cut 28 positions from the sheriff’s department. We devote this blog to Mr. Ray Mendez, parent of a Madison public school student to Superintendent Joe Gothard and the school board: The head-stomping at Madison West was not a “fight.” It was a near-fatal attack. Madison Police arrested three teens; two are accused of first-degree reckless injury and battery, and a third faces battery and disorderly-conduct charges. Republicans helping our kids learn
by banning smartphones in the classroom! No thanks to Assembly Democrats Gee Wally, even Tony Evers signed it. Just today! A bill to ban smartphones during school hours. Something Madison’s public schools could not bring themselves to do. Something Democrats here in Dane County and statewide could not bring themselves to support. Nineteen states already ban or restrict smartphones. Even Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker called for classroom cellphone restrictions. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul did it. (They’re both Democrats, BTW.)
