But courage is needed.
It is only a small generalization to say that elected government in Madison and surrounding Dane County wallows in guilt, apologizes for success, cultivates grievance, and celebrates victimhood. Now Mayor Satya wants to fly the Ho Chunk flag at city hall at equal height with the U.S. flag. The stolen land thing, doncha know.
Much of this lovely city’s nonsense emanates out of our major university, which employed a DEI czar who gave himself a $50,000 raise, resulting in a salary twice that of the governor to feed in the trough of the UW’s $21.8 million diversity, equity, & inclusion bureaucracy. The medical school employs a former city alder, Shiva Bidar Sielaff (Did we say Madison politics is the UniParty?) as its associate dean for “Diversity and Equity Transformation.” Has your doctor been equity transformed?
UW-Madison is the university that expelled a 42-ton rock for being racist.

Of all this, not a dissenting word from the Democratic Party of Dane County, which endorses local candidates for supposedly non-partisan offices. It now backs the same candidates as Progressive Dane, a doppelgänger for the local socialist party. Heidi Wegleitner and Yogesh Chawla are PD, they’re also endorsed by the Democrats. They may even be a breath mint!
After Supt. Jennifer Cheatham threw Mr. Rob under the bus at Whitehorse middle school for disciplining the wrong demographic, Madison Teachers Inc. uttered nary a peep.
UPDATE: Votes on the three defund the sheriff amendments introduced by Heidi Wegleitner and Yogesh Chawla were postponed last night to the next committee meeting 10-23-25.
Good and hard!
The citizenry is beginning to call out the progressive hegemony. Mr. John Fons writes: “Madison voters picked the wrong people to lead our city.”
You want to know why Madison faces ever-increasing property taxes? … You want to know why a school district superintendent gets paid around $300,000 per year, and the school board nearly doubles its own salary? …
Until responsible, pragmatic, objective, hard-working, public-minded individuals accept the duty of offering themselves as candidates for office, Madison will get exactly what it has got now and exactly what it deserves.
Bernard Coxhead is a retired state employee. His letter to the editor proposes that “Dane County needs real change, not gimmicks.”
Dane County leaders are celebrating their new budget proposal as a “responsible” fix for a $31 million deficit. Don’t be fooled. This plan does not confront the real problem: Dane County’s addiction to spending. Dane County continues to funnel millions of dollars to outside contractors, with little to no accountability. … This creates a permanent ecosystem of advocacy groups and service providers whose survival depends on producing a constant stream of “victims.”
Peter Anderson is no Republican; he founded the liberal Environmental Decade. Courageously, he writes: “The school board doesn’t deserve raise for failing students.” Our terminally Woke school board is why black kids can’t read. Despite the record of unremitting failure, more of the same get re-elected.
Need people willing to stand up
“More Americans are in the middle and need to speak up,” a an essayist urged.
Why aren’t we hearing more from that middle? Because it feels too risky. If you speak up for civility or compromise, you risk being attacked from all sides. … What we need now are people willing to stand up .…
Spring elections are coming up next April.
How many “Americans in the middle” serve on the Madison school board? Savion Castro said the quiet par tout loud; he wants to prevent “older, whiter, wealthier folks” from joining him on the Madison School Board. On the Dane County Board? Only 5 of its 37 were curious enough to audit its $322 million in contracted social service spending. Why can’t the alders pull the plug on the failed Independent Police Monitor?
Blaska’s Bottom Line: thinks more Madison centrists might seek and win election if they had a political home. As it stands, they are mom & pops fighting the big box, UniParty chain store.

What level headed person would want to spend hours with the present school board make up. The school board should be appointed by a committee made up of educators, the present board is not educated enough to decide what is good for a good education. Diversity does not produce a functional education.
The current school board IS appointed by educators! They are all Teachers Union approved!
By my count you cite three voices of dissent raised against the corruption and fiscal profligacy endemic in Dane County/Madison “government.” And that’s about as much dissent as the petty tyrants and self-regarding twits who run this county/city will allow. When an organization’s power structure is as entrenched as it is in Dane County/Madison, real grassroots change is not just unlikely, it’s impossible. So be prepared to open your wallet when the next spending referendum passes by its usual lopsided majority.
Dementia Don said, “HE ALWAYS VOTED REPUBLICAN” That’s what got Santos out of jail after only serving three months of a seven-year sentence. Law and order party my Ass. After watching trump and that corrupt DOJ at work I’m not surprised at all. Might as well defund all the cops since the work they do is wiped out with a tweet from your crooked leader. Only thing worse is the corrupt supreme court.
What you subsidize you get more of.
trump’s new budget slashed federal help for schools. Ice teargassed an elementary school in Chicago. Your young Republicans had to disband in disgrace for the online posts they made. Your party is out of control and led by a bunch of brainwashed lunatics. But I know you have a list of faux news reasons to hate teachers and Democrats.
We won’t have to wait long for the perpetually aggrieved to demand that the Ho-Chunk “flag” be flown ABOVE the stars and stripes in Madison. After all, we live on stolen land. Ever notice how, when a “marginalized” group gains enough notoriety, they suddenly get their own flag? Even the trannies have one; apparently they felt they weren’t adequately represented by the LGBTQIAXYZ&&&&&&&& flag even though it contains all the colors of the rainbow and several that are completely alien to it. And so the balkanization of the country continues. How long before there’s a movement to get rid of the official national motto? “E pluribus unum.” How outdated–and of course racist.
