Madison just hates policing

What other conclusion would you draw?

A wonderful Labor Day weekend: weather clear & crisp, ribs smoked for sister Jane, the amazin’ Brewers come from behind with outfield acrobatics to save the day in the ninth, and the Badgers put up a credible first half against #4-rated Notre Dame. Life is good.

→ The best announcer since Bob Uecker calls the game.

Now back to kvetching:

Our favorite Madison morning newsprint wants the police officer who put down the knife-wielding Corey Ruiz to tell how bad he was injured. Apparently, the officer’s degree of guilt will be determined by whether he bled from an artery or a capillary.

→ “Decisions based on race aren’t helping Madison,” says this letter to the WI State Journal. What have we been saying?

Well, there should be!

Now the WI State Journal is on the suburbs to quit chasing Madison’s bad guys. “Monona, Maple Bluff should show more deference to neighbors,” it editorializes. Reaction via social media has been along the lines of Are You F-ing Kidding? (!!!)

“Maybe Madison should be a better neighbor to Monona and Maple Bluff,” counsels David Jaquish.

“Monona actually allows their officers to be police instead of making them stand in the corner like a 6 year old.” — Brad Mack

“There are more speeders in Madison that threaten innocent victims than we have police chases.” — Shannon Kennedy

I hope Monona sends a bill every year to repay the city for resources we are using elsewhere.” — Brandyn Oakley

“Criminals only flee in areas that they know the police will not pursue them.” — Don Rees

No city monument to a criminal

Turns out the Exceptional Corey Ruiz was a racist and a homophobe, as well as a thief and cop basher. So reveals more exceptional journalism from Chris Rickert: In 2021, Ruiz was found unconscious in a stolen vehicle carrying three knives, including one 16 inches long.

Among the things he told police was, “You better kill me now because I’ll beat the (expletive) out of you no matter what time it is,” the complaint says. He also called one officer a “white (expletive) pansy” and described him with a slur for gay people.

Which Madison alder will propose spending tax dollars to memorialize this criminal?

This ‘n that

Who would have guessed? Mike Lindell refused to concede his defeat in Minnesota’s Republican primary for governor.

• Lake Ontario was never called “Lake America,” not by the French, not by the Iroquois, not by Gordon Lightfoot. Amusing how many sycophants beclown themselves using a photoshopped map to buttress a peevish and petulant insult.

• Mark Pocan (D-Hamas) and Gwen Moore (D-Milwaukee) voted against HR 1490 resolution to condemn socialism in all its forms.

Blaska’s Bottom Line: If Eskimos have 30 words for snow you can bet criminals know they need only step on the gas to elude Madison police. Two questions: How many lives have Monona Police saved by taking criminals and speed demons off the road? AND …

Will any Madison mayoral candidate back the blue?

MH film fest is more fun than you might think!
