Trump reminds us of General Patton directing his armored tanks in that traffic jam.
Good to see Gov. Gavin Newsom waiting (and waiting) on the tarmac to greet President Trump to burning Los Angeles. Trump actually shook his hand. Newsom knows he’s in trouble politically; why fight the guy with the power to direct billions in aid?
The Werkes has been accused to igniting partisan politics in our criticism of the response to the conflagrations destroying property and lives there. Specifically, California’s obsession with global climate change and Woke identity politics over essential services like fire and police. Then why must property owners wanting to clear out highly flammable chaparral first do battle with state bureaucracy?
Yep, they got to apply for a permit! The permit application requires property owners to schedule a visit by a state parks representative, pay $150, and (typically) wait eight weeks. That’s if they want to save their own homes, because the state isn’t doing it.
The Wall Street Journal reports that “Impatient with government bureaucracy, … some of Mr. Josephson’s neighbors cleared it on their own. … Of 81 houses in the vicinity, Josephson said 54 are still standing.
Speaking truth to incompetence
Attention must be paid to the Will Rogers and P.J. O’Rourke of our times, Mr. Bill Maher. His most recent Real Time is must-see TV. Some quotes:
Yes, global warming absolutely makes it worse. But are what we going do? Pass ballot measure making sure the Chinese stop burning coal?
One of the three reservoirs was off-line while Mayor Karen Bass, the Nero of American politics, was fiddling in Ghana.
When the fires broke out, no one escaped by high-speed rail. We have the highest marginal tax rates of any state — and soon, Greenland. What is included for that? Breadsticks? … Because it clearly doesn’t … protect us from crime, violence, theft, or fire.
The good news is, our fire chief is a lesbian. … Maybe she’s the best person for the job or maybe she’s just the best lesbian for the job.
Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes, leaving for Seattle WA, was the real deal. On the way out this week warned that the Independent Police Monitor is looking for trouble in all the wrong places. Police monitor “analyst” Greg Gelembiuk is combing data searching for sharp hooks with which to impale the police department. In an interview withMadison 365, Chief Barnes accused the Police Monitor of:
“Asking for data and fishing through research papers to find a methodology that you think will give you the answer that you want so that you can create some kind of sanction or punishment for the police department. You cannot say you’re the Office of the Independent Monitor, and yet you hire people who go on social media and give their opinions about the police, who are on record with how they feel about the police.”
Blaska’s Bottom Line: Gelembiuk is one of those progressives who want to “reimagine policing.” Like Karen Bass reimagines fire fighting as an opportunity for virtue signaling.
Barnes, who I think has been a good chief, is being criticized for leaving Madison, some progressives say he is not loyal to the city. He has been looking to leave for quite some time, perhaps they should ask why. Could it have to do with the failure to approve body cameras which the chief supports? Could it have to do with the constant harrassment of the police by the members of the oversight board? Could it have to do with the fact that he gets no support from the mayor or the city council. We have had quite a turnover in the “chief of police” department in recent years. Why? I believe there are many qualified people who won’t want to even apply for the position because if they get it, no one in city government will have their back. You get what you vote for folks.

One of Maher’s better; to paraphrase H.D. Thoreau, he drives LaLaLoopyLoonyLeftyLand into a corner and reduces it to its lowest terms.
MONEY QUOTE (courtesy of Gotch pal Old Bill): “(Bass)wants everyone to be ‘safe.’ So, I guess they’re going to TREAT ALL THE BURNED NEIGHBORHOODS AS SUPERFUND SITES? Is that standard procedure? The fires evidently burned super, super hot. Asbestos, lead, mercury? Will all the ash need to be bagged and disposed of as hazardous waste? WILL EVERY ITEM NEED TO BE CATEGORIZED BEFORE IT’S HAULED OFF? Are the enough approved sites anywhere near LA to handle all this stuff as hazardous material?” (bolds/caps/italics mine)

To the Left, it is all form and no function. ‘Look at me and my virtue.
To the Right it is ‘What must be done, functionally, how, in what order and at what actual cost?’
Think about Dane County or California.

Great fun to see Karen Bass’ rictus horrbilis as President Trump schools her on how to lead and actually accomplish things.

Speaking of Patton, recall that when he had to open the way for his army, he shot the two obstructionist donkeys and had them thrown off the bridge.
Turns out one was called the Democratic Party and the other was called the Republican Party.

Which is unequivocally dangerous incompetence.
Leadership -v- Bureaucracy
