Trending on the Werkes’ social media feed is a photograph of Kamala Harris’ family that proves — PROVES — that the Democrats’ anointed one is not black. Look at her children! As if that were of any importance! As if there were not real issues afoot!

That’s what America is up against this political campaign season — mendacity piled atop weapons-grade stupidity — the fertilizer of totalitarianism. For the record: the Vice President inherited those children when she married the First Gentleman (will never get used to that terminology!), a Jewish man. They are her step children.

 She ‘turned black’?

So why is the Republican nominee playing identity politics? Isn’t that the Democrats’ game? But that’s what Trump did appearing 07-31-24 before black journalists. (Yes, they have their own separate but equal convention!) How does questioning Kamala’s race win undecideds? How did questioning Obama’s birth certificate work out?

Trump said he “didn’t know she was black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn black and now she wants to be known as black.” (Give him this: Pete Buttigieg identifies as a breast feeder!) 

Even Fox News was keeping its distance. “Would I have answered the question that way?” asked the usually sycophantic Jesse Watters. “Probably not.”

 At least he went into the lion’s den

Trump did make a point of noting that Kamala blew off the National Association of Black Journalists. Could have — but did not — ask if Democrats once again were taking the black vote for granted. (We mean no disrespect, but “Kamala” is more memorable than “Harris.”)

Could have riposted that it was Joe Biden who made Kamala a DEI hire by promising (and pandering) that he would pick 1) a woman and that 2) she would be black. But he did not.

Yes, the ABC newswoman greeted Trump on-stage with the journalistic equivalent of a two by four across the kisser. Instead of thanking the former President for gracing their stage. (“How’s the ear?”) That near miss, alack (and alas!), has not changed Trump one bit. After 78 years, the man is what he is. Challenge him and prepare for a fusillade of spaghetti on the wall.

Kamala, so recently disparaged as a candidate, is shape-shifting into a crime-busting, rail-pounding prosecutor (of which she has some claim). She’s on the podium claiming she “took on predators of all kinds … so hear me when I say, I know Donald Trump’s type.” There’s even a tee shirt.  

 Sting like a bee

A boxing match held in Tokyo 34  years ago seems relevant. Back then, Mike Tyson was so fearsome his challengers peed their pants. Of his 37 victories against no defeats, 33 were knockouts. Buster Douglas, a decided underdog, on that February day in 1990 actually hit the man, kept on the attack, and put Tyson down.  

Looks to the cigar-chewing bookies here at ringside that Kamala can float like a butterfly and is not afraid to sting Trump like an Africanized bee. Props to Trump as a fighter but appears to have a glass jaw. Cannot parry a punch, doesn’t know when to clinch, no footwork. Allowed Joe Biden to rope-a-dope him from his Delaware basement. Granted, Chris Christie took him on but too few were in his corner to begin with. “Chaos follows him everywhere,” as Nikki Haley jibed, is hardly a knock out blow.

Blaska’s Bottom Line: Pay per view could sell a Kamala v. Trump debate. Hold it in Madison Square Garden. Sell hot dogs. We don’t want Kamala Harris to win; Democrats deserve to lose! But great Gawdalmighty! Do we have to keep beating ourselves?
