We hear you!

Let the purges proceed!

Today we learn Mark Jefferson is out as executive director of the Wisconsin Republican Party. He’s the nuts and bolts guy who makes sure the lights keep burning; serves under the chairman, Brian Schimming.

Could be burnout — Jefferson has been on the job for five years, a long time in politics. Could be fund-raising, or lack thereof. Thanks to Hollywood CA, Wisconsin Democrats have raised $31.5 million since January 2023 to state Republicans’ $5.4 million.

Could be electoral failure: Republicans lost the governor’s mansion and the swing supreme court seat to Justice Spell It With Me. But Republicans re-elected Ron Johnson, increased their numbers in the legislature, and picked off a sixth congressional district with Derrick Van Orden in La Crosse. That’s a draw, at worst.

Still, it’s odd timing. The national party convenes in Milwaukee five months from now; the state party convention is less than three months away, on May 12.

‘Freaking Trump idiots’

It could be another sign that this is Donald Trump’s party. Trump wants national party chair Ronna McDaniel out and out she goes. That is the prerogative of every party nominee — although he aint’ the nominee yet! It could be that Mr. Jefferson is not sufficiently MAGA.

In December 2020, Jefferson blasted what has been called “the fake elector scheme.” According to the House Select Committee, he vented: ”Freaking Trump idiots want someone to fly original elector papers to the Senate President [Mike Pence]. They’re going to call one of us to tell us just what the hell is going on.”

This, after Trump critic Mike Gallagher announced he’s not running for Congress in the Green Bay district. And after former state party chairman Andrew Hitt threw Trump under the bus on national TV.

Nikki leads Biden by 16 points nationwide

Donald Trump, by only 2! This week’s Marquette Law School poll shows Nikki Haley leading Joe Biden by 16 points among voters across the nation — 58% to 42%. Whereas Donald Trump again falls within the margin of error over Biden, 51% to 49%. Sixteen points is the same spread by which Nikki leads in swing state Wisconsin. Trump could only tie. (“Nikki beats Biden big in Wisconsin“) Problem is, Trump leads Nikki among Republican primary voters 73% to 15 nationwide.

Trump brings out the worst in many of us — his critics and supporters alike. … But if you truly see that a particular man absolutely deranges many of your fellow Americans, doesn’t it follow that you should choose someone else to lead the United States? Good leaders don’t derange a huge faction of the country they are leading. Good leaders bring out the best in the people. More than anyone, Trump brings out the worst in Americans. …Conor Friedersdorf in The Atlantic

Nikki Haley also leads Biden by 13 points in a CNN poll, The Hill reported earlier.

“In other words, she can win the general election, and she can do that without bringing out the worst in all of us,” Friedersdorf concludes.

For the record

The Werkes believes all three New York prosecutions of Donald Trump are B.S. Doesn’t help that all three were brought by partisan Democrats who promised to look for a crime.

The real estate fraud case? Where are the victims? The New York banks aren’t complaining that Trump inflated the value of his real estate holdings. (Isn’t that something every home seller does?) Hellz bellz, they’re making money off Trump. New York banks aren’t exactly Bailey Bros. Savings & Loan.

Most criminal cases carry a statute of limitations. After so many years, evidence disappears and memories go cold. Got to believe the state legislature enacted a work around in order to prosecute Trump for the E. Jean Carroll department store changing room case. Civil court, lower standard of proof, no time limit, monetary damages.

Thirdly, hush-money payments to that porn star are a campaign finance violation? What a reach! Prediction: all three cases get overturned but well after November 3.

Blaska’s Bottom Line: Never-Trump RINOs like Blaska will sit it out if Trump is on the ballot and if he isn’t, MAGA maniacs will melt into the hills. Democrats, meanwhile, will retire Biden with a star-studded tribute led by Travis Kelce’s main squeeze at their Chicago convention.

Not sure which is worse a senile Joe Biden or a lucid Nikki Haley.

I’ll get right on that as soon as you make a cogent case for “Insurrection!™”

        Please cite the court cases.

There have already been eight convictions for seditious conspiracy.

Let’s try again… who has been convicted of insurrection? Perhaps it will come up in the SC ruling on Colorado. Will you take their word for it or run to the dictionary?

You are parsing the pepper from the fly specks. If you are arguing sedition vs. insurrection, you have lost the argument. It’s like arguing serial killer versus mass murderer.

Probably would be easier to list the not corrupt politicians than the corrupt ones, since it would be an almost empty list. No doubt Trump is corrupt, so I don’t know where Rs are supposed to turn if they’re looking for an honest presidential candidate who’s putting the country’s interests before their own.

So really we might try to pick the least corrupted of the bunch.

Excellent point. Dean Phillips seems to qualify. It helps to be untouchable by already being super rich.

The young ones start out pure (AOC is an example) but are also poor so easily corrupted. Not sure if term limits would fix that as the powers that be would just recruit an endless string of puppets.

As I’ve said before there may not be a way out of this under a democracy.

I think that democracy is the only way out of it. Particularly bringing democracy into more aspects of our lives.

Historically tyranny has been wielded by the state, and our country’s founding did ok at addressing that. But tyranny is also wielded by individuals and by corporations. I heard an interesting interview with Sohrab Ahmari discussing his book “Tyranny, Inc.” which focused on this idea. I think (given the little I know of your view on corporatism) you might be interested in his perspective.

She worked one year for Boeing. 315,000 a year. Not even close to being a military contractor. Also worked for United Homes group, Lexington Medical and Wilber Smith engineering. She was cleared of ethics charges TWICE in her career. Two guys even accused her of screwing around on her husband. They couldn’t prove shit and ended up looking like fools. Even helped her win because it made her look like people would lie, cheat and steal to beat her. Hope this helps you out one ball. Now stop acting like your speaking to the empty chairs at CPAC. “Prediction: all three cases get overturned but well after November 3.” Don’t bet the rent money on that.

Everything you stated in the For the record segment is incorrect. It would take me pages to correct your errors so I will only address the Carroll case that deals with adult survivors. You state: “Got to believe the state legislature enacted a work around in order to prosecute Trump for the E. Jean Carroll department store changing room case.”

You’re referring to the Adult Survivors Act (ASA), enacted in May 2002, which allowed alleged victims of sexual offenses for which the statute of limitations had lapsed to file civil suits for a one-year period from November 24, 2022, to November 24, 2023. The ASA is modeled after the New York Child Victims Act of 2019, which established a one-year window (later extended by an additional year) for victims of child sexual abuse to sue, raising claims that otherwise would have been barred by the statute of limitations (most claims were filed against Catholic clergy).

There was no mention of Trump or Carroll in the legislative process, which passed the State Senate unanimously and the Assembly by 140 to 3. There were lots of mentions of Harvey Weinstein and Bill Cosby.

More than 3000 suits were filed under the ASA. People sued under the act include Democrats Andrew Cuomo and Eric Adams (cases still pending).

Most legal analysts believe this portion of the Carroll case will be impossible to overturn. The only chance they have to delay the decision is to have the State Court of Appeals declare a mistrial, which is highly unlikely.

Your legal analysis is inaccurate and shallow. Not your finest hour.

    1. Rollie Avatar
      Rollie

Shallow is a good term for it. It’s especially rich to hear Cons like Blaska gripe about the lack of a victim in Trump’s fraud case. Open your eyes. There are thousands of regular people in jail right now for crimes where there is no victim!! Please do advocate that there should be a victim whenever there’s a prosecution. But don’t act like Trump is the only one that idea should apply to. All of our victimless crime prosecutions are “political”. But it looks like that’s only a problem when a rich Con gets the short end of that stick.

      1. David Blaska Avatar

Rollie says “There are thousands of regular people in jail right now for crimes where there is no victim!!”

        Name one.

        1. Rollie Avatar
          Rollie

Everyone in jail for any victimless crime. No need to act silly as if you never heard of the concept. If you forgot what it means feel free to look it up. It’s a widely researched and reported on concept, and indeed people are in jail for these “crimes”.

In all of these types of crimes society itself is “the victim”. There is no individual person alleging any damage or infringement upon their rights. These “crimes” are remarkably widespread in civil and criminal law. Some people are ok with it, some are not, but it’s certainly not unique to Trump’s cases.

        2. David Blaska Avatar

You keep saying the jails are full of inmates convicted of victimless crimes. I repeat my question: name one.

        3. rvtl1947hotmailcom Avatar
          rvtl1947hotmailcom

One part of a victimless crime is an act whose consequences are borne by society. Tax Evasion, insider trading, flag burning, smashing windows. etc. We, as taxpayers, paid to fix the capital. Al Capone went to jail over his taxes, not all the other stuff he did.

Statutes of limitations exist for good reason, and New York’s removal of them, even temporarily, was an assault of the rights of the accused and an affront to modern justice. An accused person cannot be reasonably expected to recall what they were doing on the day of an alleged assault that happened decades ago. That a person can be convicted of a sex crime in civil court when the same allegations would have been laughed out of criminal court is disgusting. Prove the crime beyond a reasonable doubt or forever hold your peace.

“There was no mention of Trump or Carroll in the legislative process, which passed the State Senate unanimously and the Assembly by 140 to 3. There were lots of mentions of Harvey Weinstein and Bill Cosby.”

Only proves that all but three New York legislators are not suckers and whores for the MeToo movement and the trial lawyers. I’m damn glad I don’t live there. That Trump wasn’t mentioned is irrelevant. You’re naive if you think man-hating feminists (but I repeat myself) like Carroll didn’t drool for a payday as soon as the New York legislature passed this.

C’mon folks. The BS charges and findings against Trump HAVE to anger everyone who has even the most basic understanding of every American’s civil and legal rights.

NY Gov Hochul felt the need to assure every business person in New York that this malicious, repeated prosecution could only happen to Donald Trump. Why did she feel the need?

We are constantly told that no one is above the law but to these harpies one man, sure as hell, is beneath it.

Derek Chauvin may be a similar case. Most of us breathed a sigh of relief after the guilty verdict as we prefer our cities to not be on fire.

Now there’s convincing evidence that he didn’t get a fair trial at all.

Small price to pay for peace and it could never happen to us right?

      1. Mordecai The Red Avatar
        Mordecai The Red

Chauvin was never going to get a fair trial and I’m sure he knew it. Few jurors would dare render a not guilty verdict after seeing the mayhem the mobs unleashed across the country. The verdict was little relief for me since it proved to these thugs that violence and intimidation can get them what they want, at least until reasonable people become fed up with their criminal behavior.
