We lost WI in 2020; he doesn’t want to lose it again!
Republicans who think they can purge their way to victory would call Andrew Hitt a RINO because he is Never Again Trump. Mr. Hitt chaired the Wisconsin Republican party from April 2019 to July 2021. He is an attorney based in Appleton for one of the state’s most prestigious law firms, was deputy legal counsel to Gov. Scott Walker, and clerked for conservative WI Chief Justice Annette Ziegler. Hitt told CBS News he worked “tirelessly” to re-elect Donald Trump in 2020. In several rallies, the candidate himself did shout outs to the party boss. Hitt was also one of the so-called “fake electors” who certified that Trump won Wisconsin.
Those are more Real Republican bonafides than the average armchair MAGA maniac. But Mr. Hitt is a RINO just the same because he knows the last presidential election was not stolen in Wisconsin. Neither (far as we know) does he mock the disabled, pay hush money to porn stars, or deprecate the sacrifice of our military dead, wounded, and captured. He does not make excuses for Vladimir Putin. As we said, Mr. Hitt is a RINO in good standing.
The former GOP chairman told the CBS news magazine 60 Minutes 02-18-24 that he feared violence from Trump’s rabid supporters if he did not sign on as a Trump elector (as we reported 02-17-24).
Even the Werkes avers that the 10 Republican electors who met that December day in 2020 should be called “alternate electors.” There is precedent: The governor of Hawaii in 1960 certified the state for Nixon but a court determined JFK had actually prevailed. Fortunately, Democrat(ic) electors had cast their provisional ballots for Kennedy. When Wisconsin’s Republican electors met in the State Capitol, the state Supreme Court that morning had ruled 4 to 3 against Trump’s bid to disallow absentee votes from Dane and Milwaukee Counties but a federal lawsuit was still pending.
Ironically, chairman Hitt said he, himself, voted absentee. He disagreed with the Trump attorneys’ legal reasoning that the ballots of 200,000 absentee voters should be thrown out — but thrown out only in the two heaviest-voting Democrat(ic) counties, Dane and Milwaukee. “Democracy in the Park” was indeed, not authorized by state statute. But the ballots cast thereby were legitimate ballots from real voters. The method of collecting those ballots were not legal, but the ballots themselves were cast by legal voters.
Bush v. Gore 2000 established that solutions are statewide, not cherry picked by county. In any event, the Republican party could have filed well before Election Day to outlaw ballot drop boxes; it did not.
While Wisconsin’s GOP electors may have had a legitimate purpose, IMHO, that does not disprove allegations of a national scheme to subvert the 2020 presidential election in the other six swing states by the same tactic, for which Trump is a defendant in federal court and in the State of Georgia. Even so, Hitt claimed Wisconsin’s Republican electors were “tricked.”
Of the 2020 presidential election, “It wasn’t stolen; it wasn’t stolen in Wisconsin.” Would he support Trump? “This country needs to move forward. We need faith in our institutions again. It is not him, correct.” — Andrew Hitt.
Blaska’s Bottom Line: What does it tell you that not even a recent chairman of the WI Republican party won’t vote Trump and is willing to go public about it?

“Bonafides” have given us the 34 trillion debt. Whether it’s Biden on the left or Haley on the right I won’t vote for a “bonafide”.
We already know that you and I see the debt issue differently. But a honest question: will you vote for Trump even though tremendous additional debt was added during his term? Do you think a king-of-debt will turn a new leaf on this issue?
Congress has to approve all spending.
And the president has to sign the bill. Either you’re trolling or actually trying to make the case that the president has no influence on spending. Okey-dokey.
You’re right he didn’t have a good record on that. Part of that was the pandemic and part of that is his constantly putting high octane into the economy. If I could wave a magic wand and make Trump president tomorrow I wouldn’t do it. The Fed must have room to defeat inflation once and for all. Biden for all his faults has let them do that.
We may be in a different place in November, and I will carefully watch the debates to see how the candidates plan to fix the debt crisis.
Assuming Biden is not the nominee I’m a long way from deciding who I’ll vote for.
Thanks for a thoughtful reply, a respect your perspective.
I suspect Nikki Haley is going to get spanked Tuesday in S. Carolina, her home state. If that happens, then your “Anybody but Trump” campaign ought to dry up because there are no other choices. It will be over. The choice will be Trump vs. whoever Dems decide to substitute in for Joe. Gavin Newsome? Michelle Obama? I suspect Trump will be coming to WI before the April Primary. Let me know if you need a ride.
I can only quote Volodymyr Zelensky, “I don’t need a ride. I need more ammo.”
heard that Mr. Hitt will now be opening a trump sneaker store.
I’m also Barred Permanently. Trump doesn’t want my vote because I support Nikki
Me too. I sent that bird-brain money, just one time! Now Trump will not have me back. Ever. It’s my own fault I suppose. Sad.
