Are we not supposed to fear crime?

Playing the race card didn’t work for Dukakis, either.

Recharged the battery for Blaska’s e-bike last April so maybe this mid-October day, with sunny skies and temps predicted in the upper 60°s F,  it’s time to take it out. Think we’ll start out — wait a second, we’re detecting a dog whistle!

Yes, definitely, a dog whistle!
Oooh, it’s LOUD!
Legs are twitching, trigger finger getting itchy!
Someone light the tiki torches!

If you hear the same dog whistle, you’re a conservative Republican like the Squire. It’s telling us to be afraid of crime! Not to welcome crime. Not to excuse it away as the natural result of Covid pandemic lockdowns. Or paltry teacher pay hikes. Or the failure of Biden’s original Build Back Better.

Can. Not. Resist. Dog whistle!
Must. Be. Afraid.
OF CRIME!

Whew! We’re like baseball outfielder Reggie Jackson in Naked Gun. “Must. Kill. The Queen.” (Sorry, someone beat you to it.) (Too soon?) At least, according to a scribbler out of Philly named Will Bunch in Sunday’s Wisconsin State Journal.

Want to get published in our favorite Madison WI morning daily newspaper? Write a hit job on Sen. Ron Johnson, R-WI. Go ahead, resort to every tired cliché and open-sourced Democrat(ic) party talking point. They’ll print it! Will Bunch even recycles Willy Horton because — demagoguery alert! — RACE CARD!

Not only is Sen. Johnson Republican, he is also, Bunch reports, lamentably WHITE! Whereas Johnson’s Democrat(ic) challenger is black. Not just black, but “Young, gifted, and Black.” (He capitalizes, we don’t.)

Partisan hackery

Someone dug out a faded, 40-year playbook and found their old box of racist dog whistles. The GOP is partying like it’s 1988 — the year that scary pictures of a felon they called Willy Horton … If you lived through that 1988 presidential race … or just know how the inertia of American white supremacy generally flows, you won’t be surprised to learn the … GOP strategy still works.

— Will Bunch, “GOP parties like it’s 1988

Milwaukee is on track to break last year’s record high for homicides. That the overwhelming number of them are black on black crimes matters not to the progressive hack. That the district attorneys in Milwaukee and Philadelphia follow the Chesa Boudin example of San Francisco — depopulate the prisons. Doesn’t matter.

“Milwaukee's soaring homicide rate renews debate over cash bail. The city is experiencing the biggest increase in shootings in the country, according to a mid-year analysis of 24 large cities.” — Time magazine.

Johnson Republicans, Bunch bellows, are stoking “a toxic mix of crime, fear, and straight-up racism to scare white middle-class voters about a rival who in this instance happens to be an African American.”

Ilhan Omar is ‘brilliant’

Why else would Republicans picture Barnes with “three women of color,” Bunch asks, who happen to be the far-left progressive darlings, aka “The Squad”? Never mind that Barnes is openly auditioning to join their ranks. (“Barnes reckons with his liberal past.” — Washington Post.) Criticize a black person (we do not capitalize “white,” so why …) and be served the race card.

It just happens to be true. CNN reports: “Mandela Barnes has signaled support for removing police funding and abolishing ICE – despite his ads claiming otherwise.”

Progressives need never contemplate why anyone — even clueless Mike Dukakis — would free convicted murders for a weekend on the town. Not when the Race Card is played face up!

Blaska’s Bottom Line: Sorry, Bunch, your race card has been declined for lack of funds. As for the State Journal, please report this as an in-kind campaign contribution to the Mandela Barnes campaign.

How is it progressives can hear our dog whistles when we can’t?

    Rhetorical question…?

Anywho; the person that HEARS the dog whistle IS the dog!

    And crime? What crime?

    From ethicsalarms.com:

“Though the number of homicides and some violent crimes dropped slightly in the first half of 2022 compared to 2021, violence in major American cities still remains dramatically higher than it was before the pandemic.

“In early December, ABC News reported that a dozen U.S. cities still set homicide records in 2021: Columbus, Ohio; Indianapolis, Indiana; Louisville, Kentucky; St. Paul, Minnesota; Portland, Oregon; Tucson, Arizona; Toledo, Ohio; Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Austin, Texas; Rochester, New York; and Albuquerque, New Mexico.”

Just east of the 77 Square Miles Surrounded By A Sea Of Reality, Milwaukee’s 2022 homicide rate is up an eye-popping 39%.

34 years ago it was bobblehead Dukakis playing tank boy. Now it’s Barnes struggling to make a PB&J.

And the debate around an important issue like social security is:

    RJ: “It’s a Ponzi scheme!”
MB: “He said it’s a Ponzi scheme!”

    We are all doomed.

  3. Interesting fact: The Willie Horton “smear” was first unleashed by whom? Al Gore sprung it on Dukakis in the Democrat primary. Nobody complained and nobody cried racism.

Will Bunch declared the Johnson attack ads as racist, but doesn’t say why. That’s because what makes it a racist attack, is Barnes race. He is black. He is attacked. Ipso facto the attack is racist. It inoculated Obama for 8 years. I would challenge Will Bunch to name a single accomplishment, achievement, character trait or quality attributable to Mandela Barnes, that qualifies him to even RUN for the Senate, much less get elected. He decries all the other millionaires running for office. Well, believe it or not, people make a distinction between a guy like Ron Johnson who is a self made millionaire, who provided thousands of jobs and built a large successful business, and a guy like Alex Lasry who got his from daddy. Barnes on the other hand had a mother who taught school and a father who worked 3rd shift. Great! Good for them. What have YOU done, Barnes? What have you accomplished? Ever held a regular job? What was your first job after you finished college? Ooops, I guess it was Lt. Governor of Wisconsin now wasn’t it? Not a bad internship eh? They even pay you before you graduate!!

If your job is to make attack ads for a political candidate, you use what works best regardless of whom it might offend. Lee Atwater et al. knew exactly what worked and used it–brilliantly. If anything, the lunatic socialists of the “Squad’ are scarier than Willie Horton ever was. He was just a lone POS criminal; they’re in positions of power that enable them to affect the lives of millions–for the worse, needless to say. The left want us to think that racial minorities are beyond criticism; if you buy into that fallacy, you’re playing their game and you’re bound to lose. As far as I’m concerned, anything goes if it keeps Mandela and his ilk from the corridors of power.

In fairness, while Sly was a mudslinging, loudmouthed, Democrat and union sycophant, I have to give him credit where it’s due—he supported the Second Amendment, abhorred illegal immigration (but mainly because it was a problem for unions), lampooned militant feminists, and outed rape hoaxsters.

Just checked the WI DSPS website and there’s no one with your name licensed to practice psychology, medicine, social work, or any other profession that might be involved in diagnosing the disorders you mention. So either you’ve got some expertise in this area we don’t know about or you’re just using mental illness as a perjorative to attack those you disagree with—not a good look for you in the latter case. I have friends and family members with real mental illnesses and using these conditions as argument ammunition is insulting. Not quite to the level as, say, Samantha Bee likening a conservative chemotherapy patient to a neo-Nazi, but in the same ballpark.

          Dear Mordecai,

You accuse me of “using mental illness as a perjorative to attack those you disagree with.” Not really.

I use it to show how people like Gotch have hijacked conservatism. Politics has now become cut off from anything other than making one’s adherents feel good where grievances multiply like rabbits and cause people to be constantly furious. It celebrates the lowest common denominator everywhere. It gives velocity to appetites and passions that are unnatural. The cost to this cheap speech – a high-velocity lunacy , vituperation and just plain ugliness.

Conservatism used to have an ideological wing with thinkers like William F. Buckley and Milton Friedman and Russell Kirk. And as the Republican Party became the “party of ideas,” that necessarily put a target on their backs: overturning “the so-called ‘Republican establishment’ meant overturning the bookish side of it, overturning the intellectual side of it. It’s natural, if disreputable, that populism would say, “Enough of these ideas. We want passions.”

The late Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan said many wise and memorable things, including this: “The central conservative truth is that it is culture, not politics, that determines the success of a society.” Gotch, along with Trump, Guliani, Herscel Walker, et al and hundreds of others, have usurped conservatism and turned it into a sick cult that glorifies the strongman. That’s how I diagnose mental illness.
