Trump derangement syndrome works both ways

America’s political pendulum no longer swings, it lurches.

If Donald Trump did it, Joe Biden will undo it and back and forth. That’s how politics werkes these days. Trump built the wall, Biden tears it down. Trump backed the police (until January 6, anyway). Biden, who wrote the 1994 Lock ‘em Up legislation that made cities safer, is now so Woke he vibrates.

Republicans in Trump Only (RITOs) say the election was stolen. Democrats cry Racism if states restrict midnight ballot harvesting in the park. January 6 is a political Rohrsach test:

  • Patriotic Minutemen fighting for truth and justice;
  • Just an AARP tour bus excursion;
  • An Antifa/FBI false flag operation;
  • A lamentable “breach” of the Capitol;
  • Failed insurrection and attempted coup;
  • Worse than 911 and Pearl Harbor.

The root of the problem

Progressives and Trump populists — both extremes — demand more of our politics than a functioning democracy can deliver. Which is why the political spectrum is more a circle than a straight line. The Far Left and the Trump Right are impatient with deliberation; contemptuous of compromise. They want action, by force if necessary. They want it now. Your opposition is not only wrong but corrupt.

The qualitative difference, please, between the destruction, looting, arson and beat-downs in downtown Madison last summer and the Stop the Steal 01-06-21 in Washington DC?

Capitol nut rally

Trump’s bitter enders will stage their version of the Confederacy’s Lost Cause at Wisconsin’s Capitol @ noon on August 6. “We the People demand a forensic  audit of the 2020 election.” Assembly Speaker Robin Vos isn’t RITO enough for these people.

Everything is a nut job conspiracy

  • A fetid swamp of pedophiles and foreign agents jiggered the November 3 election.
  • Adam Schiff had proof that Trump colluded with Putin. (Proof that went Poof! Really, is Schiff any less crazy than Marjorie Taylor Greene?)
  • Brett Kavanaugh is a serial rapist, Michael Avenetti tells Rachel Maddow.
  • Navy Seals loyal to Trump arrested and executed Resistance mastermind Hillary Clinton. (The fact check here.)

Blogge reader Gary Kriewald puts into words the delusion left unsaid by so many Trump foot soldiers. “To think how close that small band of patriots came on Jan. 6th to overthrowing the whole rotten apple cart!” (A response to our previous blogge, “Republicans can’t move on until they settle up.”)

→ Not to be outdone, the self-described voice of Dane County progressivism wants Big Gummint, in the form of the WI Elections Commission, to bar from the ballot “Trump and others who encouraged the insurrectionists.” (Here at The Capital Times.) Yeah, leave it to unelected bureaucrats to determine what “encouraged” means. Can’t trust the voters.

Blaska’s Bottom Line: Trump derangement is an equal opportunity syndrome. Kriewald and his RITOs drink the same bile as Antifa in Portland and BLM in Minneapolis. The former yearn for the imposition of an American Mussolini; the Hard Left wants to foment another Cuban revolution. Anyone who gets in the way will be canceled, purged, or executed.

Might our democracy be in trouble
when both sides hate Mike Pence?

    Please don’t lump all Trump supporters in with those who support anarchy and conspiracy theories. A relative handful of troublemakers storm the nation’s Capitol and therefore any of us who question the election are loons? Maybe it’s not your intention, but it’s how it comes across.

    I guess I don’t see what’s so wrong with performing an election audit. It’s not going to change the outcome of this election, but at least the truth will be settled. This is no longer about Trump. It’s about maintaining confidence in our election process, which without we are lost as a country.

        Well, when I see an image of Sheriff Clark with the caption “Trump’s bitter enders will stage their version of the Confederacy’s Lost Cause at Wisconsin’s . . .” I’m not sure what else I’m supposed to take away from it.

        I thought David admired Sheriff Clark, no? Now he’s a bitter ender for demanding an audit? That must mean I’m a bitter ender because I too expect transparency in my elections?

        While Dave is most certainly entitled to his own thoughts, I also think he’s alienating allies, with these Trump posts, including those who supported him when he ran for election.

        The actions of a few conservative extremists in no way measures up to the Marxist infiltration of the left. It’s not even close.

      Liberty, do you really think putting an electron microscope to all 3,297,352 ballots cast in Wisconsin’s 2020 presidential election is going to change anyone’s mind, no matter the conclusion? Do you think any amount of evidence will dissuade the Republicans In Trump Only?

        Sure, some will never accept the truth, but what about the rest of us? Don’t we deserve to know whether our elections are being run fairly and honestly?

        Right now, my faith in the system is mediocre, and in some people’s eyes that makes me a conspiracy theorist and nut. I’m expected to just shut up about the discrepancies and pretend they never happened?

        Don’t worry, this is not about Trump anymore. If people can’t trust elections, we’re screwed. With that said, II want Democrats to feel secure in the election process too.

          So everyone who questions the integrity of elections is being unreasonable?

          I don’t even have to look at Maricopa. What about Michigan issuing 7 million ballots even though state law says you need to request a ballot and show ID? And not just in Michigan. I believe I received TWO provisional ballots I didn’t even request. Or Democrats changing election laws weeks before the election?

          If you want to take a partisan official’s word for it that everything is fine, that’s your right, but I need more evidence than that. I don’t think this is asking too much.

    Preach it to the ends of the Earth bother Blaska!

    The more civil majority needs to shut the door on both ends of the extremes.

    Motivation isn’t optional. Everyone is motivated to do nothing or to do something, either negatively or positively.

    Our values are the base standard for our personal bottom line. Values are our beliefs about what is important in our lives, what is right and what is wrong. Values give us validity. Use our values as leverage and they will support bold actions; choose to actively inspire that which agrees with our values and actively condemn that which oppose our values and do it across the board.

      Agreed, except that the extremists from the left are doing most of the damage. It’s not conservatives who are terrorizing & destroying cities when they don’t get their way, attacking police, teaching racist CRT in elementary schools, and allowing a border crisis to change the fabric of this nation.

      I know you know this, because I often read your astute blog posts.

      I have no great love for Donald Trump though I came to admire his “style,” for want of a better term–it was always guaranteed to ruffle the feathers of pious lefties. He actually managed to implement policies that “moderate” Republicans had mumbled about for decades without effect. It’s unlikely that Republicans/conservatives will find another candidate as charismatic as Trump but without the bluster and bellicosity. Unfortunately, Mr. W., our country has reached the point of no return–call it historical inevitability. The “civil majority” (and I’m not convinced it is a majority) no longer has the option of shutting the door on both extremes. Its only option is to decide which of the extremes to follow. Biden, senile and clueless, has become a mouthpiece–and barely manages that role–for the Democrat extremists who are pulling his strings while Harris rubs her palms in anticipation of ascending the throne. Without Trump, the Republicans seem to have settled into a state of permanent senescence, barely raising a peep of protest while the country suffers irreversible degradation. Meanwhile, we are treated to the daily spectacle of Democrats perverting our institutions and dismantling our basic freedoms in a way that makes the events of Jan. 6th look like a Sunday school picnic.

        False equivalence: is a logical fallacy in which an equivalence is drawn between two subjects based on flawed or false reasoning. This fallacy is categorized as a fallacy of inconsistency. Colloquially, a false equivalence is often called “comparing apples and oranges.”

        I didn’t present any equivalence.

    O.K. let’s not. BUT in order for Republicans to be elected or re-elected, distance must be placed between Trump’s obvious & self-serving encouragement for anarchy. It doesn’t matter if it was intentional or not -Trump displayed no political savvy, no thought for the party’s future, nor the country’s. He manifested just plain stupidity.

    SO: How would Trump be a viable candidate in 2024?

      I’m not saying he is. Frankly, I think at this point he’s a distraction.

      This is not about Trump anymore though. It’s about showing some respect for those of us who did support him, and more importantly acknowledging that his popularity was a result of people being fed up with the establishment. Yet corporate Republicans remain clueless on this front.

        Meanwhile, as we go back and forth about Trump, Democratic Marxists are destroying this country. Maybe we can focus on that instead of in fighting?

        I take it you’ve seen what’s happening at the border, in classrooms, with a reversal of energy independence, allegiance to China, and with conservative voices being censored on social media?

        We’re not going to get from under this mess if we continue to fight with each other. But by all means, let’s focus on Trump.

          I will agree with you that Trump inserts himself into the public arena when it would probably be best for the party if he didn’t. Nobody ever said the man wasn’t arrogant.

          With that said, even if Trump wasn’t making it about himself, you can bet leftists would still be obsessed with him. What do you think this J6 commission is all about? Because if this was really about seeking the truth, these same politicians would be looking into last year’s riots, including the time Trump had to be escorted away from the White House for his own safety. Without Trump, we’d have to focus on how the left is destroying the country, now wouldn’t we?

          Again, this is no longer about Trump. It’s about how we the people are getting screwed. Trump merely opened our eyes to it. Trump may not be our party’s future, but the Cheneys, Paul Ryans, Kinzingers, Bushes, Lincoln Project, etc. sure aren’t either.

          Can we agree on a few viable candidates we can rally around? Here are some of my preferences:

          Ron DeSantis is at the top of this list. The man is a genuine leader unlike no other.
          Tim Scott
          Mike Gallagher. I like what I see so far.
          John Kennedy from Louisiana

      Side note. The J6 instigators are already being held accountable. Some, mind you, are still rotting in jail as murderous felons are getting released without a trial, free to assault again. Crime has skyrocketed because of leftist policies.

      But hey, let’s focus on Trump.

          Bingo. As we fight over Trump, crime is soaring, cops are retreating, murderous felons are not being held over for trial, the border has become detrimental to our security, we’re losing our energy independence, kids are being taught racist CRT, and Marxists are trying to radically change the fabric of this country.

          We’re not going to be able to right radical agendas if we remain divided over Trump. I get it, some conservatives can’t stand him. Their right. The rest of us supported him. Our right. J6 was a travesty, and instigators are being held accountable.

          Now let’s move on because our country is falling apart.
