but suggests Trump isn’t out of the woods
Republican leader Mitch McConnell saved Donald Trump a second time today 02-13-21 from impeachment. But not from the verdict of history. McConnell fell back on legal niceties to vote against impeachment — that thing about not impeaching a private citizen. He would not join fellow Republicans Richard Burr, Bill Cassidy, Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Mitt Romney, Ben Sasse, or Pat Toomey to convict. (TRAITORS! RINOs! Get the nooses!) The Senate vote was 57 to 43 to hold Trump accountable for the attempted coup of 6 January 2021. Ten votes shy of the two-thirds required for conviction.
But the Republican leader’s condemnation of Donald Trump’s role in the assault on democracy is scathing. Sen. McConnell also warned that Trump remains liable for criminal charges and/or civil suits.
‘President Trump is still liable for everything he did while he was in office. … Didn’t get away with anything, yet. Yet. … We have a criminal justice system in this country; we have civil ligation and former presidents are not immune to be accountable to either one.’

Absolutely not, Trump has not been vindicated. His behavior since the election was called for Biden has been nothing but disgraceful. I voted for him in both elections due to policy but will never vote for him again. I pity the GOP if by some chance he managed to win the 2024 nomination for President. We can do so much better than him!
One more thought: Hillary was the perfect fatally flawed candidate for Trump to run against in 2016. I think the fact that Trump was able to eke out a win over her gave him a false sense of superiority. While I’m cringing at all the damage that Biden and his handlers will do to the country in the next four years (look what they’ve done already), I now think that Trump might have done even more damage due to his massively inflated ego. Good riddance!
Who exactly would be better? Would it be someone like G.W. Bush who invaded Iraq and Afghanistan? Or perhaps someone like Obama, who had the Arab Spring (Syria, Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen, Lybia) and lost Crimea and Donbass to Russia?
It’s easy to advocate for a warmonger president when you are not the man who has to fight the war.
Remind me, how many wars did President Trump start? How many soldiers are still alive today because Hillary Clinton was not elected President of the United States? For every KIA there is a family devastated.

You can say the same thing about anyone, including Obama, whose words it can be argued, caused the ambush and death of five Dallas police officers. Or Maxine Waters. Or Aryanna Presley. Or any politician who’s used “fighting” words. Either we hold them all accountable for their words or we accept that adults have something called free will.

By the way, I never believed in election fraud because Trump said so. I believed it because I saw inconsistencies that didn’t make sense, double ballots, and Dems who fought hard NOT to allow an audit. Why not approve a full audit if you hae nothing to fear?
Believe it or not, many of us are more than capable of thinking for ourselves. Despite what some of you think, we are not Trump “cultists” or “true believers.” We voted for someone, who despite his personality flaws, is not a phony and puts America first.
If there had been honest, complete audits of the election, and the results proved that Trump lost, would that not have made the dems jump for joy? They could have proved beyond a doubt that America voted Trump down.
