$100,000 puts 18-year old charged with execution-style killing of Madison doctor & husband back on the street!
The mother of Khari Sanford, one of two 18-year olds charged with the execution-style murder of Dr. Beth Potter and her husband Robin Carre on March 31, has started a Go-Fund Me social media site to raise bail for her boy. Ronetta Sanford called her boy “a sweet and loving teddy,” against whom murder charges filed Tuesday (04-07-2020), “can’t be true.”
UPDATE #1: Mother’s GoFund-me site is today at 17:46 (04-09-2020) off-line for violating standards.
Update #2: On 10 March 2020, Dane County Circuit Court issued a bench warrant against Ronetta S. Sanford, age 34, on two counts of misdemeanor battery dating back to August 2018 after two failures to appear in court.
The mother says she needs one hundred grand to post bond on the $1 million bail set by the criminal court. As of noon today (04-09-2020), her site had collected $375. As we recounted earlier:
A jogger found Beth Potter the morning of March 31 lying aside a trail in the University of Wisconsin Arboretum. She was clothed only in pajamas and socks on a 30-degree night, not yet dead. Her husband, Robin Carre, lying nearby only in his underwear, was already gone. Police found .357 SIG shell casings around the bodies, “indicating a likelihood that the victims had been shot at that location,” according to the criminal complaint. Both had been shot point-blank in the head.
The lengthy criminal complaint appears to cross its T’s and dot its i’s with forensic evidence, GPS vehicle tracking, surveillance video recordings, cell phone traffic, and multiple witnesses to allegedly overheard conversations and the sound of gunfire in the Arboretum.
Khari’s mother, Ronetta Sanford, makes this plea:
“As you all know, this young man is sitting in jail right now for allegations that to whom know him best aren’t and can’t be true… we are posting this go fund me to help with legal fees or simply post bail because jail is not where he should be grieving the loss of the two he love as well.
“Khari Sanford is the oldest to a mother of 6 and a full time student at West High-school. Khari is the vice President of their Black Student Union, a strong student advocate voice in the community for all youth, whom just finished an internship at the Capital building that got him closer to his political dreams and ambitions. He has goals of going to college and majoring in political science, African American history and one day teach it the right way.”
The dead couple would want you to contribute!
“Beth Potter and Robin Carre were helping Khari with his living situation and were big advocates for his future and college goals. Khari appreciated everything they were helping him accomplish and always expressed that to them. Khari wants justice for the two whom he viewed as parents just as much as everyone else because they played such a vital roll in his life.
“We all know how the media can influence the public and is trying to paint him in a bad way. Those who know Khari knows that he is a very caring, sweet and loving teddy who couldn’t and wouldn’t HURT let alone MURDER any human being. We ask that you donate what you can and not let the media and their assumptions find him guilty before the full story is released.”
An on-line fundraiser begun April for Potter and Carre’s family raised over $28,000 before it was ended after a few days.
Blaska’s Bottom Line: We understand a mother’s blind love but wonder how progressive Madison will respond.

You only need to put up 10% to a bondsman, assuming he will take it.

I think Wisconsin law has a “Truth in Bail” requirement – and in fact a million dollars is $1.000,000 – we do not use bail bonds here. So if they raise $100,000 they’ll only need $900,000 more.

Like she said, these two were helping him out. A place to live, a car to drive, a hot girlfriend to sleep with, why there is probably nothing that would make him kill these two wonderful, caring people…..except a special request from the girlfriend.

Based on the comically illiterate slobberings posted by the riveting Ms. Sanford, she’s demonstrated that she’s not (IMO) smart enough to affect this ploy on her own; someone else is helping (for a stake) the effort to cash in on this somehow…someway.
Speaking of whom, have her sundry-n-many baby daddieS (plural) ponied up, or are they in on it too?

If this were not documented there would be no way to fathom this could be true. This double murder was the most horrific, soulless, demented, and heinous act that we have needed to know about in this city in the time I have lived here. I have lived here over 30 years, and while there has been madness before this entire story–up to the facts in this posting—places these murders and the ones who are responsible on a level separate from all the others. The absolute lack of any sense of morality screams out from this crime. There is no way a judge would allow for the release even if bail were met. They each have had their last day in the sunshine as free people.

I think you should change one word in that, change “would” to “should”; we can’t predict what a Judge would do just what we think they should do.

Is Jill Karofsky assigned to the case, he might just have to apologize and she will take him at his word that he will never do it again!
He did not do this because his girlfriend asked him to, very few with any brain would agree to that for that reason only.
He was a broken human being, clearly able to function but truly had no concept beyond his hedonistic urges. Many people with Sociopathic tendencies are able to pretend to care and fit in society. Some can achieve things but their underlying reason for being and doing those things are morally corrupt. An extreme example: Ted Bundy, he went to college and graduated even looked like he turned his life around, but his motivations was get revenge on the girl that dumped him. Outwardly looked functional but inside was morally corrupt evil incarnate.
Everyone is a big teddy bear until they are not. This story is unfolding and it gets sicker and more twisted with every turn.

With all due respect, I disagree. As his mother laments on the Go Fund Me page, these people had done so much for him. They were likely to him than his own family. The ONLY reason to kill them was to make his girlfriend happy, and she apparently made it clear it would do just that, make her happy and provide them both with money. “Say no more, I’m on the job!”
Funny, when I look up the definition of Love and Happiness in the dictionary, I do not see the words Murder in the first degree and double Homocide. I can only assume the suspect grew up in deplorable conditions with no opportunity until the 2 people out of LOVE decided hey lets give this kid a chance. If he was not broken inside and did not not have antisocial and sociopathic tendencies he would have had empathy and told the girl to take a hike. What his girlfriend may or may not asked to do was not out of LOVE. You do not ask someone to hold people at gunpoint and murder out of LOVE and you for sure do not actually do those things out of or for Love. You do them out of Obsession, and if this was about money Greed. I will also throw in being a young man once and knowing how powerful hormones play, Sex! Not one of those things are based on LOVE and Happiness!
People who are amoral have a different concept of love and happiness than you or I. Murdering the parents was simply the shortest distance between two points for these two. The point where they were (scraping by, living on Mom and Dad’s dime, while still going to high school) and where they wished to be (suddenly “rich” and independant.) And I repeat the obvious when I say that, no matter how big of a Gansta’ you are, you do not kill your girlfriend’s parents without her blessing, at least.

My wife knew the deceased about 20 years ago when the wife led religious education at the PUUS church. They were the finest people on earth. My head is still reeling from the insanity of it all. Sadly, parents are often the last to know the behavioral lapses of their offspring until a dramatic event occurs. Best wishes to the relatives of the deceased and now we want to see justice be served.

I was raised in the same environment 50 years a go where half the church was obsessed with sending missionaries 8000 miles away while misery was next door. These types haven’t gotten any smarter but the population of Africa has increased a billion.

This good boy was already in trouble this year for driving around an abandon vehicle. Maybe they can sell the gun he takes picture with to get bail money?
The charge was a stolen vehicle.
Not an abandoned vehicle. He stole it from his foster parents while they were in Africa after disabling their security cameras. He received deferred prosecution for that crime, which likely allowed him to legally buy the handgun used to commit these murders. Assuming that’s how he got the gun. He hadn’t completed the term of his deferred prosecution, so he is again facing charges for it. I read an interview in which his former former foster mother was asked about the deferred prosecution & she said that she was not allowed to weigh in on it at the time. Can you imagine? She had shown him kindness, he stole her car & then the judge didn’t want her input into whether he was appropriate for the program. Prior to murdering his victims, he also kidnapped them & forced them into their own vehicle which had been loaned to the girlfriend & presumably him as well. This is how he repays kindness shown to him.
