Lions and tigers and bears! Oh my!
2018 Dem congressional sweep may have been ephemeral
The 24/7 Hate Trump cable TV channel MSNBC carries a program hosted by Pajama Boy called “All In.” The Resistance media has been all-in on defeating Trump ever since the evening of November 9, 2016.
So far “in” the dismal swamp is the New York Times that columnist David Leonhardt woke up in a cold sweat today fearing that all his publication’s Trump-bashing may have come to naught.
The NY Timesman pronounces himself “terrified” that a poll published by ace political numbers-cruncher Nate Cohn shows Trump beating the Democrats’ rising star Elizabeth Warren in the battleground states of Michigan, Florida, and North Carolina. They’re tied in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Trump is behind Joe Biden in those five states by only two points, well within the margin of error.
“Maybe this is the wake-up call that Democrats need,” Leonhardt frets.
Trump voters are staying home
The shocker is Cohn writing that “Nearly two-thirds of the Trump voters who said they voted for Democratic congressional candidates in 2018 say that they’ll back the President.” Said with other words, the breakthrough of Nancy Pelosi’s Democrats in the last mid-term election is no harbinger of Election Day 2020. Nate Cohn:
“Democrats would probably need to win three of the six states (including Arizona) to win the White House, assuming other states voted as they did in 2016 — an outcome that is not at all assured.” Leonhardt again:
Democrats won in 2018 by running a smartly populist campaign, focused on reducing health care costs and helping ordinary families. The candidates avoided supporting progressive policy dreams that are obviously unpopular, like mandatory Medicare and border decriminalization. [John Nichols, call your office.]
⇒ The joke about Elizabeth Warren is “If you like your health care plan, we’ll take it away from you.” All while relieving taxpayers of 50 Trillion dollars. (More here.)
It’s Joe Biden who should be investigated
Leonhardt doesn’t say it so Blaska will. Cohn’s poll was taken with the Ukrainian phone call as background noise. Shiftless Adam’s credibility is at a nadir. The real investigation, now gone criminal, is who in the Deep State cooked up the Russian Collusion hoax? And Joe Biden — Obama’s point man on Ukraine — should be investigated! Holman Jenkins Jr. reports:
Mr. Biden can claim he was uninfluenced by his son’s employment. But his staff knew about the job. The Ukrainians knew. America’s European allies knew. The World Bank and International Monetary Fund knew. All knew that Burisma had to be pussyfooted around to avoid causing a scandal for Mr. Biden that might mess up the Obama administration’s ability to sustain support for the shaky regime.
This is what made Hunter Biden worth the money Burisma paid him to sit on its board between April 2014 and April 2019. And whatever the reason for firing prosecutor Viktor Shokin, it was decidedly not with the goal of making trouble for Burisma.
Then there’s this: On Aug. 28, 2016, the Financial Times reported that Mr. Trump’s rise to the GOP nomination had spurred “Kiev’s wider political leadership to do something they would never have attempted before: intervene, however indirectly, in a US election.”
What’s more, American soldiers are not front line in a shooting war. The economy is out-and-out gangbusters. The unemployment rate is a healthy 3.6%. (The average over the last 70 years is 5.7%.) For African-Americans, unemployment is the lowest on record. Wages are up 3%. The employment ratio for workers in their prime (ages 25 to 55) is 80.3% —the highest since January 2007. The stock market is setting new record highs, pleasing retired annuitants.
Blaska’s Bottom Line: Donald Trump is one big wart. Fauxahontas Warren has more five-year plans than Uncle Joe Stalin. Bernie Sanders recently did a campaign op in front of empty store shelves. (Venezuela, anyone?) And Joe Biden is beginning to make Hillary look like a Little Sister of the Poor.
