If Trump was bad; Kamala was worse

As disreputable as Trump was,
voters feared Woke Kamala more

We rarely agree with the emeritus editor of The Capital Times. When Dave Zweifel does stumble upon the truth he deserves a gold star of the kind Miss Romper Room would affix to your pencil scratchings on lined tablet paper.

My old boss of fond memory recounts how private peccadillos once derailed promising political careers — like when Gary Hart, the second coming of JFK, was pictured with a bounteous babe on his lap. The wording on the maritime lifesaver behind them told the tale: “Monkey Business.”

Adlai Stevenson’s perfectly legal divorce, it was thought in the 1950s, hurt his candidacy. Seventy years later, we’re about to return to the White House a man on his third wife and judged civilly  liable (based on a sui generis statute) for sexual assault. Mr. Zweifel despairs:

The old saw that you weren’t likely to care for the country and its citizens if you flaunted the law and behaved dishonorably no longer concerns Americans. 

 He may have a point

As one who grew up sitting in front of the b&w Philco waiting for the test pattern to give way to the Howdy Doody Show, we blanch today (for one example) at the all-body deodorant advertised, its female pitch person suggests, to fumigate the land down under. The coarsening of America. Even so, it is our mission here at The Werkes to attach jumper cables to the somnolent, to unsettle the certain, to afflict the bien pensants.

Might the editor emeritus consider why American voters welcomed this p-grabbing barbarian at their gates? Did they regard the MAGA restoration preferable to another four years of Joe Biden/Kamala Harris progressivism?

Now that the election is over, the New York Times can print the news again. Its latest public opinion polling finds that 87% of voters want illegal immigrants with criminal records to be deported. Fret not, the NY Times still wears its bias on its starched shirt sleeves when it writes: 

The issue of rights for gay and transgender people ranks far down most Americans’ list of priorities — only 4% cited it as one of their most important issues. 

But the issue was important enough for Kamala Harris to vow to send taxpayers the bill for sex change operations for illegals and convicted criminals. That mean Mr. Mustard ran “attention-grabbing ads attacking Ms. Harris as a radical on the issue,” the NY Times pouts. Maybe because the lady was a radical on the issue. The NY Times poll acknowledged that “Just 18% of Americans believe transgender female athletes — those who were male at birth — should be allowed to compete in women’s sports. Nearly 80% say they should not.”

 More Woke than Ben Wikler?

Or consider this Brave New Worldspeak: “On social issues, Republicans have also gone after attempts to increase racial diversity.” That’s how the sponsors of The 1619 Project avoid spitting out the term “diversity, equity, and inclusion.” Even confronted with such sanitized wording, 48% of poll respondents want DEI to DIE as opposed to 47% who disagree.

Blaska’s Bottom Line: If Democrats want to claw their way back, they might want to break their habit of identity politics pandering. Wisconsin’s own boy wonder, Ben Wikler, recently promised Democrats that if elected Democrat(ic) National Committee chairman:

Our leadership team will lift up our full coalition — with Black, Latino, Native, AANHPI, LGBTQ, Youth, Interfaith, Ethnic, Rural, Veteran, and Disability representation.

Dave Zweifel and Mark Pocan may have the progressive code book to unravel the acronyms. The majority of voters are just so fed up with WOKE, they were willing to overlook Trump’s role in the January 6 insurrection four years ago. Apparently.
