Should do something special, given this Independence Day is the 250th. Maybe work our worry beads over the state of the union. Seems we’re more divided as a nation than when the tall ships sailed in 1976. Already absorbed the 12 hours of Ken Burns’ American Revolution, time to bone up on the one in Russia, 1917.
Today’s Democrat(ic) party is a civil war zone. Socialist revolutionaries are storming the winter palace. During that party’s primary election last week, New York booed one of its own, congressional leader Hakeem Jeffries. (When did that guy become too moderate?) Backed by the new socialist mayor of New York, three social democrats purged more mainstream Democrats — two of them incumbents. One of them actually F-bombed Kamala Harris.
In San Francisco, the putative successor to Nancy Pelosi — a Jewish gay man — is hounded out of an LGBTQIA+ event by pro-Palestinian zealots who wouldn’t last 10 minutes in Gaza. (Watch the video)
Rep. Rashida Tlaib, a democratic socialist, denounced the sentences handed down to nine Antifa members for the ambush and attempted murder of a Texas police officer. U.S. Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed is leading Michigan Democrats after campaigning with virulent anti-Semite Hasan Piker. Wisconsin’s Francesca Hong, the democratic socialist campaigning for governor as a Democrat, eagerly accepted Piker’s invitation to spew on his program.
One of NYC Mayor Mamdani’s socialists, Darializa Avila Chevalier, has called for “seizing the means of production,” along with abolishing police, prisons and borders. So has Francesca Hong.
One day after Hamas’ attack on Israel Chevalier attended a pro-Palestinian rally in Times Square praising the attack. Democratic socialists — it’s in their platform — are “pro-Palestine.” Another way of saying anti-Israel.
For the sin of endorsing Kamala Harris, The Nation (John Nichols’ day job) took after A.O.C., “for carrying water for the people committing the most severe crime of the 21st century,” meaning Israel, of course. When A.O.C. is too moderate, you know the Democrat(ic) party is in trouble.
Too few Democrats are standing up for freedom
Former Obama staffer Van Jones is an exception:
“I used to be on the left side of Pluto but to have somebody whose main qualification for being in our party is celebrating the day after the October 8 murder of innocent Israelis … that there should be no police, no prisons, that Israel shouldn’t exist is a red flashing light. … The Democratic Socialists of America, they have ground troops.” — Van Jones on CNN
Some House Democrats are pushing back. “We are capitalist, not socialist. We want safety, not lawlessness … we are proud, we not ashamed, of America.” How many Democrats signed on? Ten — 10 out of 212 Democrats in the House!
Mark Pocan (D-Hamas) is not among them. Neither is Rebecca Cooke, challenging Derrick Van Orden in Wisconsin’s La Crosse/Eau Claire congressional district. Nor The Capital Times, Tony Evers, or any of the Democrats running for statewide office. They may swallow hard, but they’ll take Francesca Hong and her socialism, cop bashing, and “river to the sea” dog whistling in a Faustian bargain to win at any price. Like Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT):“The voters have spoken and right now they are demanding our party be bolder.”
If they read history they would know the Bolsheviks fed on the less radical Mensheviks first.
Blaska’s Bottom Line: What Democrat, what Republican, will write to that Jewish Congregation in Newport RI, as George Washington did, proclaiming: ”May the children of the stock of Abraham who dwell in this land continue to merit and enjoy the good will of the other inhabitants – while every one shall sit in safety under his own vine and fig tree and there shall be none to make him afraid.”
