How much progressivism is too much?
We’ve always said Trump Derangement System works both ways. Trump is permitted to alienate otherwise persuadable voters because MAGA loyalists, suffering from reverse TDS, won’t call him to account. Did Senate Democrats threaten the President with reprisals if he backed the scandal-plagued Ken Paxton, who could well lose Texas? Doesn’t sound like it.
If Democrats lose the governor’s mansion this year, as I think likely, it will be because of their own version of reverse Trump Derangement Syndrome. They’re afraid to challenge the worst excesses of their party. Candidates like Francesca Hong make Kamala Harris look like Margaret Thatcher.
Hong defends being soft on crime
Wisconsin Democrats are rolling over for Francesca Hong. Especially here in Madison, where socialist PR man John Nichols apparently calls the shots at The Capital Times. Where is my old boss, Dave Zweifel, in all of this? How could a good ol’ farm boy from New Glarus justify entering Maxwell Smart’s Cone of Silence when confronted with a full-on socialist, defund-the-cops race baiter like Francesca Hong? Hong is no Gaylord Nelson, Mr. Zweifel.
How is it that the editor emeritus sings not a discouraging word about expelling a 42-ton glacial boulder from the University of Wisconsin’s Madison campus after the inanimate rock was absurdly accused of racism? Can anyone miss the whiff of McCarthyism in the university’s rendering of civil rights leader and Academy Award winning actor Fredric March as a non-person?
Call it reverse Progressive Derangement Syndrome. Speak no ill of a fellow Democrat.
Hong reads like an SNL parody
of late-stage, Woke progressivism. How many times must her claim be disproved that that poverty causes crime? Except for the occasional drug lord, it’s the other way around. Her first-stated concern is that the populace “be safe from the abuses of power.” The same specious case Police Oversight Board chairman Maia Pearson makes to the independent police monitor she hired!
• Speaking of the police monitor, Aeiromique Glass lost her Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) discrimination lawsuit against her former employer, the City of Baltimore’s Office of Equity and Civil Rights.
• Dane County Republicans are challenging every Assembly district with any footprint in Dane County — 12 in all, a testament to the diligence of chairman Mike Herl and vice chairman Sandy Bakk.
The socialist contender for the Democratic nomination for governor cannot understand how “our crime rates are falling but our prison population is headed toward record highs.” IT’S BECAUSE THE BAD GUYS ARE IN THE HOOSEGOW, honey chile!

Retired Madison police officer Howard Payne observes that “Defunding the police began with Democrats and now they are trying to reframe what it means.” Of Hong he says, “If you want rampant fraud, higher taxes, empty jails, defunded police departments, then this is your candidate.”
Blaska’s Bottom Line: Maybe Dave Zweifel is good with all that whether or not Ms. Hong is the strongest candidate.
