We’re hanging with Hong

Our best hope to elect a Republican governor!

We gave up on the Badger basketballers Wednesday night. They were down 35 to 15 when we switched off the 13-inch b&w Philco (SORCERY!) shortly before half time. We missed “fifth-year guard” Nick Boyd draining a two-pointer with one second before intermission. Our men in shorts continued their furious comeback in the second half to win 67 to 63! 

We have that same effect on politics. No sooner had Blaska Policy Werkes given a full-throated endorsement to Josh Schoemann for governor than the guy up and quits — before halftime! Donald Trump’s endorsement of Tom Tiffany may have had something to do with it, too. We thought Schoemann the better general election candidate but unlikely to survive the Republican primary, Trump or not.

We’re good with Major Tom

Tiffany is a better candidate than any of the eight Democrats, unless you want Madison-level spending and “reimagining law enforcement,” statewide. Mano a mano against a Democrat in November, the Trump endorsement still sounds like the tin cans the POWs attached to Peter Graves in Stalag 17. Just ask Brad Schimel, Eric Hovde, and Tim Michels — all of whom received the kiss of … MAGA!

At least Republicans will not replicate Quentin Tarantino’s Mexican stand-off in Reservoir Dogs, where the entire cast shoots each other dead. Only after a bruising Republican primary could a battered and depleted Tommy lose to Tammy for U.S. senator in 2012. We suspect that Democrats will bleed each other out in the same way.

Nominate an honest-to-gawd socialist!

Which is why we are voting Francesca Hong in the Democrat(ic) primary August 11. You can do that in Wisconsin’s open primary system. The legal term is “Causing Mischief.” 

Mizz Hong has raised good money; of the eight Democrats, her $369,873 is not terribly behind leading fundraiser David Crowley’s $800,949. (He is Milwaukee County executive.) We’re more impressed that candidate Hong has pulled donations from at least twice as many donors as her nearest Democrat(ic) rivals.

Mizz Hong shares the far-left lane only with Mandela Barnes but the former lieutenant governor is still blamed for blowing a winnable U.S. Senate race against Ron Johnson. Theoretically, in an eight-way race, 13% could win. Democrats did clear the field for Barnes in 2022 — a mistake they are unlikely to duplicate this time.

Rep. Hong can do the same against Tom Tiffany — blow a winnable race. Who else calls The Tavern League the “C-word” — in bibulous Wisconsin?! Represents Madison’s Isthmus in the State Assembly — ground zero for Trump-deranged progressives. Ms. Hong is Wisconsin’s Zohran Mamdani, A.O.C., and Ilhan Omar from the river to the sea (or Lake Michigan).

Blaska’s Bottom Line: Democrats elected The Donald by putting up border Czar Kamala Harris and Tampon dispenser Tim. Wisconsin is purple, not pink. We love our Old Fashioneds, venison brats, and buzzer beaters!
