Disagreement is not evil

in a working democracy.

My fellow Republicans lose the argument when they call our political adversaries schoolyard names like “Demon-rats.” Progressives might be more credible if they would dial back the hyperbole. Donald Trump is not Hitler — not even close. Nor does the President represent the “end of democracy,” Gov. Pritzker. Like the idiots who burn flags, you are telling the world you’re out of intellectual ammunition. Worse, you’re slippering the slope for those hunkered down into their own, paranoid echo chambers — like that young assassin in Utah.

“Part of the reason we have arrived at this moment is because a lot of people have decided that in their righteousness, all others who disagree are evil,” counsels Erick Woods-Erickson. Bearing impeccable conservative credentials, he punctures an almost definitional MAGA delusion:

On January 6, 2021, a Capitol Hill police officer shot and killed Ashley Babbit. Security camera footage shows a mob trying to break through a door. … The officer shot her to protect the fleeing members of Congress. He did his job. Babbit was NOT on the side of the good guys that day. She, a veteran of the United States military, died as part of a mob.

Ruy Teixeira does the same from the Left at the Liberal Patriot. Former Madison WI mayor Dave Cieslewicz also calls balls & strikes (albeit from his own strike zone). Can we be more clear-eyed than, say, that poor deluded manchild on the rooftop?

It’s paranoia, not treason

‘There is a tremendous amount of disinformation.’ — Gov. Spencer Cox, R-Utah

The deep dark web of which Governor Cox warns has manufactured “evidence” that attorney general Bill Barr committed treason, as absurd as that sounds. His dues for denying the Stolen Election myth! Only after John McCain crossed Trump did the tinfoil hats discover the heroic POW committed treason during his long captivity. The Werkes hereby issues a linguistic fatwah against the promiscuous use of the word “traitor” as a label for any criticism of the President.

Progressives wear their own Reynolds Wrap. In the aftermath of Charlie Kirk’s assassination, the Left “cannot put truth over tribe,” Woods-Erickson writes.

Leftwing social media influencers … and others rushed to insisted there was no possible way the assassin could be on the left. Progressive activists … pushed out an FEC financial disclosure showing a donation from a Tyler Robinson to Donald Trump in 2020. It was the wrong Tyler Robinson from the wrong town in Utah. It did not matter. — “Tribe over Truth

Deep State, QAnon paranoids — the same species that blames Jews for 9/11, now libel Netanyahu for Charlie’s blood. Different room, but in the same dark place visited by the lamentable Tyler Robinson.

Blaska’s Bottom Line: Lincoln kept looking for generals who would fight until he found Grant. We like that Trump fights! Like Charlie Kirk, even our war-time Presidents knew they had to win converts to the cause. FDR persuaded the American people, LBJ couldn’t. Paranoia won’t. Big funeral planned for Sunday 09-21-25 at the pro football stadium in greater Phoenix.

Will extremists turn Charlie into their Horst Wessel?

Did Blaska turn January 6th into the burning of the Reichstag?
    Yes.

    1. David Blaska Avatar

January 6 was more like Kristallnacht. And the Proud Boys, Oath Keepers, and other True Believing smashers did that, not Blaska. But thanks for making my case. The Nazis burned the Reichstag, then blamed their political opponents. Like you are doing.

Still no answer to Ray Epps (other than ha ha Ray Epps) and the other agent provocateurs that were there and on video that day.

I don’t understand the lack of curiosity about it from you. Same with your claim of “Stolen election myth”. How would you know it’s a myth when you can’t even provide any evidence that your own vote counted? Maybe Al Gore (the O.G. of stolen election claims) was right. How would you prove otherwise? You can’t.

Looking forward to your column on “the Jesus myth”.

BTW your fellow blogger has doubled down on Trump being a Nazi fascist. So much for balls and strikes.

        1. David Blaska Avatar

Blaming a guy named “Ray Epps” instead of accepting responsibility for a criminal act is proto-typical paranoid transference.

Like I said “oh ha ha Ray Epps”. Criminal act yes, an “Insurrection” … no. You blindly trust the government even in the face of all the evidence against doing so.

        3. David Blaska Avatar

I trust my own lying eyes and ears. It’s all on video, from multiple sources, attested to by multiple on-scene witnesses, confirmed my several hundred guilty pleas and jury verdicts. There is no evidence to the contrary — only pathetic “what abouts” from apologists like you.

    Kristallnacht:
    91 Jews were murdered
    30,000 were sent to camps
hundreds of synagogues were burned down
thousands of Jewish businesses were looted
German fire and police were told to stand down unless non Jewish structures burned.

    January 6th
    thirty windows were broken
    carpets were muddied
    Nancy Pelosi’s podium was moved
Ashli Babbit was shot in the face and killed for what, David?

Pre TDS you knew that Conservatives did not and do not radicalize. You knew that radicals were never Conservatives.
That you can put Charlie Kirk and Horst Wessel in the same question is stunning.

That you can say I am Nazi like is beyond belief.
    You used to know better.

Now compare YOUR comparison of the burning of the Reichstag to 1/6. You can do it, but Blaska can’t, eh??

No. YOU compare an apple to a watermelon. I don’t do that.
And I did not do it I said David did.

      2. madisonexpat Avatar
        madisonexpat

Reportedly Boelter had been named to some minor commission by Gov. Tim Walz and was trying to get a better gig but the DFL folks didn’t approve it. If true that would make it personal.

          patrickmoloughlin

Reportedly? If True? In other words, this is your conspiracy theory. I’m sure it will fly with your crowd. But let me get this straight. YOU know the REAL reason why a guy you “never heard of,” committed a double murder? Wow, that’s impressive. From “don’t know a thing about it” to “case solved” in sixty seconds. And of course, MAGA comes out clean because it was “personal.” As if being personal severs his MAGA connection.

    3. David Blaska Avatar

You forgot to mention the hundreds of injured police. Forgot “Hang Mike Pence.” Forgot the purpose was to violate the Constitution in order to overturn a presidential election. Or maybe you didn’t forget. Maybe you’ve created your own reality.

Yeah now its worse than Kristallnacht.
        Stop digging.

        1. David Blaska Avatar

Where did I say it was worse than Kristallnacht? (Answer: nowhere.) The busted glass, the intimidation make J6 a closer comparison than the Reichstag fire, which was done to scapegoat the Jews and justify dictatorship. A better comparison: J6 was more akin to the failed beer hall putsch in Munich. An attempt to seize power

The conservatives are all in a tizzy about this because; (1) they lost their major megaphone and their golden goose money machine. Amazing how they are all on a first name basis with Kirk. Better not say anything bad about Trump Dave, he will sue you for 1000,00000000,0000000000,00000000000.49 dollars. Don’t worry. One Eye will front you the cash.

      Mordecai The Red

Pay attention and you’d realize that it’s a lot more than conservatives who were angered and horrified by Kirk’s assassination and what it represents. Plenty of center-left voices, including some I know personally, are realizing that leftist rhetoric has enabled and endorsed political violence and that it needs to stop. Some on the right need to tone it down too, but it cannot be rationally argued that the two sides are the same.

I was on the fence between McCain and Obama until the day I came home and lo and behold there was a message on my answering machine (remember those?) from none other than John McCain!

The man sounded like he was on his deathbed! I imagine his staff exhorted him to do another take but McCain the legendary asshole he was refused. I settled on Obama that day.

Today they’d just run it through an AI and make him sound young and fresh.

patrickmol… You assert that the killer of the DFL family in MPLS was MAGA. Why?
Then you probably believe Juicy Smolliet, as Dave Chappelle terms him, was also assaulted by MAGA hat wearing desperadoes. It is well known to your ilk that Chicago and MPLS are teeming with MAGA supporters. And that they burned Lake St Liquors a police precinct and a McDonald before defunding the police in MPLS. Oh wait…

You ascribe a belief in conspiracies to me then excoriate MAGA supporters.
