He braved the mob at Columbia U!
America needed Washington, cherry tree or not. The Head Groundskeeper needs his heroes, too. Preferably living. Glued to a page in his childhood scrapbook is a photograph of his first crush, Corkie and her dog, White Shadow. Serialized on the Mouseketeers TV program in 1956. (Buddy Ebsen played the father!)
IMDB Featured Review: Freckle-faced, buck-toothed Darlene Gillespie, whose rampant enthusiasm masked an envy for Annette Funicello, Uncle Walt’s personal favorite, hams it up throughout this series. The albino dog is good, whines on cue.
They’re not making heroes like Corkie these days. The Proud Boys are criminals, not hostages. AOC is an SNL parody. R.I.P. Ronald Reagan. After Tommy Thompson, Tony Evers quickens no hearts. We are uncircling November 5 on our calendars, saddled as we seem to be with two most dismal Presidential candidates since Harding versus Cox. One of them seethes at the criminal defendant’s table, the other is in assisted living. Where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio, indeed?
But, like we said, we need heroes.
For now, we’re auditioning Mike Johnson. The bookish Speaker of the House of Representatives stared down the GOP’s suicide bomber caucus, the likes of Marjorie Taylor Green and Matt Gaetz. (Robin Vos is doing the same with Janel Brandtjen and Timothy Ramthun here in Wisconsin.)
General Eisenhower quickened hearts when he promised, in his first election campaign: I Will Go To Korea! JFK reached for glory with his phone call to Martin Luther King Jr. in the Birmingham jail. Wednesday 04-25-24, Speaker Johnson went to Columbia University, faced down the mob, and spoke truth to hate.
More impressively, the mild-mannered, bespectacled Speaker turned Superman when confronted by a Republican-hating CNN reporter. Erin Burnett actually praised the mob for shouting down Johnson. “They would not have liked what he had to say.” (Which is why they needed to hear it, Dearie!) She asked why the Speaker of the House of Representatives would go to Columbia University. “Because no one else had the cojones,” Johnson could have responded. A partial transcript of that interview:
Speaker Johnson: If you’re getting endorsed by Hamas, that’s not a good look. Some of these students apparently are unaware of the atrocities of October 7th or they’re denying it. They deny that women and children were brutally raped and murdered, that infants were placed into ovens and cooked alive. … And yet they’re out there waving flags for the very people who committed those atrocities.
Erin Burnett: Do you think that protesting the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, protesting the tens of thousands of innocent people who have died there, is anti-Semitic in and of itself?
Speaker Johnson: There’s always a place for debate in the free exchange of ideas. This isn’t a close call. We have terrorists who preyed upon and attacked viciously and killed many innocent Israelis. And the idea that they would be out here in support of that! Hamas is using civilians as shields for themselves.
“Let’s not equivocate on what’s happening with Hamas and in Gaza. This is a battle … between good versus evil, light versus darkness, civilization versus barbarism.” — Speaker Mike Johnson
They put their operations under hospitals and schools. They are using civilians in a theater of war. … Why would someone blame Israel for trying to stamp out the very terrorist threats that are right there on the doorstep?
Erin Burnett: Many innocent children have died and are dying at Israel’s hands.
Speaker Johnson: But that is not the fault of Israel, it is the fault of the terrorists, the Hamas operators and soldiers, the terrorists who have used these people and put them into harm’s way. Israel, I’m convinced, is doing its very best to prevent civilian casualties. But this is a war, and they’re fighting for their very existence, they are not the aggressors. …
[Erin Burnett claims no police reports of Jewish harassment on campus.]
Speaker Johnson: But you have to speak to these Jewish students who are in fear of their lives, who were cowering in their apartments right now, who are not coming to class. In fact, the administration recognized the threat was so great, they canceled classes. This isn’t a partisan issue. We have to stand unequivocally for the right and the good.
Blaska’s Bottom Line: Can you imagine either Donald Trump or Joe Biden stringing together actual meaningful sentences — subject, verb, and object — with such clarity of thought? Without moral equivocation, triangulation, or obfuscation? Under unfiltered, extemporaneous questioning from a hostile interviewer?
As Bluto Blutarsky said in Animal House:

11 responses to “Speaker Mike Johnson for President!”
“(that many innocent children have died) is not the fault of Israel, it is the fault of the terrorists.”
Lefty’s no stranger to atrocities against children; to wit:
Lesley Stahl (60 Minutes [05/12/1996] interview on U.S. sanctions against Iraq–bolds/caps/italics mine throughout): We have heard that a half million children have died. I mean, that’s MORE CHILDREN THAN DIED IN HIROSHIMA. And, you know, is the price worth it?
SoS Madeleine Albright: “I think that is a very hard choice, BUT THE PRICE, WE THINK, THE PRICE IS WORTH IT.”
Was Albright held accountable for would be called, per a despicable Lefty definition, genocide?
Not exactly.
But she was awarded the Presidential Medal Of Freedom by Hopeless Changey.
Ah Lefty, so MUCH hypocrisy, so little time!
The Gotch
Johnson for President. I can get on board for that. Anything is better than rump or that asshat Noem.
Hell yes – I’d vote for Johnson in a heartbeat. Team him up with Tulsi Gabbard and you’ve got a real ticket.
Debt growing at a trillion dollars every 100 days.
A President Johnson could get that down to 50 days.
Bookish!
There is of course another Johnson that agrees with me:
@SenRonJohnson
Since this $95 billion package doesn’t secure our border and further plunders our children’s future, I’m voting no. Securing our own border before we secure another nation’s seems obvious to me, but apparently it is not to most in Congress.
Despicable Lefty making BOMB THREATS?
We’re shocked…SHOCKED…said no one.
The Gotch
He’s 72 with memory problems. Doesn’t even remember the voicemail. Take a breath Gotch. The only thing shocking is your over reaction and typical response about the left. On the other hand it really isn’t.
Single Parent Households Are One Of The GREATEST INDICATORS Of An IDIOT’S Future Poverty And Substandard Education.
The Gotch
‘Ya gotta love it. Gotch cherry picks an article. Misrepresents said article. Blames the left who had nothing to do with said article and then posts his usual snarky nonsense while clutching his pearls. I’m starting to wonder who really has the “substandard education.”
The “misrepresentation” of despicably felonious Lefty/terrorist threat supplier Joseph B. Quade, (who confesses to getting ‘a little political‘ ”, and A LOT drunk):
“Hey (EH), YOU THINK YOUR BUILDING MIGHT BLOW UP TOMORROW? I don’t think you should have any of your people come to work,”(bolds/caps/italics mine)
The Gotch
I agree that House Speaker Mike Johnson has courage and clarity. Hopefully he no longer believes that our planet is a mere 6000 years old and that humans walked with dinosaurs. (BTW Mike, dinosaur fossils pre-date human existence by millions of years).
Speaking of Young Earthers, are Flat Earthers still around?
