Awaiting that midnight knock on the door

“I didn’t get a harrumph out of that guy,” Governor Lepetomane complained, pointing off camera in Blazing Saddles.

We get party discipline, but it used to be that the candidate sought the approval of the voter. “I’m asking for the vote,” George Dubya would say. This year’s likely Republican nominee demands your fealty or be a marked RINO. #45 and would-be #47 has branded WI Assembly Speaker Robin Vos a Republican In Name Only because he refused to do what Bill Barr, Mike Pence, Brian Kemp, Doug Ducey, Mitch McConnell, and General Mark Milley refused to do, which is to overturn the last presidential election.

The Republican base actively embraces Trump’s grievances; it emulates his pettiness; it supports his childlike inability to accept responsibility. These voters are not sighing in resignation and voting for the lesser of two or three or four evils. They are getting what they want — because they, too, are set on revenge.

Tom Nichols, The Atlantic

General Milley fell afoul of the RITOs for observing that the military swore an oath to the Constitution, not to an individual. No “Heil Trump” for true patriots.

After New Hampshire, the deluge

We are realists here in the Bunker Werkes. Joe Biden won in 2020 (he really did!) by hiding in his crawl space and letting Trump self-destruct. January 6 WAS an insurrection, albeit on a scale of 0.5 to Fort Sumter’s 10. Both ultimately failed but for a time (12 hours in the case of 01-06-21) succeeded. Not a riot! Toppling statues on Madison’s Capitol Square in 2020, Kenosha burning — those were riots! January 6 had a specific purpose; the insurrectionists were very clear about their intention to “Stop the Steal.’ The true RITO believes it was all an FBI plot, an AARP guided bus tour, albeit with broken glass and concussions.

Today, the day after Trump thumped Nikki in New Hampshire 54.5% to 43.4%, we’re reduced to praying for some natural event — a disruption in the Earth’s force field, perhaps a timely time warp. Trump taking a vow of poverty, chastity, and humility. Is an alien abduction too much to ask? Even less likely, Joe Biden is carted off to assisted living, Democrats nominate Gretchen Whitmer, and Republicans get serious about winning in November. Nikki names Chris Christie attorney general.

Blaska’s Bottom Line: We’re crestfallen that saintly Tim Scott clambered aboard Trump’s scaffold. We’ll question the existence of God’s grace if our Nikki surrenders her soul, as well. In times that try this man’s soul, we think of the Ernst Lubitsch movie To Be or Not To Be. After Colonel Ehrhardt invited her to join in with Poland’s WW2 conquerors, the great Carole Lombard replied:

I’m thinking Sen. Scott climbed on board the Trump juggernaut to assume the VP office in the new regime. His compelling life story, squeaky clean character and integrity, proven competence and ability to get fellow Black folks to escape the Dem plantation commend him to the role. His endorsement announcement was masterful Black call and response, and he even fired up the frozen white folks of New Hampshire spectacularly. He’s a realist and knows the Dems will have their lynch ropes out (a la Ben Carson, Herman Cain, Candace Owens and Clarence Thomas) for him. Here’s hoping he conditions accepting his spot on the ticket on Trump nominating Christie as AG.

In a Biden administration? Sure, I can see that.

“January 6 WAS an insurrection, albeit on a scale of 0.5 to Fort Sumter’s 10”

You’re using “insurrection” as it’s used in the 14th amendment section 3?
If so, your J6 score of 0.5 is inflated by .5.

Early morning of the 6 Jan putative “insurrection” a truck arrived loaded with a disassembled full-size gallows, with steps, noose, the whole nine yards; and a crew of four or five clean-cut and respectable-looking young men who speedily and professionally erected it just outside the US Capitol gates. This was the device supposedly intended to “execute” VP Mike Pence for his apostasy in not canceling certification of the Electoral College voting outcomes. Couldn’t possibly be a three-letter-agency false flag op, No Way!

I hear Tim Scott is not planning to stand for reelection to the U.S. Senate. Could Nikki fill that seat? Would the voters of South Carolina want her representation? She seems a little… naggy.

Blaska’s “Insurrection” is on a scale of 1.0 to Smollet’s “This is MAGA country!”

So now Trump says he will “blacklist” Haley donors from the MAGA nation. “We won’t take them.” Brilliant I say, just brilliant. The man is a Master of Politics!

Does that mean that if I give her some money, he’ll stop send me texts for donations? I only ask because I’ve been responding STOP for 3 years now and that doesn’t work.

Meg Whitman (long time Republican) was CEO of HP when she famously switched teams and endorsed Hillary Clinton in 2016. Quite sure she had the furnishings all picked out for her Cabinet office. Oopsies.

Anyway when Trump had a tech summit at the White House early in his presidency all the big companies were invited… except for HP.

Whitman went on to helm the legendary failure Quibi.

And that was all perfectly understandable, you can even say warranted. She switched parties and bet on the wrong horse.

This is a Republican party PRIMARY. You do have to pull your punches sometimes. Normally (Ha!), you have to bring those Republicans into your fold. Not Trump. His girlfriend Kari Lake once told a room full of Arizonians, “We don’t have any John McCain Republicans in here, do we? You need to leave now!” Because you know, a whole different bunch of other idiots elected him to the Senate 5 times.

Until Trump came along to reset the rules, it was allowable to have intraparty disagreements. It was allowable to run against other Republicans, often all the way to the convention. No more. Not only do you have to endorse Trump, but you must also blindly support anything that pops into that very stable, genius brain of his. But when you change the rules, it can have unintended consequences. An interesting stat in the exit polls was that Haley got 43%. But even more interesting was over 50% of those voters would never vote for Trump, ever. But hey, who needs them, right? Trump has the votes to spare, I’m sure. It will be a smaller but purer party.

In his January 16 post Blaska suggested that Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-Green Bay) is one who says Trump is unfit for office. I doubt that.

While Gallagher was one of the few Republicans who squarely blamed Trump for the January 6 insurrection when it was in progress, Mikey surely wants to get re-elected.

What will Gallagher do about his conscience? Endorse Trump.

    1. brynstane Avatar

Considering Mr. Trump’s success in turning the putative 2022 midterm red wave into red rout, hopefully Rep. Gallagher will graciously decline Mr. Trump’s assistance, if offered.

For better or worse, Mikey is my US Rep. He had his 15 minutes of spine immediately after the Jan. 6 insurrection. He has been silent since. I’m sure if you asked him face-to-face (which you can’t), he would mumble something about “holding China accountable”, turn on his heel and walk away.

For those who won’t acknowledge that Jan 6 was an attempt to overthrow a legitimately elected government, I ask you to talk to someone who was there that day about the violence of the crowd. Start with Hawley, a treasonous coward of the first degree. Then talk to police, staffers, etc that were threatened and injured for doing their job.

Give ’em Hell, Dave. We finally agree on something.

Do that, then talk to observers/survivors of 9-11 and Pearl Harbor (to which half-witted Lefty morons [forgive the triple redundancy] compared it) and see what they say.

HeyZeus Alou, the comfort you display with irredeemably suffocating cluelessness is positively breathtaking!

If you want a classic ridiculous statement, check out your orange-haired, girdle-wearing wannabe dictator who claims that he is treated worse than Lincoln. And that Lincoln only had to deal with a “little civil war”, whereas herr trump has to deal with political persecution. Poor baby.
