Passing conservative legislation & winning elections!
Adrianne Melby, N.c. Bill Gillette, and the rest of the Trump-humping Adam Steen crowd can cry all they want about Robin Vos. But gawddamn, the Speaker of the Wisconsin Assembly delivers the goods!
If the Election Deniers had their druthers (whatever those are!) they would emulate Matt Gaetz in the U.S. House of Representatives and drag the Wisconsin Republican down from the state Assembly Speakers chair and plunge conservative government into the same disrepute and disarray. But Vos has sidelined the two most Gaetz-like bomb throwers in the state Assembly, those being Janel Brandtjen and Timothy Ramthun. The latter garnered all of 6% of the last Republican gubernatorial primary. Blaska popped into his hospitality room at the 2022 state Republican convention. Ramthun’s special guest: one of the whackier conspiracy mongerers, the My Pillow guy!

Trump, it appears, may have laundered tens of thousands of dollars through a couple county Republican parties outside the Racine County district on behalf of Adam Steen’s ultimately failed bid to take down Vos. The allegation is being investigated. Steen was the only state legislator to get Trump’s cursed endorsement. The Speaker’s sin: he refused to overturn the not-stolen 2020 presidential election.
Here’s an evil thought!
U.S. House Republicans should nominate Matt Gaetz for Speaker then vote him down 213 to 8.
Given Jim Jordan’s history of throwing TNT, [Republican] moderates likely worry he would lead the House in the same fashion, imperiling their jobs and the Republican majority … [by] electing Mr. Jordan to be a MAGA Speaker.
With each turn of the screw, the eight Republicans who deposed Mr. McCarthy look more foolish all the time. They didn’t have a plan for what to do next. They didn’t have an alternative candidate for Speaker. What kind of an idiot mutineer takes over the man-of-war, tosses the captain overboard, and then spends two weeks pulling ropes at random, hoping like hell that the thing will somehow drift ashore before the supplies run out?

Brandtjen and Ramthun are irrelevant because they are not needed amid the party’s 64-35 majority, an advantage Vos built even as our Trump-shackled candidate for governor, Tim Michels, lost to Tony Evers.
Vos Republicans are:
• Keeping the Brewers in Milwaukee, a city that needs major league baseball as an economic engine and a brand builder.
• Cutting $2 billion income taxes with a $5,200 tax credit for child care.
• Prohibiting sex-change surgery and medication for children.
• By withholding faculty pay raises, pressuring the bloated university system to excise $32 million worth of over-paid diversity, equity, and inclusion guilt-trippers.
• Advocating for Iowa-style legislative district mapping. (Which they wouldn’t do if gerrymandering explained their majority.)
• Encouraging education reform by allowing parents — especially of minority race — to choose alternatives to failed public schools.
Blaska’s Bottom Line: Evers will veto some of this good stuff but that’s on the Democrats.

School choice most definitely helps low-income households and their children.

I am shocked that Gaetz is concerned about a 33 trillion dollar debt.
DAMN BOMB THROWER!
“spends two weeks pulling ropes at random,” (bolds mine0
Not that anyone at the WSJ would know the difference, but cowboys use rope, sailors/seamen/fishermen use lines
“pressuring the bloated university system to excise $32 million worth of over-paid diversity, equity, and inclusion guilt-trippers”
Gosh, why would ANYONE want to derail the wildly popular DIE gravy train?
Who indeed; to wit:

Humm, we must be thinking of different Robin Vosses.
The Voss I know was not the exemplar paragon of virtue you describe fighting the good fight against all crazies, but originally fell into line with Trump on denying the 2020 election by appointing our dear Gableman to uncover the election fraud, and gave him $2 million dollars for this charade.
don’t forget his secret panels who are now in court for not releasing their information.
Remind me: how does my tax dollars going to renovate the Brewers stadium benefit this non-Milwaukee resident, non-baseball fan?
Other than the stadium foolish, I stand on principle against corporate welfare for sports teams. It almost perfect record.
Clarification on the UW raises: They are not withholding raises only for faculty (who typically make more money). It’s for all UW employees. My kid works at UW as a research specialist, an entry level position on the lower rungs of the pay scale. She is being penalized as well as thousands of other employees who have nothing to do with DEI. Is that okay?
