The UW — where Woke goes to the head of the class!
Where have you heard this before? School board candidate says hold the line on spending to relieve local property tax payers. School district superintendent holds a knife to your kid’s band class and hockey team. That’s what the president of the University of Wisconsin System is doing.
Cut Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Republican legislators, and we close campuses, the system president threatened. Likely (but unsaid) in Republican districts. And your little dog dies, too.
Assembly Speaker Robin Vos wants to cut millions — originally pegged at $16 million, now upped to $32 million — from the UW System budget that goes for DEI. UW budget money is fungible — there’s no line item authority — so system President Jay Rothman could well cut a campus, instead.
Gov. Tony Evers threatens to veto the entire state budget if DEI is cut.
Speaker Vos spelled DEI as “division, exclusion, and indoctrination” at last weekend’s Republican State Convention in La Crosse. Vos said one professor told him his salary depended on injecting DEI into the classroom. “DEI is the new religion of the Left,” he said.
“This is the single most important issue we face as a people.” — Republican Speaker Vos.
Might sound like hyperbole but think about it — DEI and the critical race theory that animates it teach victimhood and resentment. How else to explain hauling away an inert, 42-ton glacial boulder from the Madison campus? Critical race theorists accused it of racism!
At this point in today’s thrilling episode, let’s take notice of Juneteenth, the federal holiday that celebrates deliverance to the last of the enslaved news that they had been freed by a Republican president.
We used the word “celebrate” — so why the bloodshed? Six teenagers shot after one “celebration” in Milwaukee. One person was killed and 22 others wounded at a Chicago suburb “in a peaceful Juneteenth celebration turned deadly.” (CNN can’t kick the oxymoronic chyron, can they!)
Across the nation, “Shootings on Juneteenth weekend leave at least 12 dead, more than 100 injured,” CBS reports.
Blaska’s Bottom Line: UW system president Rothman says 10 of the System’s 13 four-year campuses are looking at a combined $60 million deficit. Democrats want to shift $30 billion of national student debt annually over the next ten years onto diligent taxpayers. Which means college costs too much for too little return. Congress keeps raising the debt ceiling. But Jay Rothman won’t cut the 1619 Project?

To the in control Republicans……..stop playing Evers pickle ball, step up and play hardball. If they threaten to close a campus, let them. Do you think they would actually see a closing to fruition? Stop any and all DEI funding. As a taxpayer I demand it.

There is so much bloat and fluff in the UW budget. If DIE is that import than they will find the money elsewhere. Unfortunately not in gender or women’s studies.

Speaking of cutting budgets, why didn’t R’s think of that during fozconn or the gableman fiasco. We’ll be paying for both for years to come with absolutely no benefit to the taxpayers of WI.
how will be paying for Gabelman for years? And paying for Foxconn was dependent on them meeting milestones, which they did not. Thus, they were not paid. Save your whining for when you have some real cheese…..

I’m sorry you haven’t kept up with this projects and the fiscal impact they have on we the taxpayers. So here is a short lesson for today. And we have real cheese up here, and are willing to share.
The vos-gableman fiasco has cost the state $~2.2+ million so far, including $1.2 million or so to private attorneys to defend the bozos, all at taxpayer expense. There are at least 5 active lawsuits that are far from settled and won’t be for years.
The state and locals spent millions on infrastructure: WDOT – $168M for transportation facilities; WDOT – $60M transferred from statewide local roads program to foxconn campus: Mount Pleasant and Racine County – $808M committed to utility infrastructure. Most, if not all, of this is bonded $$, meaning taxpayers are on the hook for years to come.
And ATC is sticking around $256M electrical transmission facilities paid for by ratepayers, not foxconn.

LOL. and that infrastructure is just sitting there doing nothing? Last I saw, Foxconn had a facility, and what it didn’t fill in is being filled in with other industry that is going top use that infrastructure. But nice try at obsfucation. The gotch was right…..

Sure there is foxconn infrastructure sitting out there. Mostly unused. And not filled with highly paid WI workers like foxconn, walker and trump promised. Remember the old “Eighth Wonder of the World” crap. Nobody believed that.

Surely they can find an accounting error to fix the deficit.
Supreme Court will rule on Biden’s authority to forgive student loans and repayments are finally starting up again soon. There’s gonna be a lot of pissed off people.
I hope their anger is finally directed at the appropriate places – the federal government, the universities with their bloated administrations and all the people who blanketly advise that college is an economic win.

Start looking for bloat at UW. 18 coaches and 22 support staff and that’s just football. I know collage sports in Wis is the golden calf, but I think we can get rid of the assistant jock strap coach and not forfeit a game.
