John Patrick Hunter was a West Virginia native who took Bill Proxmire’s place as a reporter for The Capital Times here in Madison WI. On July 4, 1951, the young reporter circulated a petition on Madison’s Capitol Square — a word-for-word reprint of the preamble to the Declaration of Independence. Only one citizen of the 112 he approached dared sign it during the height of Joe McCarthy’s anti-communist crusade. (There were squirrels in the woods even if Tailgunner Joe couldn’t shoot straight.)
As a young reporter ourselves, we knew John 30 years later — a true iconoclast. Civil War buff, tea-drinking Unitarian (“We pray to Whom It May Concern”), an Eleanor Roosevelt, Americans for Democratic Action-style liberal — but fair-minded. John would pull out his driver’s license and point to the category of race, wherein he listed “Negro.” Thankfully, WI driver’s licenses no longer carry the category.
Which is the ultimate answer to the challenge to race-based college admissions now before the U.S. Supreme Court. Because if you bias in favor of one racial grouping, you discriminate against another less favored. We get it: To hell with white male heterosexuals! Now come those pushy Asian-American immigrants and their constant striving for success! Tell ’em to take a number!
In a 2003 case, Justice Sandra Day O’Connor speculated that racial preferences wouldn’t be needed in 25 years. The former justice did not account for the ascendance of critical race theory.
Anyone who knows anything about the men and women who run today’s universities, and how they believe racism is “systemic” in American life, knows that the schools will never stop using preferences.

Dane County’s abortion referendum is a lie
The advisory referendum asks: “Should Wisconsin Statute 940.04, which bans abortion at any stage of pregnancy without exception for rape, incest, or health of the patient, be repealed to ensure legal access to abortion care?” But Section (5)(a)(b)(c) of the statute permits abortion “to save the life of the mother.”
The same people who believe (or want to) that Trump tried to dissuade the January 6 insurrectionists have Glomped onto the canard that Paul Pelosi and the intruder were gay lovers engaged in a drunken spat. That tale originated in a website that also postulated that Nancy Pelosi was killed on January 6 (2021) and Democrats are now using a body double!

Blaska’s Bottom Line: U.S. Sen. Rick Scott, R-FL, proposes eliminating race questions from any federal questionnaire, including the U.S. Census. We so move! In the meantime, if asked your race, enter “Negro.” After all, what is Tiger Woods but golf player for the ages?!

Watched some law prof. from the U of VA on teevee tying himself in knots while trying to explain that while Supreme Court justices have been saying for decades that there should be a time limit for AA, there’s no point in the foreseeable future that the US would be “equitable” enough to end it (at least as far as he could tell). Can you think of any other bloated, expensive left-wing government boondoggle that just faded away because it was no longer needed? Why should AA be any different? Colleges and universities are still treating women as a “protected” (i.e., professional victim) class even though women students outnumber men–often by double digits–at most institutions of higher learning.

This is a more than interesting method of internet trolling that doesn’t require any regular typing, it’s signature significant of a internet stalker trying to provoke confrontation. I tried to reach out to a number of legislators and my representative clerks about the lie put on the Dane County referendum, and everybody pointed out that they could not do anything as the Dane County Board controls the wording. So the old Twitter can block truths that they don’t like, but we are powerless to stop an outright lie on our ballot?
