“I hate it being this way. From my point of view he has been a consequential President. … But today, all I can say is, ‘Count me out!’ Enough is enough!’ ” — Sen. Lindsay Graham, R-S.C. 01-06-21.
There is a way out of this for Republicans. With honor and justice, while healing the nation and preserving Constitutional conservatism to fight another day. But first, the essential Heather Mac Donald:
Pragmatic Trump supporters made the calculation that he was the lesser of two evils. His vindictiveness and narcissism had to be balanced against the alternative of an increasingly militant Left. … Now, any cause championed by Trump, whether border enforcement or color-blind public policy, will be discredited in the view of whatever remains of a moderate, non-woke establishment. …
The only upside one can hope for from these last two months is that Trump will have lost his hold over the future of conservatism. Perhaps someone will emerge who can articulate the ideals of tradition and excellence with the grace that they deserve.

The vaccine against insurrection
Put up a motion to censure Donald J. Trump. Condemn the man for incitement to riot. Call him out for suborning treason to overthrow the government and install a dictatorship. Conclude the resolution by demanding his immediate resignation. (He won’t, but call for it.) Do it Monday 01-11-21. Thinking of you, Sens. Ron Johnson, Ted Cruz , and Josh Hawley. Attention U.S. Reps. Fitzgerald, Tiffany and McCarthy. All six of you speak to America. Sure, tell America that our election laws need serious reform. But tell them the election is over. Tell America we are a nation of laws.
While you’re at it, call out the conspiracists, the Lin Woods, Proud Boys, and the QAnon-amists as no better than militant BLM and Antifa on the other side. Tell the NewsMax/Parler/Lou Dobbs crowd they’ve been duped, taken for fools, lied to. (Jeffrey Epstein really did not hang himself because he’s still alive and blackmailing the Chief Justice?!) Tell America that anyone breaching security for the Inauguration will be greeted with truncheons, rubber bullets, tear gas, and buckshot — in that order.
⇒ Ask Vice President Mike Pence to preside over the Senate during the proceedings.
Censure — swift and unequivocal — may or may not forestall impeachment, which is justified. But impeachment is also terribly divisive and protracted and, quite frankly, we are in no mood to hear Rudy Giuliani in his sad dotage defend the indefensible. Get this over before January 20. Spare the country as Gerald Ford did in 1974 when he courageously pardoned Richard Nixon. That was an act that doomed his election two years later but is hailed as an act of statesmanship today.
Blaska’s Bottom Line: Move to censure, condemn the insurrectionist unreservedly, then call the roll so that we can end this sad chapter in our history.

David wrote, “Put up a motion to censure Donald J. Trump. Condemn the man for incitement to riot. Call him out for suborning treason to overthrow the government and install a dictatorship. Conclude the resolution by demanding his immediate resignation.”
Censuring the President isn’t a bad idea at all; however, if they are going to censure they need valid grounds for such censure and there are no such grounds or facts to support censures. The facts do not support claims that President Trump incited riot or suborned treason.
Consequentialism: the doctrine that the morality of an action is to be judged solely by its consequences.
Consequentialism is unethical which can easily lead people to immoral actions.
I really, really hate the rioting at the US Capitol building but we cannot bastardize the Constitution just to “get” President Trump or so it looks like the Republicans are “doing something”. The ends do not justify the means.

Pay close attention to Alan Dershowitz’s statements at 16:38 – 17:55 in the timeline; censuring should not be weaponized either.
Everyone should watch the entire video I posted above and this one…
Thanks for sharing these, Steve.
Alan Dershowitz is a true liberal and has always been consistent in his messaging.
Trump said nothing to incite this violence. If he did, you would be hearing it nonstop on the so called “news outlets”
I listened to the speech and he urged the crowd to peacefully gather outside the capitol building.
To do what? Protest a constitutional procedure? Toward what purpose? If you tell people the election was stolen, that Biden is not legitimate, that your freedom – guns – religion – vital fluids are at risk — and then go march (cough, cough, “peacefully”) on the Capitol as the Electoral Votes are counted … What Do You Expect?
The cry to “Hang Pence” arose out of the ethers?
David Blaska asked, “To do what? Protest a constitutional procedure? Toward what purpose?”
Note: A member of Congress challenging Electoral College votes from specific states because of perceived problems with the election in those states is also a “Constitutional” procedure and it’s been done before including Democrats challenging Electoral College votes in the not so distant past.
Now to address the completely fair questions directly; here’s the completely fair answers straight from President Trump’s speech and it’s the actual statements of intent for the protest…
To ignore these statements of intent such is not logical.
David Blaska asked, “What Do You Expect?”
I would expect them to protest peacefully and I’m completely certain that that’s what you expect too.
Furthermore; there is no reason to believe that President Trump shouldn’t have expected the exact same thing, after all, President Trump had been talking about and expecting law and order for four years, why would he expect anything different from his own supporters than he expected from others that have protested across the United States?
David Blaska asked, “The cry to “Hang Pence” arose out of the ethers?”
That arose out of the same kind of irrational mob mentality that caused some of the protesters to riot. This is the same kind of irrational mob mentality that has destroyed sections of cities across the United States in “mostly peaceful” protests for a number of years. This protest was yet another one of those “mostly peaceful” protests and the violence was completely unacceptable, those that engaged in violence and broke the law should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law – no exceptions. They shouldn’t be hypocritical or show double standards, they should prosecute them based on the same standard of prosecution that has been used against other violent rioters across the USA, use the same precedent set over the last 4+ years.
These people had every right to peacefully protest for whatever reason they saw fit just like the BLM protesters across the USA can peacefully protest for whatever reason they see fit; we do not have to agree with the reasons for their protest.

trumplegend,

trumplegend = Trolachling (trōl•ăch•lĭng): an internet troll hatchling.
This trumplegend Trolachling needs to be banned.
I left it up to show what we’re up against
Any doubt as to the assholioness of trump is apparent by the flag at the Whitehouse being flown at full staff today. The fact that posters on this site see nothing wrong with lies about the election outcome that started over a year earlier by this republican administration show themselves to be clueless morons. Yes their are ground and their are facts, for the impeachment of trump and the expulsion of Hawley, Cruz, Tiffany and Fitzgerald.
Justice is the first pillar of democracy, so justice must be served in order to heal ( ask a murder victim’s family if they can begin healing without justice ). Those republicans saying an impeachment will further divide the nation and keep us from healing are full of S#!t, and/or enemies of the state.
IMPEACH the Mutha Effer already!
George Parrino wrote, “Yes their are ground and their are facts, for the impeachment of trump and the expulsion of Hawley, Cruz, Tiffany and Fitzgerald.”
Saying these “facts” exist doesn’t make it true.
Present the facts.
Why do you always find the need to repost a comment before you respond? A need to fill up space?
richard -lesiak wrote, “Why do you always find the need to repost a comment before you respond? A need to fill up space?”
I’ve answered this question before; it’s so no one can misinterpret what I am replying to. I will never change this completely appropriate method of replying to others.
Steve’s approach actually provides a much needed public service; repeating/reposting what a commenter says/posts supplies the utterer/poster with an opportunity to hear/read just how staggeringly imbecilic what they said/posted really was.
Most (not all) Lefties say/post things without really engaging an already severely compromised cognitive capacity.
I’m shocked…SHOCKED…said no one!

The Gotch
that sounds like a Ms. Conway quote.
Steve Witherspoon wrote, ” Saying these “facts” exist doesn’t make it true. Present the facts.
Seriously? you’re joking, why weren’t the facts allowed at the Senate impeachment trial, as I recall the republican majority demanded the trial present no evidence nor witnesses.
We have proof of trump calling for violent insurrection(speeches, twitter), we’ve seen republicans, including Hawley and Cruz stepping up to promote and perpetuate a lie, the big lie that the ballots of the people should not be counted. ( Republicans studied Goebbels to the letter). The facts have been presented, maybe not as often as the lie has been presented. Why do these republican not want to keep our republic?
George Parrino wrote, “We have proof of trump calling for violent insurrection(speeches, twitter)”
There you go again saying that we have proof/facts but yet you cannot or will not provide the proof/evidence/facts to support your claim.
Here’s the transcript from Trump’s speech just before the march towards the US Capitol began; you are making the claim that President Trump was calling for a violent insurrection, it’s your job to present the evidence to support that claim.

Name the crime and be specific. Did he incite a riot? Lead an insurrection? Stage a coup d’etat? Erect an insurrection? Commit sedition or treason?
Lotta loose talk around here and more than a little from the Squire.
What should he be censured, pilloried, impeached, shunned or exiled for?
Cite a fact or a quote.
Parrino, poor Richard and Leo can’t help it. They are apparently wired that way but you, Squire, make a better case than someone found seven things that could be construed as assembling a mob and ordering them to dress funny, move Pelosi’s podium, sit in her and the VP’s chairs, break some windows and run around the capitol taking selfies.
Incite a riot? Yes.
Lead an insurrection? Yes.
Stage a coup d’etat? Yes.
Commit sedition or treason? Yes and yes.
As I have done to others on this site now I’m going to ask you to present evidence to support these claims.
Quote his exhortation.
Steve Witherspoon said “Both were ill advised and irresponsible but neither were crimes and neither were inciting riot.”
The potential violation of federal election law centers on a provision that says it is a crime for a person “who in any election for federal office knowingly and willfully deprives, defrauds or attempts to deprive or defraud the residents of a state of a fair and impartially conducted election process.”
But actually I’m glad that you’re OK with an American Iman promoting lies for months and giving speeches at Mosque asking the people to take what they feel is theirs and not suffering any consequences if the capitol was raided, destroyed and people murdered by his muslim followers
George Parrino wrote, “The potential violation of federal election law centers on a provision that says it is a crime for a person “who in any election for federal office knowingly and willfully deprives, defrauds or attempts to deprive or defraud the residents of a state of a fair and impartially conducted election process.” “
Typical progressive argumentation move, first you can’t seem to reply where I actually made that statement, second you can’t support the argument you made so now you try to drag the goalposts into the parking lot and argue a different point.
You are not arguing in good faith.
George Parrino wrote, “But actually I’m glad that you’re OK with an American Iman promoting lies for months and giving speeches at Mosque asking the people to take what they feel is theirs and not suffering any consequences if the capitol was raided, destroyed and people murdered by his muslim followers”
Don’t you dare put false words in my mouth!
I have publicly condemned the riot at the DC Capitol building and stated that the rioters should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law so you can shove your innuendo straight up that place the sun never shines.
Bite me Richard Noggin.
Just start with the two phone calls to Georgia and his speech. The Dems now have the House, the Senate and the Oval Office. Once they set up the committees they will turn over every rock and expose everyone involved. I predict a bunch of early retirements are coming soon.

A witch-hunt to punish political opponents.
This is rapidly heading down a slippery slope to totalitarianism.
Steve,
“A witch-hunt to punish political opponents. This is rapidly heading down a slippery slope to totalitarianism.”
Yes!
True liberals used to be vehemently opposed to this behavior. WTH happened?
Now the left is so blinded by hatred for Trump & his supporters that they’ll applaud as we lose our freedoms. I say “ours” because it’s just a matter of time before leftists find that their voices are also being quashed. The moment they decide to form an independent thought. they will understand what it feels like to be censured, marginalized, and have their livelihoods disrupted.
I weep for this country.
“Ill advised and irresponsible” decisions usually gets you a court date with an angry judge.
Richard Witherspoon wrote “Both were ill advised and irresponsible but neither were crimes and neither were inciting riot.”
Lets try these two shall we:

52 U.S. Code § 20511
It’s tragic to see someone who’s been such a solid and sane voice for so many issues, especially local ones, to succumb to never-Trumpism in such a strong way.
Liberty wrote, “It’s tragic to see someone who’s been such a solid and sane voice for so many issues, especially local ones, to succumb to never-Trumpism in such a strong way.”
The straw that broke the proverbial camel’s back. I suspect that the consequence of the riot at the US Capitol that happened after President Trump’s speech was the straw.
David is welcome to his opinion just like every one of us, I just disagree with the basis for this particular opinion.
“David is welcome to his opinion just like every one of us, I just disagree with the basis for this particular opinion.”
Agreed on both statements.
Name one or as you say STFU. I’ll wait right here.
“There is a way out of this for Republicans … while preserving Constitutional conservatism to fight another day.” I’d be interested in hearing how Republicans (or anyone else horrified at the prospect of the Democrat/Big tech/BLM coalition counting the days until their total takeover of US government) plan to “fight.” Democrats have hit on a winning formula, one so fiendish and brutal it defies description. Does anyone expect them to listen to proposals for making elections more fair and transparent? Their “cleansing” of any peep of opposition, no matter how slight, has already begun. As the old song says, “You ain’t seen nuthin’ yet.”
The way out for republicans…RESIGN. The folks back home all watched this sh%^show and they are angry. A cop murdered and the flag has not been lowered. Calls to hang Pence. The more you people try to sugar-coat this crap the more foolish you look.
maybe the gop should go after trump with the same enthusiasm that they had about Clinton getting a nobjob.
richard -lesiak wrote, “maybe the gop should go after trump with the same enthusiasm that they had about Clinton getting a nobjob.”
That sir is a bald-faced lie.
The GOP went after President Clinton for the criminal offense of lying under oath.
Blindingly ignorant people read a few headlines in their Lefty rags and think they’re informed, and FAR more laughably, think they’re correct.
Lefty’s handlers want them stupid-n-pliable; they’re getting exactly that in spades.
It’s a common rebuttal of the monumentally imbecilic to say the the Former Serial Sexual Predator In Chief was impeached for a consensual header; of course, as you point out, nothing could be farther from the truth.
The Frequent Jeffy Epstein Lolita Express Flyer “willfully provided perjurious, false and misleading testimony to the (Federal) grand jury,” a Federal Judge, and in a Federal civil rights action. This in addition to suborning perjury from his lawyer(s) and numerous witnesses.
In a fact-based Universe these are all serious felonies which carry heavy fines and federal prison time, yet they’re referred to by the generationally brainless as a nobber.

Since no one else brought this up; do you all realize that President Trump also stated the following as part of his speech before the march to the US Capitol…
I know, I know; how dare the President of the United States of America say such an terribly inciteful thing to a crowd of supporters like “peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard”. The horror.
Words have consequences.
P.S. This doesn’t change the fact that President Trump is an asshole.
It’s like Nixon facilitating the Watergate break-in, then adding the CYA statement, “But it would be wrong.”
President Trump’s statement is literally part of a statement of intent where President Nixon’s statement was not a statement of intent it was as statement on the morality of what was previously stated.
These things are literally not similar.
You try to defend your statements with only two sentences cherry-picked from a speech. Look at the 5 years of speeches and tweets. Yeah; beat up protestors, the media, throw Pence to the dogs, on and on. When your followers are chanting HANG PENCE; your VP, it’s time to shut up. But not trump. Even the PGA dumped his ass. ( Let’s all give them the usual polite golf clap for that.)
Listen here Lesiak,
I started this thread by stating that “the facts do not support claims that President Trump incited riot or suborned treason” and I have asked anyone that says otherwise to provide their evidence to support their claims. I have even gone as far as to provide a link to the actual transcript of the speech before the march to the US Capitol building. No one has stepped up and provided any direct evidence that President Trump incited the riot at the US Capitol building, all I get from the ones making the claims is innuendo and accusations.
I have done everything a reasonable debater can do now it’s up to you.
Either you people step up to the plate and back up your claims that President Trump incited the riot or your claims will go down as the genuine fallacies that I believe them to be.
Back up your claims or retract them!
Take Individual Responsibility For How You Debate
I read trump’s speech. The usual lies and pure BS. Hundreds of thousands people are here. LIE. Don Jr. FIGHT FOR TRUMP chanting. Rudy TRIAL BY COMBAT. You have to get your people to fight. The media is fake. The election was stolen from YOU. Pence must do the right thing and confirm me. We are going to march to the capital. Get them straightened out today. So let’s walk down Pennsylvania Ave. You can’t cherry-pick two sentences and call it truth. What we all saw was the sum total of 5 years of trump’s ranting, lying and playing to his crowd. Remember what you head-lined your own blog with? “Just as ripples spread out when a single pebble is dropped into water. The actions of individuals can have far-reaching effects.” That’s my point about trump. And now we all have seen it in real time.
richard -lesiak wrote, “I read trump’s speech.”
Interesting that you would say that and then immediately quote things from others that President Trump did not say in his speech. Richard you’re putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with 4,329 in an effort to unethically justify your immoral conflations and chucking the actual truth “peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard” into the trash heap because it came out of Trump’s mouth.
No Richard, you blithering idiot, all the things that Trump has stated over the last four years is not evidence that Trump is inciting riot. I’d be so bold to say that what set these rioters on the path where they chose to riot is in response to what the Democrats have been doing and gotten away with over the last four years and then they intentionally bastardize or broke the laws in some states in an effort to rig a Presidential election. It’s clear that these rioters felt backed into a corner and they lashed out in an illegal manner but President Trump did not incite riot, these people (small percentage of the whole) chose to riot and they will suffer the consequences for their own actions. None of what President Trump said in his speech was inciting riot, the claim is transparently false.
Rigged: manipulated or controlled by deceptive or dishonest means.
I read it too, and had to take a shower. Such dishonest excrement, that the gullible lap up. (Ew.)
Listen here Witherspoon.. I not going to go picking through all the trash trump dumped out for consumption one word at a time. “you have to get your people to fight”. ???? You what to argue over wordsmithing and intent; go to court. I retract NOTHING and never will. If you want to role play being a defense lawyer; have at it.
This is typical Lesiak/progressive Histrionic Malevolence Syndrome argumentation; accuse and not be able to properly support their accusations. Face it; you morally bankrupt political hacks are suffering from Acute Propaganda-Induced Anti-Trump Hysteria Syndrome.
OK poor Richard can’t put up and won’t shut up.
Next.
Next?
PUT OUT with the rest of the despicable offal!

What’s your problem gotch? You get your monthly disability check and have your never-ending pasta pass so there’s no need for your constant sniping from the side-lines. You really like all the gummint free-s$%t that you get. don’t you.
Yes please, what Steve Witherspoon is saying. Provide_proof_of_incitement_to_violence.
And yes, Trump is his own worst enemy, but all this insurrectionist crap needs to be hosed out of the barn.
Squire? ABob? OB? poor Richard?
Clocks ticking. Steve Witherspoon has stated a direct quote to the contrary of your, so far, baseless accusations;
““We have come to demand that Congress do the right thing and only count the electors who have been lawfully slated, lawfully slated. I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard.” DJT
Your turns.
What proof do you have that they were NOT lawfully slated?
Lesiak,
You sir are not arguing in good faith, you’re trolling.
where’s your proof?
I wrote, “Lesiak, You sir are not arguing in good faith, you’re trolling.”
richard -lesiak wrote, “where’s your proof?”
GOOD FAITH: A “Good Faith” argument or discussion is one in which both parties agree on the terms on which they engage, are honest and respectful of the other person’s dignity, follow generally-accepted norms of social interaction, and genuinely want to hear what the other person thinks and has to say.
TROLLING: starting flame wars or intentionally upsets people on the Internet. Typically they do this by posting inflammatory and digressive, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a newsgroup, forum, chat room, or blog), with the intent of provoking readers into displaying emotional responses and normalizing tangential discussion. This is typically for the troll’s amusement, or to achieve a specific result such as disrupting a rival’s online activities or manipulating a political process.
Richard’s comments or portions of comments that support my claim…
And last but not least…
ALL trolling is not arguing in good faith and your comments fall within the confines of trolling. You are posting inflammatory and digressive, extraneous, or off-topic messages in a blog with the intent of provoking readers into displaying emotional responses and normalizing tangential discussion.
I rest my case.
Richard,
How does the lint between your toes taste.
Dipspoon:
I believe Richard is repeating his query originally made to Spat. Where is your proof the electors were not lawfully slated? Answer: you have none. This is just The Big Lie. But thanks for cluelessly providing all the pointless definitions. Now, come back at me with more of your so-full-of-yourself bilge, followed by a petty personal insult.
Exhibit A) “Dipspoon:”
Exhibit B) “Now, come back at me with more of your so-full-of-yourself bilge, followed by a petty personal insult. (bolds mine)

Stop trolling.
Bite me troll.
Yes. By all means, let’s avoid divisiveness. Your own blog is a shining light penetrating the fog of division in our city, state and nation. You’ve always been a champion for compromise, moderation and tamping down the dangers of divisive rhetoric and party-above-country politics.
This is reflected in your vote for the capable, qualified and eminently moderate Joe Biden and against the man who long ago lit flames of insurrection. Right? You voted for Biden, right? The sane candidate and not the megalomaniac. The one who campaigned for unity and division, not the one who campaigned for division and hate.
poor Richard comes out against “ranting and lying” in howling irony.
ABob hears “peaceful and patriotic” and feels smeared with excrement.
You pathetic, lying losers are busted.
Keep up the good work boys.
Let’s look at some of the statements made by this republican administration to instigate and incite the terrorist insurrection against our country.
“We will never concede”
“Stop the steal”
“The BIG Protest Rally in Washington, D.C. will take place at 11:00 A.M. on January 6th. Locational details to follow. StopTheSteal!”
“We will never give up; we will never concede,” Trump said to thunderous applause. “We will stop the steal. We’re going to walk down Pennsylvania Avenue, and we’re going to the Capitol…We’re going to try and give our Republicans, the weak ones…the kind of pride and boldness that they need to take back our country.”
“There’s never been a time like this where such a thing happened, where they could take it away, from all of us—from me, from you, from our country,” he also said in the recording. “This was a fraudulent election.
“Big protest in D.C. on January 6th”, “Be there, will be wild”
Combine these inflammatory statements, with Stochastic Terrorism, Noun.. Acts of violence by random extremists, triggered by political demagoguery. A favorite tool of authoritarian leaders.
It’s not a big leap to get to inciting insurrection.
Yeah; exactly what I have been saying.
And you don’t turn on your own VP. Pence has been loyal to trump for years. Through good and bad. What does trump do? Throw him to the dogs. How can ANYONE support trump knowing that he will F$%k you over without blinking an eye.
Yes, it damn well is. You can say white is black and torture the language all you want but you translate through Trump Derangement.
Sure; and now in the midst of a crisis that grifter appointee Wolf is jumping ship. Your a COWARD. Just another dip-shit who’s father gave trump a bunch of money to buy you an appointment. Put all this crap on your resume you piece of crap. When your old man croaks you can buy yourself a membership at trump’s golf course and live the high-life. FU and all the Ivy League decks just like you. RAT COWARD TRAITOR
Not twenty four hours since you came out against ranting.
What is your stance on blithering?
