Or is that incense and peppermints?
Of Part #1, Round #2 of American Lacks Talent that aired on CNNTuesday night (07-30-19), the divine Ms. Vicki McKenna asks “Who watched this inane debate theater besides me? I lost IQ points—but I definitely want to drink a bottle of wine with Marianne and wake up the next morning going “who was that crazy chick I talked to last night?”
Republicans are said to be some of Marianne Williamson’s most enthusiastic financial supporters, rascal spoilers that we are. But this New Age faith healer is a sideshow.
The headliners at the Democrats presidential debate Tuesday night were the two paladins of the A.O.C./John Nichols/Nicolas Maduro wing of the Democrat(ic) party: Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren. Donald Trump is rooting for you guys. Joe Biden thanks you.
Someone at the Free Beacon calculated that Democrats Tuesday night called for $200 Trillion (with a T) in new spending — most of it from Sanders and Warren.
Democrats may yet find their equilibrium. At the NY Times, Frank Bruni notes that candidate “John Hickenlooper began the evening with the observation that while Democrats picked up 40 seats in the House in the 2018 midterms, not one Democrat who flipped a district from red to blue did so by running on the kind of agenda that Sanders and Warren are pushing now.”
Win the primary, lose the general election?
Democrats are like that viral image of the speedboat jettisoning its illicit drug cargo overboard as the Coast Guard gave chase.
U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Ohio (another moderate who has no chance) warns Democrats will lose 48 states on a ‘Medicare for All’ platform.
National Public Radio/Marist survey says only 41% of electorate support Medicare for All to replace private insurance. Medicaid for illegal immigrants? Not for 66%. Decriminalize illegal immigration? Only 27% support.
The New York Times sent its anthropologists to Racine WI. They found that “left-leaning voters in [this] multiethnic city say immigrants should enter legally.”
RACINE, Wis. — In this old manufacturing city that supported Hillary Clinton in 2016, dislike for President Trump runs wide and deep. Images of crying children at the Mexican border typically serve as Exhibit A on the list of grievances that Democratic voters cite against the president.
Many of those same voters also express strong views opposing illegal border crossings, often rooted in their own family stories of coming to America. If you want a chance at the American dream, they say, you should play by the rules.
“I think everybody should come in the right way, just like our ancestors did,” said Christy Cowles, 59, a retired city worker who is a fan of Senator Bernie Sanders.
But Wisconsin Democrats haven’t got the message. Three state legislators want to make Wisconsin a sanctuary state for illegal immigrants. “Immigration and Custody Enforcement (ICE) is a rogue agency,” says one of the Democrats.
The marketplace renders its verdict
We’ll find out how Democrats’ “Russian collusion” narrative plays during the August congressional recess. But cable TV ratings offer a clue. MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow has slipped to 5th place in the ratings — just ahead of Three Stooges reruns. Just kidding. But four Fox News shows are doing better.
MSNBC prime-time host Rachel Maddow has seen her monthly ratings drop more than 800,000 viewers since the beginning of 2019.
Maddow had her best month of 2019 in January, where she averaged an audience of 3,288,000 viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research. … Maddow was one of the leading voices in the speculation surrounding the special counsel’s report into whether or not the president or his campaign conspired with Russia to win the presidential election. In the week after Attorney General William Barr’s letter to Congress where it was revealed that Mueller found no evidence of a conspiracy, Maddow lost half-a-million viewers. — Washington Examiner.
Or is the Democrat(ic) clown car one big turn-off?
Politico Reports: The first night of CNN’s Democratic debate in Detroit drew 8.7 million television viewers, a steep drop from last month’s event hosted by NBC, MSNBC and Telemundo. The June event brought in 15.3 million viewers across the three networks on Night One, with 18.1 million tuning in for the second night, a Democratic primary record.
Blaska’s Bottom Line: If Joe Biden can muster a Sister Souljah moment and tell Kamala Harris to go to hell (or, at least, back to the 1970s with her forced school busing) tonight in Round #2 he may just get some major mojo. After all, Wisconsin Democrats won with bland (Tony Evers, Tony Evers, Tony Evers.)
