Would even more gun laws help?

Clearing off the roll-top desk here at the Policy Werkes

Bartleby_scrivener_2“California may have the toughest gun control laws in the nation,” The New York Times reports. “But that did not prevent the latest mass killing — a shooting on Wednesday that left 12 people dead at the Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks.”

California already:

  • Bans so-called assault weapons;
  • Outlaws expanded magazines for guns;
  • Requires background checks to buy ammunition;
  • Allows police and family to get restraining orders to seize guns from troubled people.

Maybe more laws would help. States are the laboratories of democracy. Let’s see how it works out.

Who wants to be a cop any more? Safe neighborhoods advocate Paula Fitzsimmons says Madison Police applicant pool is at record low.

Factors like an improved economy aside, the War on Cops is working and has taken its toll. It’s one thing to knowingly put yourself in harm’s way, increase your risk for conditions like PTSD & cardiovascular disease, and statistically speaking, experience a lowered life expectancy.

I see All-White people! — The erase all history curse is migrating from Madison to my old stomping grounds in Sun Prairie. Some residents have already begun griping that the historical society is planning a Civil War re-enactment next July 26, 27, 28.

Worse, “It’s being planned by All-white people.”

Will free speech be allowed? Ben Shapiro is coming to UW-Milwaukee 7 p.m. Monday, November 12. The mob tried to shut him down a couple years ago here at UW-Madison. More info here.

Madison Police Department: Why hasn’t the ring leader been arrested for shutting down the October 29 budget meeting of the Madison Board of Education? You’ve got four complainants, citizens of good standing. Bianca Gomez works at Freedom Inc. on Park Street. Should be easy to find. Serve the summons!

So they ARE illegals?

Illegals

Illegal Americans, but still …

    The same mentality that objects to Civil War re-enactments by white people also becomes apoplectic when a POC (esp. a woman) in public office is criticized, no matter the reason(s). Exhibit A: Brenda Snipes, the Florida election official who lowered the bar for incompetence–not to say criminal negligence–as far as it can conceivably go. One of the talking heads on CNN “referred to her as “an older black woman in the South,” thereby helpfully identifying the latest no-go zone when it comes to holding someone accountable for his or her actions.

    As a former resident of California, I can assure you the firearms laws only apply to law abiding citizens. Criminals see minimal punishment for breaking gun laws. When Willie Brown’s former side piece, and potential 2020 candidate Kamala Harris was DA in San Francisco, criminals generally received thirty to ninety days in county jail for possession of stolen weapons or being a felon in possession of a firearm.

    The entire purpose of California’s gun laws is to eliminate private firearms ownership through onerous regulation. Democrats see firearms law as a weapon to use against conservatives, a demographic they loathe. Public safety is simply not a consideration. That is why the laws are focused on gun owners and not criminals and psychopaths. There is also a narrative to be explored regarding the overlap of criminal demographics and voting patterns.

    Eh, possession is 99/100ths the law? According the the illegals. OK…….so where is law objective? Where is it just a matter of opinion.
    I mean, can I claim that I own your house or car……….just not “legally”? Hous-about a car-jacking? Spontaneous “Social Justice” — since it ain’t yours, really. Cars are social and economic constructions. Communism to the front. Progressive income tax embodies the commie ethic. Everything else is just a question of price.

    We’re reminded of Johnny Carson asking a babe if she would sleep with him for 1 million bucks and she said, “Yes”.

    Well, he replied, “What if it was 10 dollars for one night?”

    She responded, “Well of course not. What do you think I am?”

    Johnny replied — “What you are is not in dispute. We’re only arguing about the price,”
