Or move to California (net migration is going the opposite direction). Gov. Jerry Brown and his Democrat(ic) state legislature is now enacting laws for the express purpose of “sending a message.”
The power of the State of California as expressed in actionable state statutes is being wielded for the express purpose of virtue signaling.
It is now illegal in in that state for your board of directors to be all male (or identify as male, in today’s parlance). It is the ultimate triumph of identity politics, the golden state’s salvo against privileged white men like Brett Kavanaugh.
Even Gov. Moonbeam knows the law is unconstitutional. But so what? A message needs to be sent!
“I don’t minimize the potential flaws that indeed may prove fatal to its ultimate implementation,” Brown wrote in a signing statement. “Nevertheless, recent events in Washington, D.C. — and beyond — make it crystal clear that many are not getting the message.”
This triumph of the nanny state requires at least one female director on each board of California-based corporations by the end of next year. Companies would need up to three female directors by the end of 2021, depending on the number of board seats. Because, you know, stockholders would never elect a qualified woman director without the heavy hand of the state. Except that 83% of corporations listed on the Russell 3000 Index already have women directors.
Governor Brown’s “potential flaws” run smack into constitutional guarantees of freedom of association and equal protection under the law. Hey, if you like quotas in college admissions …

The triumph of the nanny state in CA is only one of the toxic effects that can be traced directly to Affirmative Action laws enacted in the 1970s. When a government starts operating on the principle that race, gender, disability status, etc. are the only relevant factors in determining your societal worth, it’s only a matter of time before arbitrary quotas get imposed. And even when the perceived problem is solved, there’s no relief from the relentless propaganda that says women and minorities are in need of special help to “level the playing field” (a project that’s taking longer to complete than the Pyramids). Last year, women accounted for 56% of students enrolled in American colleges and universities, but don’t expect to hear cries of alarm from academics. Once you’ve achieved “disadvantaged” status, you’ll never be expected to relinquish that privilege.
Speaking of DNA tests, has Pocahontas Warren ever been asked to take one to determine the extent of her alleged Native American heritage?

Correct me if I’m wrong on this, but Madison is run by liberals/progressives or whatever invective you want to attach today on this increasingly muddled document. Chicago’s problems date back centuries at this point, and many of them have to do with corruption and graft that have nothing to do with left-right politics, but personal greed. Madison’s left, on the other hand, appears to be running a very smooth city, your occasional outbursts about crime (it’s down, again) notwithstanding. It would be amusing to see a conservative mayor (when are you running, Sir Blogsalot?) try to continue that trend without dismantling liberal programs that work.
