Go Brewers! — Oh, is this Brewer bandwagon a fun ride! Guessing productivity suffered Monday in the upper Midwest but, here in Wisconsin, morale got a major boost. Beating the Cubs for the title? Priceless. Jesus Aguilar sent the right kind of message Sunday in Milwaukee: The Cubs should be very afraid. He was correct. We may be facing them in the divisional series. (Brewers? You mean, as in “beer.”)
Confederate Rest — Tonight, the Madison Common Council wants to send the wrong kind of message: it is more virtuous than the one-armed veterans of the Union cause in the Civil War. And Madison residents have been victimized by the astoundingly racist message on the stone:
Erected in loving memory by United Daughters of Confederacy
to Alice Whiting Waterman and her boys.
The addled alders will resume its mission to uproot the first permanent gravestone to mark 140 POWs buried at Confederate Rest. Meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. Your Squire will be four square, there. (More here.)
Democrat(ic) quotas — Want to know what happens when Democrats get unfettered control? Visit Chicago for the murder, stay for the autopsy. Or move to California (net migration is going the opposite direction). Gov. Jerry Brown and his Democrat(ic) state legislature is now enacting laws for the express purpose of “sending a message.”
The power of the State of California as expressed in actionable state statutes is being wielded for the express purpose of virtue signaling.
It is now illegal in in that state for your board of directors to be all male (or identify as male, in today’s parlance). It is the ultimate triumph of identity politics, the golden state’s salvo against privileged white men like Brett Kavanaugh.
Even Gov. Moonbeam knows the law is unconstitutional. But so what? A message needs to be sent!
“I don’t minimize the potential flaws that indeed may prove fatal to its ultimate implementation,” Brown wrote in a signing statement. “Nevertheless, recent events in Washington, D.C. — and beyond — make it crystal clear that many are not getting the message.”
This triumph of the nanny state requires at least one female director on each board of California-based corporations by the end of next year. Companies would need up to three female directors by the end of 2021, depending on the number of board seats. Because, you know, stockholders would never elect a qualified woman director without the heavy hand of the state. Except that 83% of corporations listed on the Russell 3000 Index already have women directors.
Governor Brown’s “potential flaws” run smack into constitutional guarantees of freedom of association and equal protection under the law. Hey, if you like quotas in college admissions …
(More here.) It is the ultimate in identity politics boofing (newly added to the Manor’s lexicon). Coming next, legislative mandates that half the state legislators and half a state’s congressional delegation be female?
Please help me, I think I am black — Which is why a man in Washington state wants to be black, despite being “visually caucasian.” Says one of those mail-in DNA tests found he is 4% black and 6% native American. He wants some of that sweaty government money it showers on minority races. (More here.)
Spray paint — The party of tolerance sent a message to those retrograde Republicans by vandalizing the Republican party hdq in Rockford, Illinois, over the weekend. The building was spray-painted with the words “rape” and “shame.” A man has been arrested. Oh, did your Squire presume guilt without a fair hearing? Sorry. Must admit, the vandal may be a socialist, not a Democrat. (More here.)
But no, Brett Kavanaugh’s home was NOT vandalized. That is FAKE NEWS!
One presumes that home is under police guard.
