Jeff Simpson, I am calling you out. 

Jeff Simpson, you are an elected member of a school board (Monona Grove, what were you thinking?), and an active Democrat. You are a public figure.

Jeff Simpson, you accused me, David Blaska, of racism — now back it up. What have I written that qualifies as racist?

I reported that a 17-year-veteran teacher in the Madison Metropolitan School District quit the teaching profession in despair. She described the “positive behavior coach” being hospitalized after breaking up a student fight. She described that and more in a heartfelt on-line blog on June 11 titled “Closing the Door on the Madison Metropolitan School District.” 

“I am leaving this district, because I cannot serve the children I love in the current climate,” teacher Karen Vieth blogged.  

I have never seen a building as deeply in crisis as Sherman Middle School, yet my cries for help went unanswered for three years.  … Nobody seems to be steering the ship.

Over the weekend, this blog noted that four years ago President Barack Obama’s administration forced districts to set what amounts to illegal racial quotas in school discipline. Jeff Simpson responded with:

There is so much ignorance in dave’s post that he is doing all he can do … to chum the waters.” You also posted, “The incredible pretzel twist of flawed non logic, mixed with racism, ignorance and desperation to tap into the right wing echo chamber money is incredible to watch …

Of what is the proprietor of Stately Blaska Manor ignorant, Jeff Simpson? What is illogical? I asked if you were throwing the race card at Ms. Vieth, the many teachers and parents who responded to her blog in support, and the 26 parents who wrote school district administrators concerned with the large number of vacancies at Sherman from fleeing teachers. You responded: 

Nope….not at all. I know Karen, great teacher. I am strictly accusing you of racism Dave. 

cry-racistI ask again, on what basis? Now the principal in question has quit, most likely under pressure from central administration. We hope she finds her level of competence. (The school board met Monday evening in closed session on a personnel matter. Brenda Konkel reports that, despite staff’s warning that they shouldn’t say what the issue is, new school board member Gloria Reyes still says that the meeting is about “personnel issues at Sherman middle school.”)

As for you, Jeff Simpson, Stately Manor reader Tom Paine has already challenged you: “Yo Jeff, we await your counter-case. Thus far you’ve only presented a tautological comment that in no way is compelling. Are you up to it?” You responded (if that is the right word):

My counter case will come this week on my blog … this weekend was too busy to write anything up.

For bad measure, to your list of unsubstantiated insults you added:

I forgot to add bipolar schizophrenic.

( So now, Blaska is not just racist but crazy, too.

It is now Tuesday, we see nothing on your blog, Jeff Simpson. In any case, you played the race card here at Stately Blaska Manor. You were not too busy to make the accusation. It is here that you put up or shut up and get out. It is now that you do so.

Otherwise, you are a modern-day Joe McCarthy: make the charge; don’t bother proving it. Skedaddle on to the next wild accusation. (And you criticize Donald Trump!)

Blaska’s Bottom Line: I won’t ban you because you can’t resist digging your hole deeper and deeper. The public deserves to know what a disgrace you are, Jeff Simpson.

We excerpt this comment to Karen Vieth’s blog. “Rochelle” says:

Thank you Karen, you are a caring, brave and truthful person. I am a retired special ed teacher and administrator who worked in another state. My three grandchildren had wonderful experiences at MMSD, in the days before chaos ruled.

Two have graduated from university and are living out of state. The third is still in HS here in Madison. He is a sensitive and PC person, but is reporting that children talk on cell phones during class, shout across the room to each other, and if a teacher dares to ask them to desist, the teacher is cursed without any discernible consequence to the disruptive child.

I find it very troubling that by simply telling the truth about schools being chaotic we have to heap praise on Karen. Why is telling the truth a unique happening and so frought with peril? Fear apparently plays a big part. Fear of being called a racist. Fear of being labeled insensitive …

    I understand your indignation, Dave, but you might as well berate a rabid dog for biting you. Liberals like JS are so unhinged by their toxic ideology that calling disbelievers “racist” is simply doing what comes naturally to them. BTW I nearly fell off my chair this morning when reading that the principal of Sherman School has resigned. What a blow to the clueless elites who run Madison’s school system. I wonder how long it will take them to find a suitable (i.e., minority/woman/disabled/ transgender or otherwise “marginalized”) replacement. Not having to worry about things like basic competence should streamline the hiring process.

      Now (former) Sherman Middle School Principle Kristin Foreman will be reassigned to another position. Gotta love union work contracts negotiated with taxpayer money.

      In an email to Madison365, Madison Metropolitan School District Superintendent Jennifer Cheatham said Foreman would still have a job with the school system.

      “We are working with Kristin to find her another position in the district,” she wrote. “We respect Kristin’s decision, and we also believe she has the desire, skills and ability to continue to contribute to our district. We’ll work to identify an interim principal for next year in the coming weeks, and Kristin will work to ensure a smooth transition and provide full support to the Sherman community.”

      What demonstrated “desire, skills and ability” is Cheatham referring to?
      Apparently cowering in one’s office while chaos reigns in the hallways is a resume bullet point within MMSD.

      Foreman will “provide [her] full support to the Sherman Community” by continuing to bank more taxpayer money in salary and pension. Possibly she will earn it this time.

    It is with some amusement, but moreover a fulfilled expectation, that I see Blaska branded as a racist. Given the socio/political climate in Madison, I’m surprised it’s not happened before. Whereas “racist” historically is a loaded word in this country, it has come to pass on the part of the left to apply it rather indiscriminately against anyone with whom the left disagrees. In Madison, where I was born, raised and graduated from West High and the University and worked as a journalist for the better part of a 30-year career, I have fortunately lived away long enough to have escaped being included–about being a racist, anyway. I suspect, however, had I remained and continued writing publicly, my time may have come. In the late ’90s, early 2000’s, last I was there, my growing conservatism regarding numerous issues became regarded, even by certain old friends who ought to know better, as mounting evidence that I was a Nazi, or the next thing to it. Calling Blaska a racist is equal to the absurdity of this charge.

When people cease to care about the label it brings them closer to accepting the left’s invitation to identitarianism.     “Kids in cages.” Pithy AND alliterative! When this whole fiasco started I was wondering how long it would take Dems to roll out the false historical analogies (e.g., Japanese internment camps in WW2, Auschwitz, etc.). The usual gaggle of media whores led by Sen. Blumenthal (he of the phony Vietnam military record) soon obliged. They’re incensed at seeing how decades of steady progress toward their goal of open borders is being stopped in its tracks. Meanwhile, those Fox News commentators who dared to compare the accommodations on the border to summer camps and community centers are being excoriated in the MSM. Having examined several photos of said accommodations, it’s clear they bear a much closer resemblance to summer camps than to concentration camps. Someone even dared to speak the unspeakable: that the kids living in these facilities experienced a sudden increase in their standard of living compared to that in their countries of origin. It would be interesting to know the statistics regarding the ages of the “children” being housed in the detention centers. The MSM, of course, floods us with photos of crying, doe-eyed four-year-olds, but what percentage of kids fall into that age range? How many of the “children” are a year or two from legal adulthood? Good luck trying to find that information.

Is this the type of “summer camp” your children go to? If someone took your kids and you had no idea where they were would you be content because their standard of living went up?
