His bill came due

We won’t drink to that

Coming to grips with mid-term defeat.

Can Wisconsin even be considered a purple state anymore? A battleground, swing state? Democrats control all three branches of government. The Marquette University poll got it right by predicting a 7-point David Crowley victory; the Democrat won the governorship by 8. Lot of RINOs, apparently, not just in Wisconsin but in places like Maine, Ohio, Kansas, the Carolinas, and Texas. Maybe even Mississippi!

Partisanship waxes and wanes, which is why it is futile to gerrymander by partisan affiliation, as Democrats once attempted. Will state Republicans blame GOP chairman Brian Schimming or the President? Notice something: Republicans are building no barricades or burning any cities!

Here’s some post-Election Day 11-03-26 observations that caught our attention:

Seismic is not big enough to describe what has occurred. It’s an abject repudiation of MAGA, of Trump and of Trumpism across the board.” — Jason Villalba, a former Republican House member in Texas

“Total carnage. … When you publicly say for six or eight years, ‘No, we don’t want you, go someplace else,’ sooner or later they get the message.” — Tom Rath, a former Republican National Committee member in New Hampshire

“A strange reverse personality test has taken root. If a candidate talks like an affable, reasonable person, he must be a sellout. If he makes bizarre comments or has past scandals, that’s considered authenticity.” — Texas Sen. John Cornyn, ousted by Trump

Let’s have a sober moment. This was a major rejection of the insanity of Trump as much as a Democratic victory. — former Madison mayor Paul Soglin on Facebook

The President closed the midterm campaign on a “greatest hits tour on every annoying thing that could be done to aggravate the American people.” — Jason Roe, a Republican strategist in Michigan.

I’m reading some really absurd commentary tonight from conservatives saying it’s time to “take it to the establishment.” The “establishment” didn’t do this. Trump did. — Jessica McBride

“His Mini-Me’s … misread their idol’s victory two years ago as a license to be as unpleasant and venal as they wanted.” — Helen Lewis, The Atlantic

It’s hard for me to think of a White House that has done more to sabotage their own fellow members than this one has. — Marc Short, former chief of staff to Vice President Pence

“More than any American president, Trump has used fear as a central tool of policymaking. He doesn’t look so fearsome today.” — Politico

Old-fashioned love-your-neighbor Christianity beat Christian nationalism yesterday. — E. J. Dionne

Our winners are:

5. “Idiot king forgets to cancel election.” — Babylon Bee

4. Pete Hegseth wanted a public execution. We got it Tuesday night. — Facebook

3.”Trump and MAGA are like the Dodgers — all the money in the world and they still got swept.” — John Roach, Madison WI on Facebook

2. If you join a cult, at some point, the cult leader takes you to Jonestown … and they have candidates dropping like flies … because they did not stand up to this guy. — Van Jones on CNN

  1. 1. “In the end, not even Jon Husted’s phenomenal ass was enough to save the Republicans.” — Helen Lewis, The Atlantic
