Dane County WI supervisors are considering tapping the taxpayer for $25,000 to design and erect a Corey Ruiz memorial on Willy Street. A memorial to a career criminal! In a city where the name of the author of our Constitution is stripped from a high school, where an academy award winning actor and early civil rights advocate is scraped off a university theater.
The Exceptional Mr. Ruiz died 07-22-26 trying to kill police who were attempting to place the chronic criminal under arrest for yet another theft. Within hours, social justice warriors barricaded the street — Williamson at Baldwin — to create an autonomous zone celebrating and practicing social dysfunction.
Woke progressivism went into a tizzy when Mayor Satya Rhodes Conway belatedly reopened the intersection in a daring, pre-dawn show of force on 08-04-26.
The Executive Committee of the Dane County Board at 5:30 p.m. Thursday 09-24-26 will consider recommending the expenditure of $25,000 “to support a community-driven process to design, create, and install a permanent memorial recognizing individuals lost to police-involved shootings in the Marquette neighborhood.” In other words, illicit substance abuser Tony Robinson Jr. gets his due, as well.

‘Police were targeting criminals, not black people’
From 2000 to 2019, the prison-admission rate for violent crime dropped 20% for whites, 43% for blacks. Not because of DEI changes in policing or catch-and-release judges but due entirely to a 47% reduction in crime itself, according to research conducted by Jason Robey of the University of Iowa and Michael Light of the University of Wisconsin.
Wall Street Journal columnist Jason Riley quotes Charles Lane of the American Enterprise Institute, who concluded that the conventional “mass incarceration” narrative on the political left “needs to catch up with the facts.”
Mr. Lane speculated that we may be “in the midst of a long-term shift toward both less violent crime and less incarceration,” which “very well might never have occurred if we really had defunded police or abolished prisons.”
Riley concludes: “Police were targeting criminals, not black people” all along.
Blaska’s Bottom Line: If the budget amendment should make its way to the full county board and pass (with a super majority) we intend to compete for the cash prize. We don’t need Maya Lin for this job but like her Vietnam memorial wall we want to keep it simple: an open coffin. The base is inscribed:
“Resisting Arrest Could be Fatal to Your Health.
Submit and Judge Mitchell will have You Out by Daybreak.”
