County to fund Corey Ruiz memorial?

Simply unbelievable!

That didn’t take long. The peaceful bliss created by a news-free Maine vacation has evaporated like the latest Iran peace plan. Dane County WI supervisors are considering tapping the taxpayer for $25,000 to design and erect a Corey Ruiz memorial on Willy Street. A memorial to a career criminal! In a city where the name of the author of our Constitution is stripped from a high school, where an academy award winning actor and early civil rights advocate is scraped off a university theater.

UPDATE 09-27-26: Supervisor Chawla, the sponsor of this resolution, “indicated that for various reasons he was moving to postpone the resolution indefinitely in committee and instead intends to submit a capital amendment to the 2027 budget and to work with Dane Arts on a related project.” The motion carried by a voice vote.

The Exceptional Mr. Ruiz died 07-22-26 trying to kill police who were attempting to place the chronic criminal under arrest for yet another theft. Within hours, social justice warriors barricaded the street — Williamson at Baldwin — to create an autonomous zone celebrating and practicing social dysfunction.

Woke progressivism went into a tizzy when Mayor Satya Rhodes Conway belatedly reopened the intersection in a daring, pre-dawn show of force on 08-04-26.

The Executive Committee of the Dane County Board at 5:30 p.m. Thursday 09-24-26 will consider recommending the expenditure of $25,000 “to support a community-driven process to design, create, and install a permanent memorial recognizing individuals lost to police-involved shootings in the Marquette neighborhood.” In other words, illicit substance abuser Tony Robinson Jr. gets his due, as well.

Exterior view of the Social Justice Center, featuring a wooden coffin sculpture with engraved names and a message about resisting arrest, surrounded by greenery.

Sponsored by Supervisors Chwala, Barushok, Fries, Engelberger, Miles, Rylander, Gray, and Doolan. The county intervening in a purely City of Madison issue? Engelberger and Miles don’t even represent the city. Their districts are Stoughton and McFarland!

‘Police were targeting criminals, not black people’

From 2000 to 2019, the prison-admission rate for violent crime dropped 20% for whites, 43% for blacks. Not because of DEI changes in policing or catch-and-release judges but due entirely to a 47% reduction in crime itself, according to research conducted by Jason Robey of the University of Iowa and Michael Light of the University of Wisconsin.

Wall Street Journal columnist Jason Riley quotes Charles Lane of the American Enterprise Institute, who concluded that the conventional “mass incarceration” narrative on the political left “needs to catch up with the facts.”

Mr. Lane speculated that we may be “in the midst of a long-term shift toward both less violent crime and less incarceration,” which “very well might never have occurred if we really had defunded police or abolished prisons.”

Riley concludes: “Police were targeting criminals, not black people” all along.

Blaska’s Bottom Line: If the budget amendment should make its way to the full county board and pass (with a super majority) we intend to compete for the cash prize. We don’t need Maya Lin for this job but like her Vietnam memorial wall we want to keep it simple: an open coffin. The base is inscribed:

“Resisting Arrest Could be Fatal to Your Health.
Submit and Judge Mitchell will have You Out by Daybreak.”

What would YOUR memorial look like?

I fully agree. BUT, Blaska post this, “Sign up here to oppose Item D-1, Resolution 131.” The link didn’t copy here, but I clicked it in the original post to sign up, it was a nothing-burger. No way to sign up I could find….

In response to the webinar question “What are your pronouns?” I was tempted to type in NOR/MAL.

      But I didn’t.

      No guts.

If a memorial of any kind to woke Progressivism’s latest saint is erected in Madison, I will be the first–though I hope not the last–to vandalize it.

Jeez Madison. Anyone that has Tony Robinson, Corey Ruiz and George Floyd as their heroes… hates you. Your statues, your culture, your laws and your cops. The anarchist barbarians are in the city. They demand and you give them ransom every year.
Racism is a growth industry in Madison.
    Stop feeding it.

Madison keeps insisting that our police are racist, and they just can’t seem to find a cure for that. No matter what they do, or who they hire, the police are bound and determined to abuse and harass people of color without cause. Hire more women, more LBGT, more blacks and Hispanics, double screen the white males for racial bias. It just doesn’t seem to matter what they do, the cops just keep killing black men while pretending to arrest them. But the word is spreading. The only way to thwart those jackbooted thugs is to make a brave stand against the oppression. Do something that they will NEVER expect! The next time the Nazis try to take you into custody, just cooperate. That’ll fix ’em! Then what are they going to do?? You have exposed their ruse. They will have no choice but to peacefully take you to jail and give you court date. Look, that’s where you were going to end up anyway. Why not arrive there alive, with all your extremities functioning? Like the Squire says, “Resisting arrest can be hazardous to your health.”

Even though it’s not much, but cash strapped, budget deficit Dane County finds another way to spend money.
