Francesca Hong: ‘This was an execution’

In WI governor’s race, Defund Police is back in play.

Here we go again. Another white cop, another dead black man. Cue The Resistance. How many days before a mural dedicated to the latest undeserving martyr is splattered on a Madison WI wall? How many more events disrupted like last night’s Concerts on the Square? (Video here.)

All the usual suspects were present and accounted for after police shot and killed a knife-wielding black suspect Wednesday afternoon 07-22-26 on Willy Street at the intersection with Baldwin Street, just up the block from Brenda Konkel’s public nuisance Social Justice Center (as it so happens). (The knife.)

Say this about the late Corey Durrell Ruiz, age 38: the man appeared to be up to his old tricks again. Guy was trying to break into parked cars. Had 42 entries in the on-line CCAP criminal rap sheet dating back 19 years, the most recent a year ago — for retail theft and resisting an officer — adjudicated when he was already in residence at Dodge Correctional Institute. Previously, judged guilty of felony battery to a law enforcement officer and car theft and multiple resisting arrests.

That matters not to those who rush to judgment, including the leading Democrat(ic) candidate for governor, Francesca Hong, who posted this:

Madison police shot and killed a Black man just a few blocks from our campaign office and just a few blocks from where Madison police murdered Tony Robinson in 2015.  I am horrified and devastated. … Our entire community is grieving. The bystander video … shows multiple officers surrounding and restraining the man on the ground while another officer fired at least three shots at close range. This was an execution, and it never should have happened.

No mention of the police officer injured in the line of duty. He is to be hounded, no investigation necessary. State Rep. Hong (D-Madison) joins frequent fliers like Brandi Grayson, Maia Pearson, and Progressive Dane county Supv. Heidi Wegleitner in condemning police. Led by Madison’s “independent” (snotty quotes) police monitor, Aeiramique Glass, who ostentatiously walked out of Police Chief Patterson’s press conference. So much for fact-checking.

Mayor Satya Rhodes Conway also threw police under the bus. As quoted by the Wisconsin State Journal:

“What decisions were made by officers that led to escalation instead of deescalation? What different choices could have been made to prevent harm? What needs to change in police policy and training to prevent more deaths?”

County executive Melissa Agard wasn’t much better:

“This is not just another headline, this is someone’s child. A family is grieving an unimaginable loss, and our hearts are with them, with everyone affected by this tragedy, and with the bystanders and emergency personnel who responded to an incredibly difficult situation.”

Milwaukee County Exec David Crowley, the governor’s endorsee, tried to walk a tightrope:

“I am horrified by the reports coming out of Madison about a man who was shot and killed in the street by police officers. … these reports are painfully reminiscent of the tragedies we have witnessed in Kenosha, Minneapolis, and far too many communities across our country. … [But] We must allow the facts to come to light while reaffirming our shared commitment to justice,
accountability, and the dignity of every human life.”

Mandela Barnes also tried to play both sides of the street. This is Tom Tiffany:

Any loss of life is tragic, and my prayers are with everyone involved. When I served in the state Legislature, we established the nation’s first statewide law requiring transparent, independent investigations of police-involved deaths. We should allow that process to establish the facts without politicians rushing to judgment or stoking division.

Blaska’s Bottom Line: Cops are not infallible. They make mistakes. Pour all the de-escalation training at them you want, they’re still human, we must remind progressive scolds. The stun gun didn’t do the job. Neither did hands on. Cut me with a knife, I’m shooting and so are you, young socialist community organizer. But Madison, apparently, expects a police officer — someone’s father, husband, sister or daughter, someone’s child! — to bleed first and ask questions later. And maybe now, Madison progressives, police body cameras?

How will this shooting play at the voting booth?

Nobody on the left is saying anything about the lack of body cameras and why they weren’t there. They want a new George Floyd.
I’ve seen Ruiz listed as white, Hispanic and now you’re saying he’s black (aren’t you supposed to capitalize)? Can’t keep up.

One thing you have to admit about progressives: they’re as predictable as diarrhea after ingesting lettuce from Taylor Farms. I’m only surprised that they were satisfied with disrupting the concert on the Square. Why not a repeat of the mayhem and looting of six years ago when we were last treated to a spectacle of their righteous wrath? I love Franny Hong mentioning that the incident in question took place only blocks from her campaign headquarters–as though such a thing were not possible on hallowed ground. (Tiffany’s crew is lapping up her comments for use in their ad campaign.)The only sane observation I’ve heard so far is the one from the perpetrator’s “ex”: “This has nothing to do with race; it’s about his behavior.” Heresy of the first order among the progressive priesthood. Expect the local media to be flooded with interviews from the usual gaggle of “activists,” community organizers and civil rights leaders. How long before Benjamin Crump sniffs the potential for a big payout from guilty white liberals (nowhere guiltier than Madison) and beats a hasty path to Madison after perpetrating his latest scam in Mississippi?

It’s suppose to get hot again this weekend. Maybe it will be “burn baby burn”.

First, if a police officer violates the law, he or she should be held accountable. But if they act lawfully then they should be supported. Here the investigation has just begun and we have politicians who should know better, especially the mayor and city council president, throwing the officer under the bus. On the surface, the use of force seems justified — an investigation will determine whether that holds water — but if it was then isn’t anyone wondering why anyone would want to be a police officer in Madison with such lack of support from the people you work for?

“Politicians who should know better”? In Madison? The local pols are so blinkered by their toxic leftist ideology they’re incapable of rational thought, especially when it comes to matters of race–and in their minds that includes everything under the sun.

Love how Hong demanded all body camera footage be preserved and safeguarded, apparently unaware of the fact that in her district, body cameras have been prohibited by her own compadres on the city council.

“What different choices could have been made to prevent harm?”

    Not stealing bicycles.
    Not attempting to burglarize vehicles.
    Not fleeing from police.
    Not resisting arrest.
Not attacking officers with a deadly weapon.
Not living the life of a violent scofflaw.

Need any more on that, Mayor?

Oh boy, the professional RAY-cists in town haven’t had this wonderful a pay day since George Floyd.
Cue the mob and mind the Hans Christian Heg statue.

Honestly not a good look for Patterson yesterday. Satya has had a “kick me” sign on her back ever since “Thank you for your anger” all those years ago and now Patterson stands meekly by while his press conference is turned into a circus by protesters. Reminiscent of the Mary Burke led school board meeting with the Freedom Inc children.

Do we have our own little CHAZ zone in Madison now?

How long until the Mayor is forced to ask the National Guard for help?

When/if the officer is cleared will the Vel Phillips statue end up in the lake?

Tom Tiffany must be laughing. As if the state had to be reminded of the potential for lunacy in Madison. Tammy Baldwin hardest hit and using Booking.com to check vacancies in Tora Bora. Marc Pocan, where are you? Someone check plywood futures at Lowes.
I’m going long on popcorn futures.

“Nobody should ever lose their life as a result of an encounter with law enforcement.” Nice thought, but I would add that if you resist arrest and assault a police officer with a lethal weapon, all bets are off. We need a public education campaign: Resisting arrest is bad for your health. And resisting arrest with a deadly weapon, is even worse for your health. Nobody ever seems to get hurt when they cooperate with the arrest.

That subtext of that quote is “Nobody should ever lose their life as a result of an encounter with law enforcement [except for law enforcement officials].” And it’s not a “nice thought”; it’s the sort of thought one expects from a slightly backward eight-year-old.

I love how progressives call it an execution like the police officer woke up that morning and thought “I’m going to murder someone today”. That’s the last thing any officer wants to do, especially one of color.
At least the Chardonnay liberals are getting what they voted for good and hard with Concerts on the Square and now Atwood Fest cancelled.

And what say you Ms Hong if the Officer was stabbed and died?
