No country for pompous blowhards

Do WI Democrats have a middle ground?

Admitting that we admire former governor Scott Walker triggers indignant glossolalia among Madison’s progressive elect, which is why we sing his hosannas every chance we get. The former governor and author of Act 10, which reined in government employee unions (but not enough), has this to say about biased journalism:

Recently fired Scott Pelley is an arrogant jerk.

After the head of CBS News fired the “60 Minutes” correspondent, he told The New York Times: “I have been in combat in Afghanistan. I have been in combat in Iraq. I have been in the war zone in Ukraine multiple times, risking my life and the happiness of my family because of my devotion to the broadcast.”

That is like saying you are a dairy farmer because you have watched cows in a milking parlor. Years of making things up have finally caught up with this piece of work. — Scott Walker in the Washington Times

The joke is on Scott Pelley and his ilk: an electorate resentful of their biased pandering poked their finger in the CBS eye by voting Trump. (The photo is Babylon Bee.)

Hong to the left, Tiffany to the right

All we know about a fellow named LeRon Bridges is that he’s from Milwaukee and describes himself as a senior software engineer at Accenture. Seems to us, though, that his positioning of gubernatorial candidates on the political spectrum is spot on. No surprise that Francesca Hong is left of Karl Marx. Or that Kelda Roys and Mandela Barnes also reside in Bye Bye Bernieland. Mr. Bridges puts former Evers cabinet members Missy Hughes and Joel Brennan as the more conservative of four “moderates” — a smidgeon to the political right (but left on his graph) of Lt. Gov Sara Rodriguez and Milwaukee County Exec David Crowley.

Infographic displaying the ideological placement of candidates in the 2026 Wisconsin Governor Race, categorized as Conservative, Moderate, and Progressive. Each group includes a list of candidates with their corresponding positions indicated.
Hulsey and Roper didn’t file; Kirk Bangstad (not shown) is pending

Is Joel Brennan pro-school choice?

On behalf of the teachers union, the Democrat(ic) party continues to stand in the school house door to prevent educational reform from helping minority students. The Institute for Reforming Government susses out the positions of six of the seven Democrats who let their hair down before a friendly Wisconsin Workers forum held 06-02-26. (Watch the forum.)

Fully end vouchers, including in Milwaukee, statewide, and for special-needs students: Barnes, Hong, and Roys (endorsed by the state teachers union).

Repeal Act 10: Crowley, Hong, Hughes, Roys, Barnes, and Rodriguez.

Add a teachers union member to the UW Board of Regents: volunteered by Hong. Only Joel Brennan avoided the union fly trap. Could it be he is trying to skate past the Democrat(ic) primary, knowing that Wisconsin voters want school choice?

None dare call it (oh, never mind)

We get called a “traitor” for, from time to time, scolding our self-destructive Republican President. So, too, do the likes of Mitch McConnell, Susan Collins, and Paul Ryan — so we’re in good company. The insufferable Fox News host Jesse Watters labeled four Republicans as traitors for supporting the Iran war powers resolution. Former Congressman Justin Amash points out that members of Congress swear an oath to uphold the Constitution — not to a political party or president.

Blaska’s Bottom Line: Real traitors storm the Capitol, assault the police defending it, and threaten to hang the vice president if he doesn’t overturn a presidential election.

Blaska may be a blowhard, but is he pompous?

I don’t always think of pompous blowhards, but when I do it’s Neil Heinen every single time. Full stop.

Where’s Dementia Don? I stopped feeding the pigs to hear him blab lies to me???

I don’t know about pompous, but anybody that fines Mitchell, Collins, and Paul Ryan good company is a traitor to everyday republicans. Paul Ryan is the biggest scumbag Wisconsin has ever had bar none.

You do have a super power, Kent Clark: cluelessness. For schitz and giggles, how is Paul Ryan a scumbag? Did he attempt to overturn an election? Enrich himself at the public trough? Demean a woman’s appearance? Mock a disabled man? Question John McCain’s sacrifice for country? You are ashamed to use your real name but you can libel others whose only sin is political disagreement. You are pathetic.

      1. Kent Clark Avatar

Paul Ryan gave up his speakership so he could spend more time with his family and then he signed up more financial enhancing position than you could shake a stick at. He could of stayed and fought but instead he turn the congress over to the democrats because just like you he hated Trump so much and he thought he might loose again, as he did running for vice president with a RINO bigger than you. You control this Page, so you already know my name, if want to contact me directly you have that too. I remain anonymous to protect my family.

        1. David Blaska Avatar

Paul Ryan is a “scumbag” because he wanted to spend more time with his family and earn an income? From what I can tell, a Republican took his place in Congress: Bryan Steil. You remain anonymous to protect your family? Like I don’t have a family? But that allows you to call anyone who doesn’t measure up to your standards (lower than you think) a “scumbag!?” I guess you know what I think of you.

Well, the graphic is accurate in calling the leftmost candidates “progressive” instead of “liberal”. Because they and progressives in general sure aren’t liberal.

    1. richard V Lesiak Avatar

Yep; hate to see our state make any progress. Maybe Evers should sleep through his meetings then the Repuklicans would hail him as a hero. See what I did there? took away the B put in a K. No one knows there’s a b in their name. Invented a new word. Was tested four times and aced them all.

Only progressive morons see all of their proposed political changes as being “progressive” when some of their proposed “progressive” changes are literally regressive in all aspects of culture and society. Modern day 21st century political “progressives” are too brainwashed and/or indoctrinated to realize that their absurd reality is delusional.

Encouraging jealousy and hatred towards successful people is not progress. Tolerating, excusing, and cheering criminality and political violence is not progress. Blanket characterizing people because of their race is not progress. Letting cities rot from within and get overrun with squalor in the name of tolerance is not progress. Dredging up decades-old sins and demanding reparations from and retribution towards those who had no part in them is not progress.

        “…well-advised to remain anonymous.”

Is that a veiled threat? I am not shaking in my shoes. I didn’t like Scott Walker calling broadcast journalist Scott Pelley an “arrogant jerk”.

I seem to have hit a nerve. Walker must be a friend of yours. Please accept my apology, which is more than Mr. Walker would do for Mr. Pelley.

        1. David Blaska Avatar

If you regard disclosing your real identity as a threat you might want to reconsider why you find it prudent to hide behind the cloak of anonymity. A real man would stand his ground, in public, unafraid — Like Scott Walker.

I tried apologizing, but all I got for my good-faith effort was being further criticized by you and your pal Witherspoon. I was even referred to as a “moron.”

I am not “a real man.” I am a real woman who hereby stands her ground. Anyone can find me in the Whitepages. My name is Paula Dent and I live on the near northeast side of Madison.

Scott Walker, if you are reading this, I apologize for calling you “a barnyard turd.”

Is everybody happy? Or do you want my head on a stick?

        Regards,
        Paula Dent, aka “Anonymous”

You go girl! Walker is a turd. He signed legislation reining in the power of all governors that would serve after him and now the GOP can sit back and complain about what he is not doing. He embarrassed our entire state with his stupid run for president. At least you don’t have “gotch” posting pics of your house on line. I have gotten ‘ANONYMOUS” (not you) phone calls and a couple of nasty letters. Now we need to have the rest of these keyboard cowards to put their name out there. P.S. sleepy Don is a turd also. Gotta run. FBI is knocking on my door wanting to know who I voted for.

I’ve been called! Unlike Candyman you only have to say it once so be careful.

So we’re back to the anonymity debate. I think it’s a time honored tradition in newspapers, books and online discussions. It’s very useful in a city like Madison where the riff raff will show up at your door if you say the “wrong” thing.

As long as we are discussing IDEAS it should not matter. It’s different if an anonymous poster is making specific claims about someone that is not public knowledge, or if they are sock puppeting.

I also think there are certain posters whose egos are so big it would kill them to post anonymously. DB you’re in charge if it’s bugging you that much just make people use their real names. I think you will get less engagement and/or watered down opinions.

        4. David Blaska Avatar

No newspaper allows anonymous responses, time-honored or not, One Eye. If the choice is “watered down” opinions or opinions backed by the full faith and credit of the poster’s actual name — I’ll take names for $100, Alex. Means more. I don’t go in much for bravery hiding behind an alias. (Really, is bravery even needed to trash Scott Walker in Madison WI?) What kind of person calls a former Speaker of the House “scum” — a public servant never indicted much less convicted, who stood for what he believed would make America better? To answer my own question, that person is scum and a coward.

        5. David Blaska Avatar

Paula, I do give you credit for identifying yourself. You are entitled to your opinion. As you may have noticed, we take on all comers.

        6. richard V Lesiak Avatar

Now, now. You must remember that Walker spent $478,000 on remodeling his kitchen at the mansion. Not bad for just having a place so your kids can cook a frozen pizza. Our tax money at work.

        7. One Eye Avatar
          One Eye

“the full faith and credit of the poster’s actual name”

Heh that’s just another version of appeal to authority. Do you really think using your name gives you a clearer view of the world? It doesn’t and in fact it just makes you dig in to your entrenched opinions further.

I don’t think it’s a good way to moderate poor behavior here either. Maybe you need to start giving people timeouts.

          Signed, Poor Richard.

        8. David Blaska Avatar

Using your actual name may not give one a clearer view of reality but it does assert your willingness to stand behind your statement.

Happy 100 days of the no war war. Are you feeling like sleepy Don lied to ‘ya all? Whenever dopey Don says ” on day one you better duck and cover. But don’t worry the entire trump family doesn’t have to pay taxes so they will take care of you.

  8. Mark Lemberger Avatar

Paul Ryan is not a scumbag but he is an exemplar of why Trump had to come along to expose the Uniparty.
Paul Ryan went from “come see my ten year plan to balance the budget” to ‘Gee Mr. Obama may I please have another Omnibus budget to vote for?’ And he did it in record time.
John McCain voted for my family to be punished by ObamaCare.
Mitt Romney was naive enough to believe that politics WAS beanbags then the Uniparty/Media establishment sand bagged him. Repeatedly.
Thank goodness I got to vote for a man that says “Fight, Fight, Fight.”

People! No one is doxing anyone here but management is considering requiring commenters use their actual name. Too many keyboard warriors hiding behind anonymity so that they may disparage other’s integrity without blowback. Until that time, we have contracted with the Orkin man to periodically cleanse off-topic comments. We advise platinum subscribers to take personal vendettas elsewhere.
