WI GOP plagued by so-called ‘Patriots’

Anti-Robin Vos kooks demand MAGA purity!

“A bunch of low-IQ weirdos are trying to take over the Dane County GOP.” That’s the assessment of Vicki McKenna, the conservative radio talker who finds herself in their pornographic crosshairs.

Far-right Republicans who flatter themselves “The Patriots” have been trying without success to pull down Robin Vos, whose Republican Assembly caucus — 54 Republicans elected in every corner of Wisconsin — keeps electing him as their speaker. These are Trump cultists who blame “RINO” Vos for not unilaterally overturning the 2020 presidential election here in Wisconsin. Now they’re after Republican party chairman Brandon Maly, for insufficiently fighting another Republican, the Speaker. They promise to nominate “a well vetted, wise, conservative Christian” to replace Maly, who is Jewish, at the March 15 party caucus.

“They’re anarchists!” one Dane County GOP board member told the Werkes.

The ‘Patriot’ campaign

 No conspiracy is too bizarre

The party’s Second District congressional candidate, Erik Olsen, categorized the opposition:

The vast majority of those opposing Brandon are not at all anti-Semitic. Some of them are people who vehemently dislike Robin Vos and feel that Brandon should have put more of the focus of the RPDC into anti-Vos efforts. Some are people who are still upset about the last RPDC election in 2023. Some of them dislike Brandon for a variety of reasons which have nothing to do with religion …

County Republicans barely have time to do combat with the Democrats. Self-styled “Patriot” Republicans urged a boycott of a June 2024 fund raiser with former Democrat Tulsi Gabbard, before she endorsed Trump. They wanted to search the donor list and return the money if the donor also contributed to Vos’s campaign. Some demanded the Dane County party endorse Kelly Clark, who ran as an independent against Vos last year — in Racine County. Two years earlier, “Patriots” supported Adam Steen, as did Trump. Both candidates received money questionably funneled through three out-state county parties.

Patriots” frequent H.O.T Wisconsin, which manufactured a video of Vos supposedly listening to the Chinese national anthem. (The anthem plays over a still photo of Vos.) It asks “Why Isn’t Robin Vos’s Alleged Ties to Communism Making Headlines?”

They read Bill Savage and Wisconsin Conservative Digest, which asks “So how in the world does the MAGA movement move forward with leaders like [U.S. House Speaker] Mike Johnson and Robin Vos?”

 They even attack Eric Hovde!

Vicki McKenna reports receiving text messages …

… from these same whack jobs attacking me and Brandon, claiming [GOP U.S. Senate nominee] Eric Hovde is a human trafficker because his wife serves on her Lutheran Church board. The Hovdes pour time and treasure into rescuing kids from human trafficking, mind you … but this is the surreal world of the group trying to take out Brandon at RPDC.

Ironically, many of these same “Patriots” brought their flaming pitchforks to boot long-time Scott Grabins two years ago for Maly. In the last two years, Maly and vice chair Chrissy Illgen have increased party fund raising by almost 20-fold since their election two years ago — albeit without materially improving Republican ballot success. Some insiders fault the chairman for being high-handed, to the point of dismissing dissident board members. Grabins tells the Werkes he is not a candidate for chairman.

There is churn in other county parties across the state. The entire party leadership in Wood County resigned last year in protest of “the Chinese operative,” Vos. Other party leaders resent the influence of Turning Point USA. It’s leader, Charlie Kirk, is tight with Donald Trump Jr. Dane County’s Maly is Turning Point.

Second District GOP chairman Billie Johnson tells the Werkes:

If the crazies take over this party you can forget about electing a Republican governor in 2026. The hate being generated against Brandon is incredible. I don’t know how he can stand it. We should be focusing on the supreme court race instead of fighting with each other.

Blaska’s Bottom Line: The turmoil in Wisconsin’s county parties are the wages earned by humoring the useless idiots who trust the My Pillow Man, not Attorney General Bill Barr. No conspiracy is too absurd; not Jewish space lasers nor voting machines supposedly jiggered by Hugo Chavez. They swear the FBI staged the January 6 insurrection “to make Trump look bad.” They’re convinced that Nancy Pelosi was the stewardess on the flights to Jeffrey Epstein’s island. They insist Michelle Obama is a man. Yes, they’re that stupid!

Regrettably, too many influencers have been a willing conduit for these fantasies. Now they’re getting a dose of their own medicine.

We would not be dishing this family dirt if it had not escaped the containment vessel. Seventy years ago, William F. Buckley read the John Birch nutcases out of the movement, thereby revivifying conservatism — ultimately electing Ronald Reagan and Tommy Thompson. Blaska does not purge, but he does call out dumfukkery, no matter its source.

See you at caucus.

Is Robin Vos really the problem?

New FBI Director Kash Patel will find and expose the FBI agents who staged the January 6 riot to “make Trump look bad.”

That illustration for the “atomic bomb ring” brought back a flood of memories from my childhood in the 50s. I was a great comic book fan, and the back pages of every issue would be devoted to ads of that sort. One that sticks in my memory was one that advertised a dog (which looked like a chihuahua) that was said to be small enough to fit in a teacup. (I suppose this might be technically true as new-born chihuahuas might be that small.) I begged my parents to let me send for one–without success. I wonder why some cultural historian hasn’t latched onto this phenomenon–it would be a fruitful area for research as the ads reflected wider cultural trends–or existential dread, in the case of the atomic bomb ring. All hail Capitalism, which can make $$$ even from the fear of being blown to smithereens.

Same here, GK. The salad days of Targeted Ads, am I right?

Anywho, as far as advertising went, it was the gosh darn Wild West back then, and ads’ claims being anywhere near a fact-based Reality? Fuggeddabouddit!

Dane GOP needs to learn how to fight instead of learning how to lose elections Maly was brought in because he told us he could win elections. Results matters. Vos needs to represent the conservatives instead of special interests. Evers runs over like a rolling pin. Maly increase voters turnout to 23 percent because of the Trump effect
VOS has to find a spine

David – Thank you for exposing the truth about the island of misfit toys. Every party has its crazies, the only different is that Democrats let theirs run their party! but we don’t want that to happen here so it’s important that members of our party show up to vote on March 15 at the caucus. As the finance chair of the Republican Party of Dane County, we have raised over $820,000 this past cycle to get Trump in office as compared to $30-$50,000 a year under the prior leadership; the most ever. I have personally witnessed the misfits disrupting the RPDC meetings each month; they arrive with a pre-typed manifesto to read out loud, taking up 45 to 60 minutes of our precious time. Just prior to the election, they asked the RPDC to vote to endorse Vos’ opponent! They’re not team players, instead, they are individuals who have nothing to do but attend the meetings, disrupt, name call, accuse leadership of violations of the RPDC constitution, and make endless speeches about some latest topic in the news – as if the rest of us live in a bubble unaware. They occupy a number of Assembly District chairs, but they don’t lift a finger or do any work. I provided each of them a blank report listing out their results by each week, so that we could report back to our donors on our activities and results. Not one of them reported in. When they are supposed to report on their work, they instead distract and create drama.
