Help DEI to DIE!

DEI statements are today’s loyalty oaths!

Aaron Rodgers’s play under center for the New York Jets was only a tad more brief than Ronna McDaniels’ career as an opinionator at MSNBC.

The 24/7 progressive cable news outlet hired the former Republican National Committee chairman on a Friday in March for a wee dram of intellectual diversity, equity, and inclusion. Ms. McDaniel was let go by Tuesday after Rachel Maddow & Co. huffed and puffed — on screen! The chairman of the News Group backpedaled, furiously. “No organization, particularly a newsroom, can succeed unless it is cohesive and aligned.”

“Aligned?” How, like tires? Going in the same direction? Not deviating from the script? Yoked together like horses wearing blinders? “Cohesive”! No deviation from the party line!

Barely two weeks later, a long-time National Public Radio editor lifted the rock covering the groupthink at that taxpayer-subsidized outlet.

Take the oath!

Race and identity became paramount in nearly every aspect of the workplace. Journalists were required to ask everyone we interviewed their race, gender, and ethnicity (among other questions), and had to enter it in a centralized tracking system … In a document called NPR Transgender Coverage Guidance — disseminated by news management — we’re asked to avoid the term biological sex. — Uri Berliner, writing for Bari Weiss’ The Free Press

Mr. Berliner was suspended for his candor and, taking the hint, resigned. The boss lady at NPR spun this Orwellian NewSpeak:

We are stronger because of the work we do together, and we owe each other our utmost respect. We fulfill our mission best when we look and sound like the country we serve.

As long as that country is Manhattan and Madison WI — not Wyoming or Wautoma WI.

Are you now or have you ever been ...

Is it any wonder that a math professor who grew up in the Soviet Union told a writer for The Atlantic that he abhors diversity statements. In “Abolish DEI statements,” Conor Friedersdorf argues that “forcing all who seek faculty jobs to pledge fealty to the same values will make colleges less diverse.”

DEI has metastasized from the anti-semitic campuses like Harvard and Penn to the newsroom, to local government and to many corporate boardrooms. DEI statements are today’s loyalty oaths. The DEI bureaucracy, our courts of Inquisition.

Blaska’s Bottom Line: At some point, it will become apparent even to the good progressives tapping their smart phones over a smoked vanilla mocha at Collectivo coffee shop on Monroe Street that the institutions most committed to diversity, equity, & inclusion are the least diverse, most inequitable, and most exclusive. We can help the City of Madison out of its $27 million budget hole by zeroing out affirmative action, “racial equity,” “social justice”, and “environmental justice” functions from the $2.7 million Civil Rights Division.

Who’s up for returning the Chamberlin boulder
to the UW campus some dark and stormy night?

The Gotch believes the worm has turned on *D*idn’t *E*arn *I*t/*D*ivision *I*nequality *E*xclusion/*D*iscrimination *I*nequity *E*nmity; they overplayed their despicable hand and are collapsing under an oppressive weight of inadequacy after being hilariously hoisted on their own pathetic petard.

As long as that country is Manhattan and Madison WI — not Wyoming or Wautoma WI.

None of those, except the Waushara County Seat, has its own, eponymous Heirloom Cucumber, growing under the lights as we speak.

I seriously doubt it. To admit that reality would be tantamount to renouncing the grievance-wallowing that is the fabric of their identity. But if they want to DIE on this hill, I say let them.
