The trail is getting cold

We spent Monday 02-26-24 at the top of Wisconsin in a place with the charming name of Land O’ Lakes to watch son Max roll out his movie adaptation of a Stephen King story, Last Rung on the Ladder. It was well received at its showing at the Gateway Lodge, the local citizenry being bereft of their snow sports.

The entire burg hugs the state line with Michigan’s upper peninsula. At the Gateway golf course, you can tee off in Wisconsin and hole out in Michigan. Hellz bellz, it was almost golfing weather. Over pancakes and sausage patties at the Pine Cone restaurant, radio news reported on efforts to secure disaster assistance for the lack of snow. Temps reached the 50s that day. The annual Frosty Club “Radar & Bikini” benefit snowmobile run had been cancelled. (What is THAT all about?!)

Northern Wisconsin in February

Drove a few blocks north into Michigan just to say we did but saw no signs of Tuesday’s primary election there. We awaken today to observe that 19% of Democrats voted against their sitting President in that battleground (like Wisconsin) state. Democrats don’t have to be from River City to know that spells Trouble with a capital T. Meanwhile Joe Biden is going to the border to — zut alors! — get tough on immigration, finally — 3½ years into his presidency and days after an illegal immigrant murdered a college student. (“Migrant charged with Laken Riley murder disfigured her skull.”) Joe has cognitive issues, the kids hate his war on Gaza, and progressives want open borders. That’s a trifecta of crippling issues!

We continue to think Democrats will hold a surprise retirement party and invite Uncle Joe as guest of honor. NY Times columnists Ezra Klein and Ross Douthat think so, too.

Trump, meanwhile, blew past our Miss Nikki 68 to 27% in Michigan, where divided Republicans are holding rival state party conventions — one in Detroit and the other in Grand Rapids. (“Feuding Michigan GOP can’t agree on a convention site.”) They’re also suing each other in court as to which is the real Republican party. (“Judge slaps down rogue Michigan Republican chairwoman who refused to leave post.”) Like Dear Leader, she claimed the election defeating her was rigged. See where this all leads?

The lady is not for quitting

Nikki is not deterred. Over the Werkes’ electronic transom, the brave lady proclaims this morning:

I’m not afraid to say the hard truths out loud. I’m willing to take the cuts, the bruises, and the name calling. I feel no need to kiss the ring. I have NO FEAR of Trump’s retribution.

A stunning 70% of the country doesn’t want a Biden-Trump rematch. The majority of Americans don’t just dislike one candidate. They dislike both.

When the country’s future is on the line, you don’t drop out. You keep fighting. In fact, you fight harder than ever. That’s why I refuse to quit.

Trump, meanwhile, continues to shrink the tent. Nikki is now “BIRDBRAIN.” Politico observes:

This was a former president entering the general election actively exacerbating divisions within the GOP — at a time when some Republicans are openly warning about the risk of alienating even a small segment of the Republican electorate. Trump has every rational incentive to make overtures to Haley and her supporters, who delivered her roughly 40% of the vote in New Hampshire and South Carolina and who are the kind of voters Trump will need to turn out in Michigan and Pennsylvania in November. But he refused to do so — or, perhaps, was incapable of it.

Blaska’s Bottom Line: Exit polls in the first three Republican caucus and primary states indicate 20% will never vote Trump. Maybe we Republicans should seek disaster relief.

What do YOU think?

Congratulations to your son on his film! Sounds like a nice outing in the North, although that would NEVER be my choice. At least you didn’t need to take the bobcat with you to ensure a path through the non-snow. Regarding your political essay, as Roseanne Roseannadannah once quipped many moons ago — “…it just goes to show you, it’s always something — if it ain’t one thing, it’s another.”

Congrats to #1 son, but no mention of Land O’ Lakes main claim to fame: <a href="https://golandolakeswi.com/headwaters-of-the-wisconsin-river/#:~:text=The%20Wisconsin%20River%20starts%20its,children%20and%20less%2Dexperienced%20paddlers. of the Mighty WESconsin River?

That…um…barely edges out the eponymous butter’s…er…TRICK.

And a mere 8.2 miles/13/2 kms due north on U.S. 45 you’ll find Watersmeet, MI, home of the Nimrods!

And a mere 15.5 miles from where the Squire turned onto U.S. 45/ Hwy 8 to free drinks and pretzels at The Bar. Hell, we’d have broken out the crystal cordial glasses and pickled eggs!

The day after Mr Blaska left the stage, there was still no golf on the local courses. We tried and were turned back by frosty hard ground and a wee bit too much snow on the fairways, but it was a close thing.

As to the meat of the post, I still don’t think anyone will be able to get the keys away from grandpa, so the choice come November is gonna be Jerk Boss vs Way Worse. I’ll take Jerk Boss over dead nurse, but that’s just me.

He’s still serving out his term as Senator- ends in January 2027!

And you thought The Walking Dead was a TV show. He and Biden need to be put out of our misery asap.

But, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, didn’t DementiaJoKe, while lapping ice cream like a synaptically disconnected ‘Tard, assure us there’d be a cease-fire by Monday…?

The US gumment still hasn’t figured out that you can’t go into a sovereign nation and tell them what to do. It has cost our country many lives with this “we know better than you attitude.” Viet Nam, Afghanistan, Iraq, on and on. If you think for one second that Biden is going to call and tell them to stop shooting and they say YES SIR you are out of your mind. PS; if you truly tRump could do it then you are completely nuts.

Gave us the Supremes, lest you forget (which you have, apparently).

I’d be happy if only 20% of the Republican Party was RINO.

    1. David Blaska Avatar

If 10% of the GOP is RINO, Trump loses. He keeps shrinking the tent. How many has he “barred permanently”? But you blame the voters, not the candidate! Now THAT is something new under the sun!
