Will Gaza’s moral clarity work its way to Madison WI?

Indiscriminate attacks in both places.

For the political party that celebrates victimhood, the theory goes, Palestinian suffering trumps Jewish suffering. Our take is that anti-Americanism beats paper, scissors, and rock. American policy since Truman supports Israel, therefore the Hard Left supports its enemies. 

Is any cause more … unlovable? The cause of civil rights has Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, and the four black girls killed in the 1963 Birmingham church bombing. The Palestinian cause has Yasser Arafat, the Munich Olympics murderers, and Vanessa Redgrave.

The Hamas savagery is pushing aside the Stolen Election nutcakery (at least for the moment) and exposing the evil axis of the Democratic Socialists of America (Bernie Sanders and John Nichols) and the Progressive Caucus of Mark Pocan and AOC’s Squad. “By now, you’ve probably seen examples,” Michelle Goldberg writes in the New York Times.

There was the giddy message put out by the national committee of Students for Justice in Palestine, which proclaimed, “Today, we witness a historic win for the Palestinian resistance. New York’s chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America promoted a rally where speakers applauded the attacks, and the Connecticut D.S.A. enthused, “Yesterday, the Palestinian resistance launched an unprecedented anti-colonial struggle.”

Goldberg quotes Bernie Sanders: “The targeting of civilians is a war crime, no matter who does it.” She responds, “That message is undermined when a loud part of the Left insists that when it comes to Israelis, there is no such thing as civilians.”

If Gaza is a prison, so is Harmony

The essential Jonah Goldberg writes, “If Gaza is a prison, it’s in part because it is run by a prison gang, which brutalizes and exploits Palestinian inmates. If the moment inmates escape from a prison they go on a murder, kidnapping, and rape spree, many reasonable people might assume the prison exists for good reason.”

Back to Madison WI. A 15-year-old girl was killed and three 14 year olds were injured in a blaze of gunfire — at least 50 rounds. What police describe as “an indiscriminate attack” occurred at a subsidized and chronically crime-ridden housing development naively named “The Harmony.” The attackers remain at large. They are likely not much older. “It was a cowardly act of violence,” said Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes.

How much less savage are the Harmony shooters than the early 20-something Hamas murderers? 

In the same way, rampant thuggishness has made Harmony its own kind of prison in a city that refuses to teach or enforce discipline until the lack of it turns fatal. This is the second shooting, among 136 police calls since only July! Matters not that the apartments are only four years old and modestly scaled, adjacent to open green space. These are not the infamous warren of high rises of Pruitt-Igoe in St. Louis. Smorgasbord of social services, taxpayer-subsidized rent. No police checkpoints, no fences, unlike Gaza. 

Blaska’s Bottom Line: Maybe there should be.

The Left — American and some Israeli — is baying for the head of Netanyahu and the failure of a priori intelligence — he should have seen it coming.

And done … what, exactly?
