Opinion polls insist that the economy is the Number #1 concern of voters these days. Blaska Policy Werkes says Bill Clinton’s guru, James Carville, is so 30 years ago! It’s the culture, stupid.
We theorize that poll respondents take their cues from the poll itself and the larger media bubble. Checking off on “the economy” remains politically acceptable.
Whereas, it seems a bit deplorable to tell the stranger at the other end of the call that you’re tired of being told you are a racist. You don’t owe Oprah Winfrey reparations. Boys have no place on the women’s swim team. What’s wrong with requiring permission before you cross the border? Defunding police hurts minorities the most. Suing Hyundai for teenaged car thieves is like blaming matches for arsonists.
Your kid did her homework but now the school board canceled that honors course to which she aspired. Like a fool, you paid off your student loans. You wonder why more of your tax dollar goes to subsidize dysfunction. Your school expelled the police but not the bully. We’re tut-tutted not to judge fatherless homes. Are you still reading authors who are dead and white? (!!!)
We get that sometimes young women get “in trouble” but there’s got to be something wrong with aborting a near-full term baby. You wish Hollywood would quit sneering at business people. You resent being told to eat bugs instead of bacon, you like your gas kitchen range, you do not get a charge out of driving all-electric.
The stock market waxes and wanes but when the culture is destroyed, nihilism replaces it. How does a society survive when punctuality is denounced as a vestige of white supremacy? When police are the problem, not pooping on the sidewalk?

• Illegal immigration — Joy Reid and the A.O.C. contingent cried foul when Texas governor Greg Abbott began shipping migrants north. Now Mayor Eric Adams warns New York City could be “destroyed” by an influx of illegals.
• Firearms — The Democrat(ic) governor of New Mexico unilaterally banned law-abiding residents of Albuquerque for carrying firearms. Even some Democrats are appalled.
• Reparations — Gavin Newsom, the next best hope of Democrats, appointed the commission that recommended taxpayers pay billions of dollars in reparations payments to black residents in a state that never knew slavery.
• Crime — “Progressives need to have real answers on crime,” The Nation magazine acknowledges.
• Giveaway programs — “Nobody at work wants to hear about your student loan payments.”
Blaska’s Bottom Line: Republican Assembly Speaker Robin Vos vows to suspend promised 6% faculty raises (over two years) if the University of Wisconsin campuses don’t cut $32 million worth of diversity, equity, and inclusion educrats. They are responsible for “un-personing” graduate and two-time Academy Award actor Fredric March, a civil rights pioneer, and for hauling a 42-ton glacial boulder off campus when the inanimate object was accused of racism.

It’s too bad Republicans didn’t listen to what was essentially the same message from Pat Buchanan decades ago, when he–rightly–launched the Culture Wars. If they had, we wouldn’t be subjected to the outrages enumerated above, and our colleges and universities wouldn’t be taxpayer-funded indoctrination centers run by fanatical ideologues adept at brainwashing impressionable young minds. If you think you were engaging in outlandish speculation by suggesting E. Wash could be renamed for the (mercifully defunct) criminal Tony Robinson, look around at the array of outrageous examples of woke insanity that a few years ago seemed equally preposterous.
He revived our economy, lowered middle class taxes, repatriated over a trillion dollars from overseas banks, controlled our borders, got conservative judges seated, scared Putin, Assad, China, North Korea et al.
And you despise him. Apparently all day, every day.

I grooved on the Wall Street Journal’s “Nobody At Work Wants to Hear About Your Student Loan Debt.” That’s because I paid my oh-so-onerous college loans while I slaved on my first job out of college for 4 bucks an hour. Lots of other Boomers worked even harder than me.
I not once thought to ask Uncle Joe to cancel my debt, even though Mr. Biden served in the Senate even then.
