Might one more cop car have saved that girl?

Announcing the arrest of a suspect for the brutalization of a University of Wisconsin student in downtown Madison, Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes Conway put in a plug for her mental health intervention team, created two years ago.

You’re supposed to call the Community Alternative Response Emergency Services (aka CARES) instead of the police when you don’t want anyone to get shot — the theory goes — because cops like to shoot black people. The university itself teaches that Woke B.S.

Here’s a thought exercise:

if the City had devoted more resources to more police patrols — uniformed cops with guns in marked squad cars — might one of them have been cruising Bedford Street downtown and thereby prevented the Labor Day weekend tragedy?

We took note in the previous thrilling episode (“Can Madison stop celebrating criminals?”) of the juxtaposition on Page One in Madison’s daily fish wrap of the arrest of Brandon A. Thompson for the savage Labor Day weekend beating and — on the same page — a report that a mural will be given place of honor in a city park that celebrates a druggie named Tony Terrell Robinson Jr., a mixed-race, dark-skinned man shot by a white police officer.

E-mail the Parks Department. Tell them they screwed up!

One more scalp in the progressive’s War on Cops even as heroic police work brought to justice a suspect who raped and beat an innocent victim. The battered UW student will never be the same, physically or emotionally. Tony T. Robinson Jr. was a victim, too, but of his own decisions and those of his immediate circle, not of racist police.

Could Satya’s mental health intervention team have saved Tony? The powerful 19 year old — higher than the Space Lab — had been beating complete strangers at random on Willy Street that night in March 2015 and jumping in front of moving vehicles. Not even his three young-adult companions could control him; it was they who summoned police.

[One of Tony’s companions] J.L.said he called 911 because Robinson was out of control and getting more violent. … J.L. [said] that Robinson was punching holes in the walls of their apartment and “going crazy.”

That day he ingested off-prescription Xanax, marijuana, and an heroic amount of hallucinogenic psilocybin mushrooms. Arriving on the street in front of the house, Officer Matt Kenny told police he could hear “sounds of incoherent yelling and screaming.” Cop haters second-guess the officer’s decision not to wait for back-up. What if another UW student was being victimized? “It sounded like someone was striking someone or something,” the officer told state Department of Justice investigators. Entirely plausible, since Tony Robinson had been striking some ones and some things all night long, as witnesses told DOJ.

What happened in that narrow staircase is reminiscent of that scene in Hitchcock’s Psycho:

Officer Kenny continued up the stairs to the step just before the top. … The subject immediately appeared from around the corner at the top of the stairs and struck Officer Kenny with a closed fist on the left side of [his] head, knocking [him] back and into the wall. … The subject … continued to swing.

The officer feared being disabled and losing control of his service weapon. Might he and others be shot to death if he failed to act? I don’t think this has been reported: the young man’s rage at his absent father — absent because Tony senior was once again in prison.

J.L. said Robinson was staring at a wall … and shouting “Oh my god!” … and”Fuck you, dad! Where’s my father? Where’s my mother? Don’t call the police!” and “Fuck you!” J.L. describes Robinson as yelling at his father who was not there. … After a few seconds of shouting “Tony, Tony, Tony!” Robinson finally replied “Javie, bro,” then began yelling “Fuck you, dad” in the air repeatedly.

Blaska’s Bottom Line: Did Tony T. deserve to die for having a bad trip? Does an hallucinator who thinks he can fly deserve to die? Maybe not but he will die unless he really can fly. Who other than the drunk driver is responsible for the carnage he causes? (Then again, this city sues car manufacturers because kids steal their cars.)

Tony Robinson was full of rage — unrelated to Madison police. The troubled young man made a conscious decision to dose up on illicit drugs with the enablement of the people around him.

Might Tony Terrell Robinson Jr's death been suicide by cop?

Maybe you should try some decaf.

You ask: “if the City had devoted more resources to more police patrols — uniformed cops with guns in marked squad cars — might one of them have been cruising Bedford Street downtown and thereby prevented the Labor Day weekend tragedy?”

Highly unlikely. This entire crime could have been over in ten seconds. As far as more patrols are concerned, you have the Madison police patrolling that area and within blocks of the scene you have Capitol and University police patrolling. You also have a 24-hour fully staffed firehouse nearby as well as a federal courthouse with numerous security cameras.

Your attempt to link this heinous crime with the Robinson events that occurred almost eight years ago display an inappropriate obsession. You correctly state that Robinson’s behavior that day was a result of Xanax, marijuana, and mushroom use. After reviewing Thompson’s comments to the police (he told police he “went into a rage”, “didn’t know what was going on”, and “just kind of zoned out during the rage”), I think we’ll find the catalyst for Thompson’s actions that night was similar to Robinson’s – a combination of alcohol and something else. It could be Adderall, ketamine, meth or cocaine. But that is the only link you can make between these two incidents.

Your effort to link the Thompson and Robinson’s events is either a deeply dark, cynical, organizing effort or a reflection of your own mental health. It truly is bizarre.

and you totally ignore the fact he assaulted the officer. Nice….

The City of Madison linked the events.

Not sure we need more cops but I’d sure like to see less of them swarming. 100 people fighting in the street is one thing but how does a teen girl having a meltdown warrant 8 squads and an ambulance? Happened in my neighborhood last week. I could see that as an initial response but 5 minutes into it they had to know it was overkill. Yet most of them stayed on scene and did who knows what.

      Significance of October 24, 2022?

That’s the last time the wildly inept Bi-Polar bares, THE_WORST_TEAM_IN_FOOTBALL, actually won a game.

They closed out 2022 with ten (10) straight losses, a then franchise record for futility.

Picking up right where they left off, they extend that…um…unblemished streak of…er…perfection to 11…at home…against the 13 Time World Champion Green Bay Packers…whatta bad joke!

      One more thing:

AFTER FURTHER REVIEW, THE bares STILL SUCK!!!
