Blaska Policy Werkes

David Blaska, going out of his way to provoke progressives in Madison WI to make America safe for democracy!

Will Trump be criminally prosecuted?

Is any issue more critical than the Constitution?

The Werkes is under no illusion. We’re in an age where a free people choose their truth with the ease of a remote-control channel selector. If you want to believe the 2020 presidential election was stolen and that defending the Constitution means hanging Mike Pence, a thousand depositions will not change your mind.

Cavil all you want. Yes, Nancy Pelosi should have allowed Republican leader Kevin McCarthy his picks on the January 6 committee. It would have survived Jim Jordan. Democrats do want voters to forget about gas prices, baby formula, and Hunter Biden’s laptop. But two things can be true at the same time. We learned from Thursday’s 06-09-22 Made for TV hearing that:

  • Donald Trump’s own campaign told him he lost. Even Sean Hannity texted Trump mouthpiece Kayleigh McEnany “No more stolen election talk!

Liz Cheney: “President Trump ignored the rulings of our nation’s courts, he ignored his own campaign leadership, his White House staff, many Republican state officials, he ignored the Department of Justice, and the Department of Homeland Security. President Trump invested millions of dollars of campaign funds purposely spreading false information. …  This misinformation campaign provoked the violence on January 6th.”

  • The Capitol “incursion” was not a case of spontaneous combustion but was planned beforehand with Proud Boys and Oath Keepers as the shock troops.

Liz Cheney: “On 12-18-20, a group including General Michael Flynn, Sidney Powell, Rudy Giuliani and others visited the White House. They stayed late into the evening. We know that the group discussed a number of dramatic steps, including having the military seize voting machines and potentially rerun elections. You will also hear that President Trump met with that group alone for a period of time before White House lawyers and other staff discovered the group was there, and rushed to intervene. A little more than an hour [later], President Trump sent [a] tweet … telling people to come to Washington on January 6th: “Be there,” he instructed them. “Will be Wild!”

Posted BEFORE January 6 on social media

I say this to my Republican colleagues who are defending the indefensible: There will come a day when Donald Trump is gone, but your dishonor will remain.— from Liz Cheney’s opening statement.

  • Trump said maybe Vice President Pence should be hanged. “Aware of the rioters’ chants to “hang Mike Pence,” the President responded with this sentiment: “maybe our supporters have the right idea.”
  • Only Mike Pence was trying to secure the Capitol. The President enjoyed the televised show from the White House lunch room, ignoring frantic aides urging him to intervene.
  • Some cabinet members discussed invoking the 25th Amendment.
  • Trump should be criminally prosecuted.

Cheney: “The judge evaluated these facts and he reached the conclusion that President Trump’s efforts to pressure Vice President Pence to act illegally by refusing to count electoral votes likely violated two federal criminal statutes. … While Congress was under attack on January 6th and the hours following the violence, the Trump legal team in the Willard Hotel war room continued to work to halt the count of electoral votes.”

Blaska’s Bottom Line: However successful was Donald Trump as President, the man traduced his reputation by plying his cultish followers with a steady stream of lies. Failing other stratagems, he incited the mob to wreck the transfer of power. (His sorry asterisk midway through the speech about “peacefully and patriotically marching to make your voices heard” is what is called CYA.) That it had little chance of success is immaterial. The gunman who took a cab ride to Justice Kavanaugh’s residence failed, also.

Are You a Mule for Denial?

Democrats have been through so much they deserve another term.

All the theatrics and hand-wringing from the Left are nauseating and difficult to watch. But yeah, looks like dude broke the law.

Would love to see this go to court so that all the facts can be presented and evaluated by a jury. If for no other reason than to demonstrate (to the next demagogue) that there are consequences for stepping over that line.

The quotes above from military/industrial/security state sycophant Liz Cheney are naked assertions. Your highlights only highlight the paucity of the argument against Trump. The Jan 6 committee is a quasi-judicial kangaroo court, your McCarthy nod above is the exclamation point.

I have no love for Trump, his time has come and gone. I do give him credit for pushing back, at least for a time, on the same military/industrial/security state that is obviously running the show now. And who are the primary reason for the continuing effort to discredit Trump and anyone who is thinking of pushing back against them.

PS – the 25th amendment was invoked to prepare people for it being invoked on Biden.

I definitely support reducing the power of the military/industrial/security state, but I don’t agree that Trump did that. Sure, he was a disrupter of sorts, but more the sort that just shouts nonsense. Kind of fun to have at a party, but not anyone capable of what you’re giving credit for.

Educate me; how did he effectively reduce the power of the military/industrial/security state?

      Like

      1. Michael Leger

No president in our history has been effective in that reduction. The last president before Trump who tried was JFK. We all know how that turned out.

Trump tried to establish rapprochement with Russia. Combined with attempting to shut down the Afghanistan debacle, the gloves came off.
He also began the process of rebalancing our trade relationship with China. The fangs came out.
He tried to close our sieve-like southern border.
He went against the brainwash that was covid hysteria. From that point on it was full court press, pardon the pun.

I assume he wasn’t assassinated because that would have turned him into a martyr and would have been too obvious. Trump also started singing more mainstream tunes towards the end of his presidency.

The part I never understood was Rudy Giuliani. Here was a guy that was a Federal Prosecutor who was successful against the Mob in the 1980s and turned around NYC in the 1990s. So he knows the law and politics inside and out. Why did he peddle such crazy/tinfoil hat nonse?? All his good and reputation evaporated.

If people think Rudy never cut corners as a prosecutor or mayor to get things done, I have ocean property to sell in Darlington, WI. The courts all denied and said all ballots will be counted no matter how they were filled out, collected, mailed out. The courts basically set the precedent for future elections, If a vote is returned in proper time frame it is going to count no matter what, regardless of all the illegal third party interventions, collections that broke rules of chain of command. I just hope the GOP has wised up and is planning to use the same methods to get the votes they need in upcoming elections, since Tony Evers blocked basic reforms which make Zuckerbucks illegal with consequences, the jury is still out if we will Hagedorned on use of ballot boxes. I mean we had Dane County Executive approve the issuing of absentee ballots without i.d. by claiming Covid Pandemic was reason enough to say you are domiciled. All thousands of votes counted without I.D. verification even though that was proven to be false and against the rules. Heck I was encouraged to exactly that when requesting my absentee ballot and same with my wife, but we chose to send our ID info because that seemed fishy.

He may be guilty of a crime it is what it is. I claim so what he said that about Pence. It was a desperate man making a sick comment to one person because he knew his fight was over but his egotism would not let him admit defeat. He was not ordering him to be hanged, it was a sick comment, but was not an presidential order so I say big whoop and it could be argued that way in court if this was trying to be admitted into evidence. If he had put that on twitter then I would say the argument against would not hold up but nothing shows he did that. All this committee has is “Dog Whistles”. It is the same sick sarcastic humor when he said can we aerate the lungs with Clorox to kill the virus or when he made a joke for Putin to find Hillary’s emails. I do not miss the reprehensibly man, I appreciated what he accomplished as president as an outsider and in the face of hurricane headwinds from both the GOP and DEM parties. If he concedes with any grace and saves his fight for another day we would be talking about a MAGA tsunami right now because generally speaking most of what he warned voters about is happening to the nation. Instead we have this, I have said his influence in 2022 will work in some places and not in others but his influence will continue to fade in time and news cycles. I have no time for rehashing 2020, especially by a completely partisan committee with an agenda of painting a narrative using any means possible. Thanks for the Blog to read on a daily basis and sometimes allowing my comments to be shared!!!

were all the ones collected in the parks tossed no, were the thousands of absentee ballots cast without id tossed no. so yes some may have been technically tossed but thousands were not. when the election was decided by a few thousand votes dozens barely matter.

        1. It would have been a travesty of democracy if the ones in the parks were tossed. All those people were registered voters and summarily throwing out their votes without any evidence to the contrary would have been a massive act of disenfranchisement.
Vos didn’t even raise a stink about it until literally 12 hours before the Democracy in the Park even took place despite it being announced a month beforehand – punishing thousands of voters who had no reason to believe it was illegal to cast their votes there would be absurd.

The same is true of the absentee ballots without ID’s. Without any concrete evidence that all of those voters weren’t registered voters who were who they claimed to be that would have been an extraordinary step. Should the law regarding self-designating oneself as confined be tightened up? Almost certainly, but that’s entirely a different question.

    1. The difference is Trump’s lies were purely in service of a cult of personality that at the very least condoned violent attempts to overturn an election by force, while actively pushing for ways to steal the election through other means (despite his own AG telling him it was B.S.)

If Trump’s lies were purely in service of a cult of personality, the lies of the Left are in service of a cult of theory (Marxist/Stalinist/Progressive, to be precise). If they thought they could get away with it, they would use considerably more force to promote their cult than that used on Jan. 6th.

        1. “If they thought they could get away with it” is exactly the reason why examples need to be made of Trump and his supporters who tried to do exactly that – to deter anyone regardless of political affiliation from attempting the same thing in the future by underscoring that it’s unacceptable.

        1. Thanks to Donald Trump’s pathologic narcissism, the largest eligible voting population, and four years of Hillary Clinton’s Russian collusion (and other) lies, yes — Basement Joe did get more votes than anyone in history. Yes, going back to the first presidential election in 1788! Is that statistically impossible? Hiding Joe Biden in the basement was the equivalent of Muhammed Ali’s rope-a-dope.
