Is it autumn already?

Pardon us all to hell but …

… like the mayor of San Francisco — we are feeling the spirit!

“The Left chose to ignore the [Mexican] border,” Erick-Woods Erickson observes, “until they could blame America and law enforcement for something.” Our progressive … acquaintances (for they ARE …) are taking umbrage that mounted border patrol agents are whipping illegal immigrants.

A border patrol agent on horseback is shown trying to keep Haitian refugees out of an area. A reporter confused the agent’s reins for a whip and accused the border patrol agent of beating the refugee with the whip. In fact, the agent was controlling his horse. — Erick-Woods Erickson.

Psaki asked about image of Border Patrol agent with apparent whip: ‘obviously horrific’ — NBC News.

→ Joy Reid pushes Border Patrol whip narrative on MSNBC show. (Source here.)

Erickson notes that In Ferguson MO, a reporter for the Huffington Post set off a firestorm by suggesting the police were using rubber bullets against a crowd of black protestors. He actually had taken a picture of foam earplugs on the ground. It’s what is called “agit-prop.” Communists invented the technique of conjuring inflammatory nonsense in order to whip up the base.

WI Assembly Speaker Robin Vos has introduced Assembly Bill 563, which requires teaching civics. “It will ensure that students will be taught about the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and Bill of Rights.” Only 24 percent of students in eighth-grade were at or above proficiency in civics according to the 2018 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP)

Pay attention to your backyard! Just as the State of Wisconsin is embarking on redrawing its legislative districts following last year’s Census, so is the City of Madison dickering with its aldermanic maps. Plan to have the maps done for Common Council action on October 19. See what is being proposed so far. County government is also redistricting.

Obscure reason for outrage disconvered! The mighty scythe of progressive Wokism swings ever wider. From the New York Times: “Taking the ‘shame part’ out of female anatomy. Anatomists have bid farewell to “pudendum,” [which apparently means “ashamed” in Latin] but other questionable terms remain.” Does it really make any difference? Who uses that term, anyway? Let’s hope the other P word remains safe.

Blaska’s Bottom Line: Be like General Milley. If you’re going to launch a pre-emptive strike on the Werkes and its fortified Stately Manor, please give us heads up. (If we don’t answer, leave a message.) Even the Sterling Hall bombers were thoughtful enough to drop a dime beforehand.

What is YOUR major malfunction?

And in other news, the City of Madison’s ridiculous lowering of speed limits on major thoroughfares has notched another pedestrian death. Since the stupidity of lower speed limits on a six-lane state highway began the City has seen numerous pedestrian deaths on E.Wash. after claiming the lower limits will reduce, not increase, pedestrian deaths.

This idiotic initiative needs to be scrapped yesterday. It has led to MORE pedestrian deaths, more aggressive driving, and more pollution due to snarled traffic.

    Stop the Stupidity!

Knowing the morons in charge they will cry harder, lower it again and again, and as deaths increase along with more aggressive driving, traffic backups and pollution, they will scream louder and blame “the community” for not trying hard enough.

Ultimately what the radical control freak commies want is to ban cars. That’s the truth behind their “safety” slogans.

Pudendum: From the Latin meaning “that of which one ought to be ashamed.” As opposed to mutilating it and its counterpart the penis in the name of “gender reassignment.” Even if the person whose gender is being reassigned is barely old enough to read. As one of the stoic philosophers observed about Rome during the reign of Caligula: “In our time, Reason is sound asleep.”

Good to see Hans back atop his plinth gazing majestically across the Capitol lawn (Lady Forward, too). I suggest adding a plaque at the base of each statue noting that during a period of unrest and abrogation of duty by those in charge they were desecrated by a pack of feral thugs and vandals while so-called “law enforcement” stood by scratching their asses. If there were any justice, social or otherwise, Madison would be stuck with the bill for refurbishing them. Now let’s see Tommy Thompson earn his inflated salary by restoring the names of Fredric March to the Memorial Union Theatre and Porter Butts to the Union art gallery.

Lesiak wants to prove he is as Woke as A.O.C. so let’s treat this as a teachable moment. Tommy T did not apply for the job. The Regents had dug themselves into a hole with a botched search for president. They turned to Tommy to restore some credibility to the system. He took the minimum allowable salary — roughly $50,000 less than his predecessor, Ray Cross. The maximum salary is $734,000. So he left $250,000 on the table. Some grifter! He named one Republican and one Democrat (Tom Loftus) to help in the transition. He hired (or promoted) three people? Out of 40,000 in the system? For that matter, TGT was already a millionaire before he took the job, having earned it in the private sector after leaving the governor’s office in 2001. He was elected by the people of Wisconsin to be their governor a record four times. (Something about democracy.) President George W. Bush wanted him to run his health department in Washington. But to a partisan like Lesiak, Thompson is only a “grifter.”

What make these folks different from folks who follow the rules and apply for legal immigration? The USA has always been accessible, (and the stats manifest it), to immigrants. Why does this group seek to displace all those who have been patient as they proceed thru LEGAL means to enter the USA ? If they attempted entry legally, no problem w/ out-of-the-ordinary vignettes like this. This editorial seems to encourage law-breakers and discourage true immigrants. Illegal immigrants are future Democratic voters, or at least the Progressives are hoping so.

Agreed, GS, we are a nation of immigrants who come from somewhere else. We should welcome people from all countries who want to uphold American ideals, provided they are here LEGALLY.

What’s happening now is unfair to them and us. We have immigration laws for good reasons. Subverting those laws to accommodate people for political purposes is anti-American.

Progressives are getting their open society, and at this rate we will no longer be an independent nation. What’s happening at the border is not sustainable and will likely change the fabric of this nation. Just as Progressives want. Remember, we have more than three years left of this.

You may get your wish. Another CNN pundit, Gloria Borger, and journalistic lion Bob Woodward, guesting on MSNBC Tuesday, both opined that Mr. Trump will run for President in the 2024 campaign.

Interesting tidbit in the Wednesday newscycle: George W. Bush will hold a fundraiser for Congresswoman Liz Cheney in October.

          Voice,

“Speaking as a moderate, would you support Liz Cheney if she were to enter the race, or Donald Trump?”

I think what you consider a moderate and I consider a moderate are different things. Trump protected our borders, focused on manufacturing jobs in the US, brokered Mid-East peace deals, made animal cruelty a federal crime, worked to combat human trafficking, created meaningful prison reform, accomplished energy independence. For me, these are moderate American values.

On one hand, Cheney is a reliable conservative. She voted yea on proposals like withholding federal funds from states that don’t follow immigration laws, and increasing criminal penalties for those here illegally.

But this is someone who, if we’re being honest, got elected largely because of her father’s networks, and she has always promoted her father’s wars. When Trump attacked our ongoing presence in Afghanistan (as well as decision to go to Iraq), she doubled down by working with Democrats to maintain presence there. This leads me to believe that her defiance of Trump has been politically motivated and not because of some sense of honor.

That Bush is hosting a fundraiser for her does little to instill confidence. This is someone who on 9/11 made a speech in which he equated Trump supporters with Jihadists. At a time when he should have been sowing unity, he used his pulpit to basically attack Trump, and by extension tens of millions of law-abiding Americans. So establishment.

So the answer to your question: I would support Trump over Cheney. Unless of course, I could be convinced that Cheney is the better choice.

Not that she has a chance, but if Tulsi Gabbard were to run against Cheney, I’d support Gabbard.

Fine, you don’t like Trump. You think he’s boorish. Got it. Really, we all get it by now.

And I will admit that it’s time to move on from Trump, because he’s a distraction at this point. I’ll rally around most any conservative for president, and if it comes down to it I’ll vote for Cheney over a Progressive (Gabbard is the only Dem I’d even consider). But if you think people want more establishment politics like that of the Cheneys and Bushes, you’re mistaken. We’re way past that.

Maybe if you can explain WHY we should rally around establishment politicians, I might even agree with some of your points.

“We can defend ourselves from attacks on our democracy from outside.”

Are you sure about that? Have you seen our southern border? Have you seen the Afghan vetting process that allowed an alleged wife beater and alleged child molester to enter our country? Have you seen that police departments, our first line of defense, are broken? Reports show that morale is down in our military, which has been penetrated by CRT and other leftist wokeness. They’re also not meeting their recruitment goals.
